Give more importance to MeritDramatic changes have happened in the last twenty-five years.
Changes have taken place economically socially, strategic de-mands, many other. Certainly the country has moved much fur-ther. Into a 2 trillion economy moving towards a five trillion econ-omy. Also a digitalized society is around the corner.
The draft National Education Policy was released by the gov-ernment recently. Existing education system is big victim of le-thargic and non committed execution of prescribed provisions.Need is to have high integrity in all processes at every level. Gov-ernance in education needs to be made merit driven and of highintegrity.
The policy advocates the closure of rural primary schools wherethere are about dozen students and one teacher, without appreci-ating the higher ratio of students and teachers. The school com-plex that the policy talks about is an Utopian idea, If it is executedthe small children of rural and the oppressed classes of the soci-ety will be deprived of education, as transport cost to the ‘com-plex-schools’ will be unbearable to the poor families. You cannotmake primary education world-class and it is not required also. The primary education is introductory in nature to create an apti-tude for learning further, which can be supplemented by ICT, at alesser cost. The government should not close down rural primaryschools creating a situation of illiteracy and ignorance in the de-prived communities. Instead, the school teachers must be usedfor counselling the uneducated rural folk and help them to reachout the government schemes to them through the advancement ofIT.
In the interior villages of India, where only a single teacher isposted in primary schools, the teacher doesn’t stay in that areaand doesn’t attend punctually every day. This aspect of teacher’sabsence and measures to prevent it are not covered in the drafteducation policy.
The policy makers have a closed mind, biased, in place of ex-ploring details in policy and changes it will bring vis a vis currentsystem. They are more interested in dividing entire process intowelfare of dalits and obc, a narrow mind. In India we have reachedto a level where we end up everything into a caste based system, rotten minds which need refreshers course first, otherwise verysoon they will take India back to medieval age.
In reality, education, is only for employment. Government doeswell to calculate global employment avenues. Budgetary alloca-tions might be initially enhanced adequately for education that mightbe recovered when the beneficiaries become earners. Even pri-vate educational enterprises might be involved because scholar-ships or educational loans could make way for poor but talentedstudents to study in them. While the real issue is life, we seem toinsist only on language.
The aim of the government in addition to facilitating elementa-ry education for every strata of the society should also to be ascer-tain the developments a merit based qualified people holding knowl-edge in their specific fields. India lacks a lot in this where thewhim to join a college depends on just to get through to a highgrossing job without basics of what it demands and the ability toget there is nullified by inappropriate reservations.
All are not created equal. Everyone is created unique. The dif-ferences are real readily verifiable. Over generalization to dealwith this inherent difference in the name of science and research(both are human mediated) is hazardous, however politically ex-pedient and ‘correct’. Challenge is to master the art of understand-ing these inherent differences and make everyone happy in blos-soming into self-assured, clear minded with big picture role play-ing mindset and capabilities.
Indian education need radical changes, presentation layer tobe improved. We only put them in school, only memorize and writeexams - not spend time for critical development of child.

By Abhitash D. Singh
Amyra Dastur is the modern daycity girl that one knows her to beand while that is who she is in reallife, it looks like she will takeit to the silver screen too asshe will be playing RajkumarRao’s urban newly marriedwife, in this humorous twist-ed thriller.
In order to make hercharacter even sweeter,Amyra will be essaying therole of a baker, baking cakesand other desserts in thefilm.
From the teasers andposters one can already seethe shades of grey in Kanga-na and Rajkumar’s charac-ters, therefore, Amyra’scharacter needed to be abreath of fresh air that bal-ances out this quirky ensem-ble cast.
What’s even more inter-esting is that Amyra learnthow to bake through herbrother who’s a professional chef inLondon. He flew down to Mumbai athis sister’s request and taught her
the intricacies and techniques of bak-ing. When we asked Amyra she said,“Honestly, I’m someone who finds itdifficult to switch on the stove lol!
My brother and Mom are thecooks in my family and Iwouldn’t try cooking for myworst enemy even. It wasquite funny when my young-er brother had to teach mehow to bake. It was definite-ly a task! You have to mea-sure every ingredient cor-rectly, learn how to whiskand mix batters technicallyto prevent lumps and airbubbles. I guess I also reallyrealised all the effort thatgoes into a simple Cupcakeor Cookie. It definitely wasn’teasy but I guess that’s thelife of an actor, always learn-ing new things one wouldnever learn otherwise. Ohand yes I can bake my ownbrownies now!”
After Mental Hai Kya re-leases on the 26th of July,
Amyra has another 3 Bollywoodfilms releasing in 2019 - Made inChina, Prasthanam & Koi Jaane Na.

