Mundya fez o seu lançamento oficial na
Africa do Sul, usando a plataforma Login
PT que agrega empresas de TI
maioritariamente portuguesas. São mais
de 100 empresas associadas, presentes
em mais de 100 países, algumas pioneiras
na implementação de projetos
inovadores e diferenciadores ao nível
mundial. Entre eles estão o Multibanco
(caixa automática de rede nacional
interbancária), a Via Verde, cartões pré-
pagos para telemóveis e sistemas
inovadores de localização por GPS.

On the 5th November, Mundya has made
its official launch in South Africa, using the
platform of Login PT of ANETIE composed
mainly of Portuguese IT companies.
LoginPT has more than 100 associated
companies established in more than 100
countries. Some of those companies were
responsible for pioneering worldwide
projects such as the Multibanco
(ATM/POS) - a nationwide network
banking services, Via Verde (automated
highway toll system), prepaid mobile
phone cards and innovative GPS software.
The Future Pavilion brings together some
of the most innovative and impactful
technological solutions, created by
Portuguese companies, that are shaping
the future. An aggregator atmosphere of
distinctive creations designed and
developed to present you a technology-
centered Portugal, showing you some of
the tools that will accompany us
tomorrow.
In order to promote the industry and to
present Portugal as a technology supplier
of excellence, Login>PT designed a road
show for 2014-2015 that will take the
Future Pavilion to four continents of the
world.

No dia 28 de Outubro a Embaixada da Itália organizou a habitual reunião mensal da Delegação da UE com todos os Conselheiros Económicos e Comerciais das Embaixadas da UE. A reunião iniciou-se com a apresentação do novo Chefe da Seção Económica e Comercial da Delegação da EU, Sr. Massimo De Luca e os principais assuntos discutidos foram as manchas negras nos citrinos provenientes da África do Sul, o discurso do Sr. Nhlanhla Nene sobre a revisão intercalar do orçamento e as reuniões da Câmara de Comércio da UE com o Department of Trade & Industry e Home affairs sobre fatores que influenciam os negócios das empresas da UE: nomeadamente o novo regulamento da imigração, BEE, e o Acordo de Proteção e Promoção do Investimento.
On the 28th of October the Italian Embassy organized the monthly meeting of the EU Delegation to South Africa with all Economic & Trade Counsellors of EU Embassies. This business meeting started with the introduction of the new Head of the Economic & Trade Section of the EU Delegation, Mr. Massimo De Luca and the main issues discussed were Citrus Black Spot found in South African citrus, the Mid-term Budget Speech of Mr. Nhlanhla Nene and the meetings of EU-SA Business Links with Department of Trade and Industry and Home affairs regarding factors that impact the businesses of EU companies namely new immigration law, BEE, Investment Promotion and Protection bill.

this market to Portuguese

consolidate their presence in
Southern Africa, the current

realidade dos negócios da
comunidade Portuguesa como
também IDPE e as estratégias que
AICEP tem vindo adotar neste
mercado que contribuiu para
aumento das relações
económicas e comerciais
bilaterais.

Para superar os desafios atuais
como o aumento de consumo de
eletricidade, alterações climáticas e
garantir um desenvolvimento
económico sustentável, o governo
sul-africano reconhece a
necessidade de reduzir a
dependência em combustíveis
fósseis e procurar energias mais
sustentáveis e acessível. De acordo
ao Plano de Recursos integrados
2010-2030 o mix de geração
elétrica deverá ser 48% carvão,
6,5% hídrica, 14,5% outras
energias renováveis, 13,4%
nuclear e 11% gás. De acordo com
a estratégia governamental para
energias renováveis há boas
oportunidades para energia solar
e eólica como também o sector da
construção.
No dia 22 de Outubro o Ministro das Finanças, Sr.
Nhlanhla Nene, apresentou a revisão intercalar
do orçamento de 2014, reduzindo as
expectativas de crescimento económico da
África do Sul (estimado 1.4% este ano em
comparação a 2.7% previsto em Fevereiro)
devido ao abrandamento das economias a
nível global e obstáculos nacionais
nomeadamente constrangimentos
energéticos, instabilidade laboral. Como
resultado do lento crescimento económico, o
governo depara-se com um défice orçamental
de 4.1% resultando na necessidade da
consolidação das Finanças Públicas através do
aumento de taxas, redução de despesas
públicas ( salários públicos)e a privatização de
“bens não essenciais” para o suporte da Eskom.
Contudo a Tesouro Nacional projetou um
crescimento de 3% para os próximos 3 anos.
On the 22nd
of October the Minister of
Finance, Mr. Nhlanhla Nene,
presented 2014 Mid-term budget
Policy Statement, downgrading South
African economic growth (estimated
to be1.4% this year in comparison to
the 2.7% predicted in February) due
the slowdown of global economies
and national challenges namely
energy constraints, labour market
instability. As a result of slow growth,
the government is facing a budget
deficit of 4.1% resulting the need of
consolidation of public finances by
increase of taxes, reduction of
government expenditure (e.g public-
sector wage) and the privatization of
“non-essential goods” in order to
support Eskom. However the Treasury
projects a growth of 3% for the
following 3 years.
According to the Economist Mr.
Mike Schussler this uncertain and
reduced power supply will likely
affect SA’s economic growth
(dragging it down from the 1.4%
to 1%) and also have a negative
impact in South Africa’s credit
rating. To address the current
challenges of growing electricity
consumption, climate change and
ensure sustainable economic
development South African
government recognizes the need
to reduce reliance on fossil fuels
(short-term solution) and look for
more sustainable and affordable
energy. According to Integrated
Resource Plan (IRP) 2010-30 South
Africa’s energy generation mix
should be 48% coal, 6.5% hydro;
14.5% other renewable energies,
13.4% nuclear and 11% gas. There
is good opportunities for
renewable energies, the
government renewable strategy
set targets mainly wind, solar. This
will also spark construction sector
with mega projects.

