Dear Parents

I find it hard to believe that many of the 2013 highlights on the school

calendar have come and gone.

The Derby Day was once again a great success. Thank you to all the

girls, parents and staff who contributed to make it a day to remember!

The Senior and Junior House plays were also performed during

Cultural Month and I am glad to report that the content andperformances were of a high standard. The plays were thoroughlyenjoyed by all.

Our girls also did their bit for Mandela week. Classes came up withwonderful ideas to spend one afternoon serving their community and as

we all know, many of these projects will take place on a regular basisfrom now on.

For the past few weeks, our grade 9 educators have been attendingCAPS Training Workshops. This caused lots of pressure for theremaining staff having to supervise substitution classes. I am, however,

proud to report that the learners have not been disadvantaged, as theschool has allocated extra classes to all grades during the grade 12 test

series.

We are also extremely thankful for the safe return of all our girls andstaff members from the Europe Tour.

ReportsReports that were not collected at the Derby Day have been sent homewith the learners this weekend.Please, parents, take time to think before reacting to a report result. Let

us try to make comments to build and not break down. Unfortunatelywe were not able to schedule our Parents Day any earlier. The reportmark will reflect the whole terms work: exams, tests, projects andmarks accumulated throughout the term.

Reading ProgrammeThe grade 8 & 9 learners also received a reading analysis reporttogether with their academic reports. This indicates their progress with

regards to their reading speed, word recognition and comprehension.

All learners in Grade 8 & 9 have English as well as Afrikaans readinglessons. The language educators use the results to determine their focusareas for the next terms teaching.

GHS Winter School - Grade 12

The winter school for our grade 12s was a great success. The girlslearnt a lot. I would like to thank the teachers for giving up their

holidays to teach the learners. It will be well worth the effort when theresults are received at the end of the year.

2014 Budget Approval MeetingThe proposed school and hostel budgets for 2013 will be presented to

parents by the SGB Finance Committee on the day on which boarders

return for the fourth term.

DATE: Monday 30 September 2013

This is your opportunity to raise your concerns to the Governing Body.It is imperative that all daygirl and boarder parents attend this

meeting. The finance office will be closed during this meeting. Parentsplease note that the 4th Term starts on Tuesday 1 October 2013.Boarders have to return on Monday 30 September this may be aninconvenience to the parents but the boarders can only return on the

Monday.Please indicate on the reply slip what time would be suitable to havethe Parent Budget Meeting on Monday 30 September.

Parents Day - Saturday 24 August: 08.00 to 13.00This day provides the opportunity for parents to meet with the subjectteachers in the hall. We urge all parents to come to discuss academicresults and concerns with their daughters subject teachers. Please trynot to miss this opportunity, especially if you have concerns regarding

your daughters academic progress.

Procedures for making appointments:

Your daughter will make 5 minute appointments for you with hersubject teachers.

On arrival on the Saturday your daughter will hand you theappointment list indicating times of appointments.

To ensure that all appointments are met, please arrive on time and donot exceed the 5 minute time allocation. Appointments may also be made with Miss Scholtz, Mrs Steyn &

Mrs van Sittert, the Counsellors, for advice on subject choices and

other concerns.

Parent Meetings in the Pavilion 24 AugustThere will also be meetings for the different grades in the Pavilion with

Mrs Meyer.

Grade 9 ParentsSubject Choice MeetingOn Parents Day there will also be a meeting with ALL the Grade 9parents regarding the grade 10 Subject Choice for 2014. The documentregarding the subject choice as well as Abilities Testing has been sent

home for you to discuss with your daughter.

The June Report together with the Ability Test results will help youto make an informed decision concerning your daughters finalsubject choice for Grade 10-12.Please bring all the documentsregarding subject choices to the meeting. Every point in thesedocuments will be discussed at our meeting and all questions will

be addressed.