Broad Blades OfBrathwaite
By C K Subramaniam
Slam bang cricketof West Indies is mostpopular for big hits.Their batsmanbelieve in hit out orget out policy. Andthat was revealed bythe broad blades ofBrathwaite (101) inthe match againstNew Zealand. WestIndies cricket washaving a strangleholdon World cricket inthe 1980s and theywere invincible sidein all the formats ofthe game. They wonthe first two worldcups in style andtheir sequence ofvictories was brokenby Team India in theyear 1983. Thathundred from CarlosBrathwaite mustrank as one of thegreat ODI hundreds.Got them within ahairsbreadth of astunning victory. Inthe end Braithwaiteshared a smile withBoult right there ashe was coming to
terms with his ownheartbreak. Impossi-ble not to rememberthe name. What aninnings, CarlosBrathwaite. Thegame of cricket isreally magnificent.
Brathwaite playedan innings of alifetime in the worldcup and almosthelped his side to winagainst Kiwi side andcause an upset in thistournament. Brath-waite, who has beenguilty of throwing itaway earlier, hasshown in this matchwhat sensible battingcan achieve but wasfalter to deceive in theend by a superlativecatch almost on theboundary line byTrent Boult. If youmissed seeing WI vNZ match then youmissed best match ofWorld Cup yet.Windies, down andout at 164-7 chasing291 falling just 5runs short, Braith-waite last man outcaught a foot or soinside the fence for asensational 101. Lastpair put on 41,Thomas 0. Greatgame of cricket, buttragedy struckWindies as the manin action got out. And
for all those whoslammed Windies T20approach for messingit up, it was preciselythat approach thatgot them so close. Itis a method whereeasy chases becomedifficult and near-impossible chasesbecome achievable.
In a big inningswith his broad bladesBrathwaite hit 101 of82 balls with 9 foursand 5 sixes in a wellphased innings. Hadhe hit the winningruns by clearing theboundary, then hewould have becomethe man of the matchon that day. The hitand run game ofcricket was played inthe right spirit andthat was clearlyreveals in CarlosBrathwaite’s biginnings. The shotselection, the runningbetween the wicketsand the big hits allsaw a West Indiesside revival but thatwas not to be as hewas held in the deepwhen victory wassmelt. New Zealandkept their calm toclinch a thrilling last-over win over WestIndies in ICC CWC2019. The scores:-New Zealand 291/8(50) West Indies 286(49) New Zealandbeat West Indies by 5runs. This was thematch of the Worldcup 2019 so far.

South Indians CelebratingStar Birthday
South Indians choose star birthday insteadof their birth date. Some of them celebratingtheir birthday in star of their birth. May besome of them conduct a pooja for the well beingand long life in that day and serve food andcloth to the poor persons. Hindu birthday cele-bration is exactly opposite to the western way.We light lamps, but in the West, candles areblown out. We also think it is inauspicious tohand a knife or anything sharp to the otherperson on the auspiciousstar birthday. So, lightinga lamp reminding the childof the true path to follow, prayers for enlightenmentand the importance of shin-ing like a lamp to the oth-ers.
Your birth star, or Jan-ma Nakshatra, is just onecomponent of the calendar. If you draw a line fromwhere you were born, at the time you were born,to the moon, the Janma Nakshatra is the starconstellation that the line would pass through. Each month has 27 Nakshatras, which meanssome Nakshatras will occur twice in a month. As with most aspects of Hinduism, there is norule as to what significance a star birthday has.
We Brahmins from South follow the lunarmonth in the south, and the star, and take theopportunity to remember and thank the starwhich is the guiding light for the person. Elab-orate vegetarian banquet is arranged, feedingthe poor and relatives, and serve food to thechild with a leaf kept perpendicular to the child, with the samkalpa that this is for Ganapathi. While the child eats, all the elders in the housecome and bless the child with Akshatha andflowers. Sweet gheer is prepared and everyoneprays to the light for the health and long life ofthe child. I just mentioned child, but this isdone as long as parent live to bless their chil-dren.
As per my experience, being as Hindu, Brah-min, I was taught to go to temple on the starbirthday morning and take the blessings of Godand elders by touching their feet. I was alsotaught to start the day at home by offeringsweets to God and lit the earthen lamp and touchparents and elders feet. Distributes sweets tothe poor people and celebrate the birthday feastwith family friends and relatives and stayblessed. In Hindu culture blowing a candle offbelieves to be inauspicious and we start our daywith lighting a earthen lamp not blowing it offis the Hindu culture for centuries.
We had once had a birthday celebration inmy native place with just Vishnu Sahasran-amam being recited along with Lalita Sahas-ranamam. The general way to celebrate birth-days is to actually distribute food to others andin certain cases even clothes and this is theHindu way of celebrating birthdays. Star birth-day celebrations is the South Indian way of cel-ebrating a birthday.

Girish Karnad was anactor par excellence
In the death of Girish Karnad on June 10,2019, our country has lost an actor par excel-
lence, activist and one of Indian theatres finestpersonality.
Girish Karnad was an award-winning film-maker who was bestowed the Jnanpith awardapart from the Padma Shri and Padma Bhush-an. He was a friend, philosopher and guide formany apart from being humble to the needy. Hefought for liberal values as he spoke passionatelyon subjects and causes dear to him. He was one ofthe best actors in Hindi cinema. The emptinesscreated by his death will be difficult to fill. Noother actor could play the kind of roles he playedin films. I’ve seen most of his films and I likedhis acting very much.

