Powering our community…

Energizing the future

Canada has the potential to produce up to

20% of its electrical needs from wind.

Wind is Energy

Rising demand, power shortages, increasing

prices, electrical blackouts – this is the new

energy situation in Ontario, a province many

thought was blessed with abundant energy

sources. Without a fundamental change in how

we approach energy, Ontarians face the very

real possibility that our increased electricity

needs will be supplied from imported power or

from local coal-fired and nuclear generation.

Fortunately, there is an alternative available:

an abundant source of clean, renewable energy

literally blowing in the wind.

Wind energy is a positive and eco-friendly

way to improve our environment. The Golden

Horseshoe suffers from some of the worst air

quality in Ontario, caused in part by the gen-

eration of electricity from fossil fuels. Poor

air quality negatively affects both our health

and quality of life. Unlike coal, wind energy

does not produce greenhouse gases or other

harmful by-products that contribute to poor

air quality. Wind energy is clean, efficient and

produces no pollution.

Positive Power Co-op wants to bring wind gen-

eration to the Hamilton, Halton and Haldimand

communities to improve our local environment.

Renewable energy co-ops

are a rapidly growing part

of the co-op sector.

Co-ops are Community

Co-operatives work in communities all over

Ontario in nearly every sector imaginable,

including agriculture, housing, financial and

child care. In fact, 2.3 million Ontarians belong

to over 1,900 co-ops, credit unions and caisses

populaires throughout the province. Co-ops

in Ontario represent at least $19 billion in

combined assets and employ thousands of

dedicated workers who care about their

business and community.

In fact, the co-operative business model has

proven to be more effective and successful

than other business structures. Formed by its

members to meet a specific need, co-ops are

well-managed businesses that have a social or

environmental mandate as well as financial

goals.

Positive Power Co-op has three bottom lines

by which it measures success: environmental,

social and economic.

25% of Denmark’s wind generation

comes from community based projects.

Investment Makes Change

In communities all over Europe, wind energy

is a large component of the energy supply.

Germany, Denmark and Spain are leading the

way in wind energy installations, due in large

part to the work of community co-ops and

farmers. In fact, one third of all wind energy

produced in Germany comes from local associa-

tions of farmers and landowners. Community

owned and supported wind power has led

to wide spread installation of wind turbines

throughout Europe, and although off to a

slower start in Ontario, we are on the way.

Similar to the turbine installed on the Toronto

waterfront (co-owned by the WindShare Co-op

and Toronto Hydro), Positive Power Co-op envi-

sions many smaller community-owned turbine

installations throughout the province.

Positive Power Co-op is committed to creating

community-owned wind projects throughout

Hamilton, Haldimand and Halton.

Our community has the skills and

resources to make this happen.

Positive Power Co-op leads the way

Wind energy projects like our Lake Erie develop-

ment involve careful project research, detailed

financial planning and strong community support.

Ready for the major and minor milestones required

for wind development, Positive Power Co-op has

secured land rights, measured wind speeds for

over a year and developed detailed financial plans

as part of our overall business plan.

Throughout its history, Positive Power Co-op

has partnered with other community leaders to

build a strong business case for our projects. Our

organizational and project successes have come

from a commitment to implementing our mission

and vision, while making decisions based on our

values and needs of the community.

Positive Power Co-op, through the support of

our community, is committed to putting ‘wings

in the sky’.

You Can Make It Happen

Local investors can bring a renewable energy

project to our community by purchasing one

(or both) of two different Positive Power Co-op

bonds. Member bonds (Series A) can be pur-

chased in increments of $500 with a Positive

Power Co-op membership. Investors can also

purchase bonds in increments of $5,000 (Series

B) which are available to both co-op members

and the community at large. Both bonds have

five-year terms with an annual interest payment

of 6.5% for Series A and 6.0% for Series B.

This bond offer is available immediately, but

the time for purchase is limited. Contact

Positive Power Co-op for a copy of our invest-

ment offering package which contains more

details about the projects and the bonds. We

would also be happy to arrange a presentation

with your community group or let you know

when our next information session will be held.

Positive Power Co-op is a not-for-profit, locally-

owned co-operative dedicated to generating

clean sustainable energy.

Investing in wind is good for your future

and your wallet.
