Case History• Money raised at a school fundraising Back-2-School Carnival, held at Wilson High

School on Saturday, August 19th has been stolen from the school office vault.• At the conclusion of the event on Saturday, proceeds from the fund raiser were placed in

the school office vault to hold for the school bookkeeper for Monday. *• When school office staff opened up Monday, August 21, 2006, an office secretary

discovered that the money had been stolen from the vault. There was no evidence of a forced entry.

• The school principal stated that his computer, which contained information regarding the security system, surveillance cameras and the vault had been breached.

• The School Resource Officer stated that he had overheard a man and a woman talking at the crime scene around 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, but did not think anything of it, because “lots of people from the Information Technology Department had been all over the building throughout the day.”

• Investigators have recovered a set of fingerprints, a footprint and a coded email. • Twelve employees from the Information Technology Department were working on

technical projects and professional development at the school on that date. Six technical personnel were divided evenly between the MCPS and Refresh Projects. Six instructional personnel were divided between the New Gradebook program training and a MovieMaker Workshop.

*Note: this practice is not consistent with actual school procedures and is for educational purposes only.