Pros and cons of‘1 nation, 1 poll’ issue
The common man goes with the tide. Whatev-er the government imposes he will bend. Whychange the time tested arrangement. It is all aparadox, saving money and all. The citizens haveto bear the expenditure anyway. It is all imagina-tion. Priority to common mans’ needs are impor-tant. All other things can wait. Where is drink-ing water. Think of connecting rivers. More wa-ter is flowing into fruitless talks only.
Moral of the story is that idea of simultaneouspolls is a non feasible one. I am also of the opinionthat it is not a workable idea from the democraticpoint of view. Everything must not be seen fromthe economic prism as it is wrong. There can bemany other options to enforce cost cuttings or sav-ings or austerity.
Popular will of general public is surely in favourof one nation - one poll. It is only the politicians, who are in regional and minority parties doingprotest for their own existence and crying wolfand making excuses like “federalism” “constitu-tion” etc. I think Government of the day is justi-fied in heeding to the popular views of public andgo ahead with this proposal if it can push throughdemocratically using whenever they gain majori-ty in both houses. Money and time can be savedfrom other unnecessary projects. The foundationof our constitution should not be shaken. And prob-ably reducing the number of days to 1 or 2 days ofpolling, can be done instead of holding it for morethan a month. It will only cause greater confu-sion and money can be saved from many otherunnecessary programmes and projects. Electionsare the foundations of our constitution and thereis no point in breaking it down.
It would be best if we think of the expenditureincurred by parties in the recent past elections. In a country where most of the people are unawareof education the thought of one nation one elec-tion is not a cup of tea to them. Let us strive for afree, justifiable and ideological democracy to betaken place by any means for a brighter India.
One nation one election is good idea to reducethe cost of election and people will give more im-portance to the election. Save time and money, aswell as Political speeches against divisive Parties. One clear vote in each State and the Nation, canwork better. Till 1967 in almost all states Con-gress was the ruling party. So the electorate fundit easy to elect its representatives. Now caste andlanguage are new factors which mostly are influ-encing the voters adversely. Simultaneous elec-tions are beneficial no doubt but it may be diffi-cult to implement in this fouled environment.
Seems a noble idea on paper. But rather thanconcentrating on these type of issues, whichneeds a detailed examination and once it goeshaywire for any reasons the whole system wouldbe in doldrums. Analysis and evaluations neednot bring in a clear picture prior to its imple-mentations. It is likely that there could be lotsof merits. But in the worst possibility, the gov-ernment encounters an irreparable damagewhich could be attributed to ransacking of de-mocracy getting things revere to its originalform would be hazardous. GST and all can befine tuned in the course of time. But these re-forms are not that similar and it will reflect ir-reparable damages to the existing fabric of dem-ocratic system. So better the government con-centrate on more burning issues like unemploy-ment and agriculture. The nation faces burn-ing problems and instead of opening a Pandorabox at this moment let us concentrate only de-velopment. Once such issues are resolved peo-ple can’t feel skeptical and time would be ripemove on.
The proposal, if adopted, would have the fol-lowing consequence: this will be a blow to de-mocracy and federalism. More deeply, the found-ing pact of the Indian Union is based on federal-ism. It is the choice of the founding fathers ofthe Union. Of course, the Constitution of theUnion can evolve because a constitution is not afixed text for eternity. But what seems to beemerging through the announced project is thequestioning of the founding pact that can leadto the destruction of the Union. It becomes morethan necessary to have in mind what was saidseventy years ago, on November 25, 1949, byB.R. Ambedkar at the India’s Constituent As-sembly for the last time. It is important to re-read this speech and especially to make it knownto younger generations.

It’s time for oppositionto grow up
How issue less the opposition is can be judgedby the topics they highlight. A small change inthe colour of Team India’s Jersey makes themscream at the top of their voices but change inthe social fabric doesn’t even pull their atten-tion to it. Tabrez’s death doesn’t make them hitthe streets in protest but a small amount of saf-fron in Team India’s Jersey makes them go mad.
Come on grow up you brain drained lot, ifyou keep raking such issues, you will becomeextinct by next general elections. Already youare in the most endangered species category. Sothink, plan and then open your mouth. Other-wise remain meaningless, listless bunch of peo-ple whose words don’t carry any weight or im-portance.

BMC should take anote of this
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) must first evacuate the hawkers fromthe streets of Mumbai and it’s suburbs and thenstart widening up the roads. They cannot takeaway land and houses and pull down crosses byforce that belong to the East Indian Catholiccommunity who are the original people of Mum-bai. Grabbing land of East Indians is entirelywrong and against the law of the land.