cortes de energia e a forçada redução
do uso de eletricidade para fins
industriais (ex: ArcelorMittal SA, BHP
Billiton). De acordo ao economista
Mike Schusser este incerto e reduzido
fornecimento de energia irá
provavelmente afetar o crescimento
económico (reduzindo de 1.4% para
1%) e também irá ter um impacto
negativo no rating da África do Sul
nas agências de notação de crédito.

The successful reception of
the Portuguese Incoming
Business Delegation led by
Portugal’s Deputy Minister
for Economy, Mr. Pedro
Gonçalves, in August lead to
a future visit of the Premier
of the Gauteng, Mr. David
Makhura, to Portugal. In the
private meeting between
both authorities, Mr. David
Makhura showed interest in
organizing with the Prime
Minister for Commerce a
business mission to Portugal.
In September Mr. Pedro
Gonçalves sent a official
invitation to Mr. David
Makhura and it is expected
that this visit will happen
very soon and that it will
bring a strong South African
business component
accompanied by GGDA
(Gauteng Growth
Development Agency).
The Regional Secretary for
Environment of the Regional
Government of Madeira, Mr. Manuel
Correia, wrote to the Economic and
Commercial Counsellor of Embassy
of Portugal, thanking for the
opportunity of the meeting that was
arranged with Gauteng Growth and
Development Agency (GGDA)
during his visit to South Africa. The
CEO of GGDA, Mr. Siphiwe
Ngwenya, was present in this
meeting and was discussed the
support models that have been
applied to businesses in South Africa
that really pleased the senior official
of the Regional Government of
Madeira.

Setembro, Dr. Pedro
Gonçalves enviou um convite
oficial para Dr. David Makhura
e esta visita irá acontecer em
breve. Espera-se que esta
missão irá trazer uma forte
componente empresarial sul-
africana acompanhada pela
Gauteng Growth
Development Agency.

No passado dia 15 de Outubro S.

Dr. António Ricoca Freire, e o Sr.
Conselheiro Económico e
Comercial da Embaixada e Director
da AICEP, Dr. João Pedro Pereira,
visitaram uma das maiores
empresas de eletrónica da África
do Sul (Mantech), detida pelo Sr.
Eng. Manuel Moutinho em parceira
com uma das maiores referências
asiáticas neste sector de atividade,
e gerida por este empresário de
origem portuguesa. Nesta reunião
foram debatidas as possibilidades
de incrementar o relacionamento
com Portugal, neste sector da
eletrónica, nomeadamente na
importação de alguns produtos,
bem como, a evolução deste sector
neste país que está numa fase de
concentração empresarial, sendo
que a Mantech tem, pela via das
aquisições vindo a ganhar uma,
cada vez, mais relevante quota de
mercado. Foram também
articulados os apoios que a
Embaixada de Portugal e a AICEP
podem prestar na expansão desta
empresa, nomeadamente através o
M.o.U. que Portugal mantém com
a província do Gauteng e que é
dirigido ao apoio conjunto às
empresas. Após a reunião foi
realizada uma visita guiada às
instalações, ondem trabalham
alguns e algumas portuguesas.

