Intersection with 50th Ave:• ADA compliant curb and sidewalk on south-east side of intersection - provide continuous sidewalk network along the corridor. • Pedestrian refuge median with zebra style crosswalk across Beaverton Hillsdale Highway – Reduce vehicle speed and increase awareness of pedestrians as well as increase safety for pedestrians. Coincides with bus stop location.• Pedestrian crossing warning sign - increase awareness of pedestrians
Intersection with 56th Ave:• Signal Backplates* - to increase visibility distance and reduce rear-end collisions
Intersection with 59th Ave:• Pedestrian refuge median with zebra style crosswalk across Beaverton Hillsdale Highway – Reduce vehicle speed and increase awareness of pedestrians as well as increase safety for pedestrians. Coincides with bus stop locations on both sides of the highway.
Intersection with Shattuck Rd:• Signal Backplates* - to increase visibility distance and reduce rear-end and backing collisions• Advance stop lines along BHH* - to reduce backing and pedestrian collisions • Extended curb on northwest corner; modified right-turn access lane west of intersection.* By eliminating the right turn lane near the west side of the intersection, and changing the first driveway to be exit-only, right-of-way is made available to extend the curb sig-nificantly. Curb extension reduces the distance pedestrians must travel, potentially addressing 50% of the observed pedestrian crashes. • No right turn on red sign on southbound approach- to limit crashes from right turn movement• Pedestrian Leading Signals - to allow pedestrians a head start• Protected Left turn phasing - with installation of left turn lanes on Shattuck in N/S direction would reduce pedestrian collisions
Throughout the corridor:• Improved ADA curb ramps - with high visibility truncated dome plates and separate ramps for each crossing direction. Brings the intersections into ADA compliance, and provides increased pedestrian awareness to drivers. Also encourages correct use of cross-walks by pedestrians by making them easier to locate.
