Greetings from EDI!
It's with a feeling of great pride that I present my students before you. We initiated this programme with immense confidence in the power of entrepreneurial skills in a person's life and career. Our students have come to acknowledge the clout of an entrepreneurial bent of mind after these two years of rigorous academic schedule. I am glad that the students have learnt all aspects of entrepreneurial management and have mastered the strategies that help one catch the pulse of the market and the customers. The trained students possess the right attitude, knowledge and skills.
There isn't an iota of uncertainty among students about their strengths and capability which I believe is the foremost trait of a winning personality. They trust their planning and strategizing skills to take on the unpredictable business world and have developed unique entrepreneurial creativity and management skills to take the organization that they work for, to the peak.
The students have undergone courses including; Entrepreneurship, Organization Management, Business Policy and Strategy, Marketing, Business Opportunity and Project Formulation, and Economics and Finance.
I am glad to present this batch of entrepreneurial – managers who think ahead and work with unbelievable resolve and commitment. I invite corporates to give them an opportunity to exhibit their abilities and proficiency.
- Dr. Dinesh Awasthi
Director’s Message

The Post Graduate Diploma in Management - Business Entrepreneurship is a course which is
contemporary in terms of the coverage of its curriculum. This 'futuristic course', as I would
like to put it, imparts specialized traits and knowledge to its students and grooms them in a
way to take up the role of intra-preneurs or entrepreneurial managers. For any organisation to
flourish, it is important that its employees nurture an entrepreneurial attitude towards work.
The students of this course possess the right kind of skills, attitude and knowledge to make
meaningful contribution to the organisation that they work for. Exploring and exploiting business opportunities, developing and using networks, taking
initiatives and calculated risks so as to achieve a goal are the niche areas of these passing out
students. Their skills will immensely benefit the organization that they work for.
On the part of the student, I can see a distinct enthusiasm to prove themselves. They are
determined to make a difference to the organisation that they work for by becoming result-
oriented professionals. We invite corporates to give them an opportunity to showcase their unique skills.
- Dr. Sunil Shukla

About EDI, AhmedabadThe Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), an autonomous and not-for-profit

To pursue its mission further, EDI has helped set up twelve state-level exclusive entrepreneurship

Commission had also assigned EDI the task of developing curriculum on entrepreneurship. EDI
also has established linkages with a nationwide network of organizations and institutions
committed to education in entrepreneurship development. Recently, EDI was mandated with
the task of setting up the National Policy for Entrepreneurship, by the Government of India.
In consonance with the mission EDI also aims at facilitating corporate excellence through
creating entrepreneurial managers, known as intra-preneurs. The students from EDI,
Ahmedabad possess goods intrapreneurial skills to work effectively and efficiently in corporate
houses.
EDI's success led by its strong sense of commitment culminated in recognition of its
achievements by the Government of India and various state governments. In the international
arena, efforts to develop entrepreneurship by way of sharing resources and organizing training
programmes, have helped the EDI earn accolades and support from the World Bank,
Commonwealth Secretariat, UNIDO, ILO, FNSt, British Council, Ford Foundation, European

The institute's basic strategy to realize its mission has been to concentrate on some broad areas to
achieve its objectives. The areas so selected have to satisfy the twin criteria of social relevance
and the institute's capability.
6
EDI has earned great deal of national and international recognition for its pioneering work as