On the 15th of October the
Ambassador of Portugal, Mr.
António Ricoca Freire, and the
Economic and Commercial
Counsellor of Embassy of Portugal,
Mr. João Pedro Pereira, visited one
of the largest electronic
companies of South Africa, held
by Mr. Manuel Moutinho in
partnership with one of the
largest Asian references in this
business sector. Mantech is
managed by this entrepreneur of
Portuguese origin. In this meeting
was discussed the possibilities of
extending the relationship with
Portugal in the electronic sector,
namely in the imports of some
products as well as in the
evolution of the sector in this
market which is currently in the
phase of business concentration.
Despite of that, Mantech has been
increasing market share through
acquisitions. It was also articulated
the support that the Embassy of
Portugal and AICEP may offer in
the expansion projects of this
company through the M.o.U,
which Portugal has signed with
the Province of Gauteng, with the
objective to support business
operations. After this meeting, a
guided visit was carried out at
Mantech premises where some
Portuguese work.

Adis Abeba começou a implementar em 2012 o
plano de 10 anos para fazer da cidade com mais
rápido ritmo de desenvolvimento mais verde e limpa.
Atual tem o novo sistema ferroviário movido por
eletricidade e por implementar tecnologias para
medir emissões de gases de efeito de estufa,
restrições a importação de carros de 2a mão para
subsistuir por tecnologias mais amigas do ambiente.
O Primeiro Ministro da Etiópia mencionou na Cimeira
da ONU sobre o clima em Nova Iorque o aumento da
geração de energia a partir de fontes renováveis de
2,268MW para 10,000MW até próximo ano.

the new light rail system powered by electricity and
still to implement technologies to measure
greenhouse gas emissions and imports restrictions of
2nd hand vehicles to replace with new
environmentally friendly. The Ethiopian Prime-
Minister said in the UN Climate Summit in NY the
power generation from renewable sources will
increase from 2,268 MW to 10,000MW by next year.

anual da NEPAD. Este jantar também teve a
presença de altos oficiais do Governo, corpo
diplomático e empresas. A Presidente da União
Africana, Dr. Dlamini Zuma, apresentou a Agenda
2063 que é um quadro estratégico para o
desenvolvimento de África. Foram apontadas a
necessidade de modernizar o sector da Agricultura,
de melhores mecanismos financeiros que apõem o
empreendedorismo/PME (mulheres e jovens) nesse
sector; investir não só no ensino básico mas
também superior (matemáticas, ciências,
engenharias; investir em infraestruturas
estratégicas para o desenvolvimento e o comércio

AICEP/ The Economic and Commercial
Department of the Embassy of Portugal was
present in the annual dinner of NEPAD. There
were also present high level Government
officials, Diplomatic Corp and companies. The
Chairperson of African Union, Dr. Dlamini Zuma,
presented the Agenda 2063, which is African
Strategic Framework for African Development.
Was pointed out the need for: agriculture sector
modernization as well as better financing
mechanism to boost entrepreneurship/SME
(women and youth) in this sector; investing not
only in basic education but higher education;
investing in infrastructures strategic for
development and intra-trade (transports, ICT and

A publicação dos resultados do
inquérito sobre a força de trabalho
realizado pelo Statistic SA indicou
que a taxa de desemprego caiu
0.1% no terceiro trimestre, sendo
atualmente 25.4%. O CEO do
Mercantile Bank, Dr. Karl Kumbier,
comentou que essa percentagem
pode ser ainda mais reduzida
através de politicas relacionadas ao
desenvolvimento de competências
especialmente no sector da
construção (que é um dos sectores
que mais cria postos de trabalho e
que beneficia do desenvolvimento
infraestruturas governamentais). Sr.
Karl Kumbier também referiu que os
empresários deram um grande
contributo a essa melhoria apesar
da situação económica. Portanto é
importante apoia-los criando
condições legislativas que facilitem
os seus negócios logo a criação de
emprego.
South Africa has been
downgraded in the raking of
World Bank’s Ease of doing
Business 2015, falling from 37th
to 43rd place out of 189 mainly
due the reforms that South Africa
has implemented in terms of
getting credit. Furthermore, S&P
has downgraded South Africa to
BBB rating. According to
Nedbank Group economist Ms.
Nicky Weimar these downgrades
will imply higher borrowing costs
for government investment in
infrastructure projects as well as
to entities and major private-
sector companies.
The release of labour force
survey results conducted by
Statistic SA indicated that
unemployment rate has fell 0.1%
in 3rd quarter, being currently
25.4%. Mercantile Bank CEO, Mr.
Karl Kumbier, commented that
this percentage can be further
reduced by policies towards skills
development, especially in
construction sector (which is one
of the sectors that more creates
jobs and benefits from
government infrastructure
development). Mr. Karl Kumbier
also mentioned that
entrepreneurs have made
significant contribution to this
change despite of economic
environment. Therefore it is
important to support them by
creating a legislative
environment that makes it easy
for them to build successful
businesses and create jobs.