participant driven case-analysis which foster analytical and problem solving skills. Apart from
the classroom, learning happens at EDI Ahmedabad, by panel discussions, forums, week-end
projects, guest lectures and continuous interactions with the successful entrepreneurs so that the
students are well-prepared to take on the challenges that the dynamic global business
environment today provides.
Summer Internship
At the end of the first year, students are exposed to applied aspects of managing an enterprise
through Summer Internship Placements. A Placement Cell has been set up by the Institute to
facilitate the interaction between students and the industry. Students will be placed in Small and
Medium Enterprises (SMEs), as per their specialization / area of interest, for a period of 8-10
weeks after completion of the first year.
Student Activities
Co-curricular Activities
Workshops, Guest Lectures, Industrial Visits, Live Projects
Discussion on latest developments through workshops, seminars, guest lectures and industrial
visits complement the class room learning. Every year students organize seminars on a subject of
topical interest. Students work on live projects to get first-hand experience in different
enterprises on various current topics. Industrial visits are regularly arranged for students with a
view to enhance their knowledge and exposure towards the practical side of the industry. As such,
these company visits remain dialogue-driven events, allowing the students to discuss ideas and
viewpoints that are directly related to their needs and interests.
Extracurricular Activities
The institute offers its students a wide range of high-quality sports and cultural activities which
enhances and completes the student's academic
experience. Students are involved in many
extracurricular activities and organize cultural
and sports events regularly. They also participate
in industry seminars and exhibitions.
Cultural Activities
EDI organize many cultural activities throughout
the year as a part of recreational activity for
students and staff members. Students actively
participate in these activities like Navratri,
Independence Day, Ganesh Chaturthi, Cultural
Night, etc.
14
Sports Activities
Students of EDI organized many indoor and outdoor sports activities. During the sports week,
students participated in the games like carom, table-tennis, dart, arm-wrestling, cricket,
badminton, volleyball, khokho, kabbadi. Students of both the years organized Volleyball Premier
League and Cricket Premier League. The entire
arrangement was like IPL where students appointed
managers, players were auctioned, etc. Thus such
experience can help in all round development of the
students.
E-zine – 'EDIcted'
'EDIcted' is a student initiative to provide a platform for
the expression of creativity, knowledge sharing and
networking. It is an E-zine with circulation of around
three thousand mainly to the students, alumna, other
educational institutions and various organizations like
GCCI. The unique factor about 'EDIcted' is that it is
completely based on entrepreneurship, probably only
student magazine exclusively on entrepreneurship! It
covers entrepreneurial interaction conducted at EDI,
live interview with EDI alumna and other industry
experts, student corner covering poetry, articles, quizzes
and other interesting content. The editorial team has
received very positive feedback for this initiative from all.
Social Service
EDI aims at being an institution which trains creative, problem solving individuals, who are
capable of leading people in the rapidly changing world and who observe human values as well as
contribute to social development. It seeks to inspire, empower and enable students to create
social value and connect them with individuals and organizations tackling critical social issues.
EDI-Yuva Changemakers were actively involved in 'English Unstoppable' activity along with
corporate leaders from Vodafone, Adani Wilmar, HDFC Bank, HDFC Standard Life Insurance,
Vadilal, Azure, Motif, Evosys, Troikaa, Reliance Communication and Times of India in offering th'English Language' course to the less privileged 6th & 7 grade students from Government
schools in Gujarat which in turn help them increasing their communication skill and boost self-
confidence. EDI has won the 'Kindest College' award, competing 18 colleges nationwide. EDI
students along with Prathma Blood Centre organized a blood donation camp where not only post
graduate students but also faculty members, administrative staff and students of EDI
international programme participated.
15
International Interaction
EDI Ahmedabad in collaboration with universities like
YUFE (Yunnan University of Finance and Economics),
Kunming Institute of Science and Technology, YUNAN
University and a few other universities in Dubai and UK,
is designing international exchange programmes for its
students. Recently an exchange programme between
students of EDI and YUFE took place in June 2012. Soon
we expect more interactions and student exchange
activities from more universities across the globe. YUFE is
a wide spread campus and built across 100 acres of land with spectacular infrastructure. The
multi-disciplinary university has about 10,000 students pursuing their studies in various fields.
During the exchange programme that took place over two weeks a vigorous interaction took
place between students of EDI and YUFE. Students got to attend classes on subjects like China's
history, geography and politics, Sino-India relations, trade and economic issues between the two
nations and a language module where students got a chance to learn their language. The visit
proved fruitful as many budding entrepreneurs from EDI now have a Chinese counterpart to help
them build a similar successful enterprise here. Apart from lectures our students got to
understand, explore and enjoy the rich Chinese culture. Visiting their wholesale markets was a
rich learning experience in itself. A mall with around 50,000 shops is running successfully in this
part of China. Hence, China is not only a strong manufacturer but it also is a huge consumer
market.
Student Achievements & Participation
Alumni Association
The EDI alumni association, which is rich in diversity in
the form of its each member representing different
cultures & geography, education & social background,
managing businesses in different sectors from
manufacturing to services and not-for-profit enterprises.
The members apart from acknowledging and celebrating
their differences harness the commonality to gain and
offer benefits to each member they interact with. Total
alumni have strength of about 900 number spread across
different regions and EDIAA is steadily adding more
members with each passing event and activity The Alumni, who are the ambassadors of the
Institute, share their experiences to the students regularly through various programme.

been the most inspirational as well as important years of my life. I got the
opportunity to interact with many diverse personalities who shared their
experiences and imparted on hand industry knowledge.
The best part about EDI was that there was always a helping hand available.
The faculty as well as administrative staff were cooperative and had a very
helpful attitude.
