TIQUATIRA EM CONSTRUÇÃOPublic spaceFinal Graduation Project / Escola da Cidade CollegeSão Paulo | Brazil | 2012Author: Julieta Fialho and Andréa Helou
The study area, the neighborhood of Tiquatira, is located in the Eastern Zone, outskirts of Sao Paulo city, and like most of the city, immensely lacks pub-lic spaces and leisure. Rather than break down the wall that separated the street from a soccer field, the purpose was to take advantage of it adding a new character. The wall was used as a support for street furniture such as benches, bleachers, bins, lockers for foot-ball players, bike racks, planters and lamps. The project arose from the people living in that com-munity. Therefore, in addition to building interven-tion in the wall, an event was held for inauguration with football, bands, food, workshops, play time with the kids, etc. What was once a threshold, a residual and dead space was reframed and turned into a living place - to socialize and exchange experiences.

VERBO DIVINO INSTITUTEInstitutionalExternal area interventionSão Paulo | BraZil | 2013Author: Julieta Fialho and Andréa Helou
The project is an intervention in the outer area of Verbo Divino Institute. A Daycare located in Campo Limpo neighborhood, in São Paulo. The money came through the NGO United Way Brazil, which conducts the training of teachers of kindergar-ten. Playground toys were inappropriate for the age group of children who are 0-3 years. The design needed to adapt these toys and make the space more playful and attractive. So a course was created with colored plastic material, which connected existing toys to an “interactive wall”. The wall, which was once just a limit on the ground, became a place where children can stimulate cre-ativity through a chalkboard, fitting blocks, a wall of Lego, musical instruments, one hanger shaped like a tree and even a small planter.

“PALLETMOB”Urban InterventionConstruction of Furniture at Amadeu Decome SquareSão Paulo | Brazil | 2013Team: Muda Collective and Boa Praça Movement
This project was organized by Muda Collective, a group of students from Escola da Cidade College, in partnership with Boa Praça Movement. The goal was to create new living spaces in the Amadeu De-come Square in São Paulo city. Also the idea of the project is to change the perception and apparopri-ation of people in public spaces in the city. The “PALLETMOB” is a temporary furniture set made of reusable palletes with different heights and shapes that allow various types of appropriation in the space. The intervention took place over a weekend on Sat-urday the securities were built, and a picnic on Sun-day with the opening of the local community was conducted.
“BOLHA IMOBILIÁRIA” - (Housing bubble)Urban InterventionConstruction of an air ballon São Paulo | Brazil | 2013Team: Muda Collective and Basurama Brazil
The construction of the ballon was executed by Muda Collective, a group of students from Escola da Cidade College, in partnership with Basurama Brazil, in São Paulo city. The ballon was built using recycle plastic from Glicério Recycling Organization, and placed on Costa e Silva Overpass. The area was closed for car traffic, in order to free the area for people to par-ticipate on the event “Preliminares”, which was a movement to discuss public space and it use with the real state blooming scenery worldwide.
CONTEST: INTERMODAL PASSANGER STATION1st. PlaceIV CBCA Contest |ILAFA of steel projects for Architec-ture Students Santos | Brazil | 2013 Team: Julieta Fialho, Andréa Helou, Izabel Barboni, Natália Coachman and Renata Lovro.
The idea of the project is to create a station - park, which creates quality public spaces, and revitalize the harbor area of Santos city, cost area of São Paulo. The design of intermodal passenger station, connects the different means of transportation: LRT ( light rail), bus, car and bicycle. Flows are organized by levels. The basement houses the parking lot. The LRT comes from the underground of the city and rises to 5 feet over the ground on the area of the project. The idea is to leave the ground floor level for cyclists and pedes-trians, creating a large living and recreation space. In addition, it does not interrupt the existing traffic flow, preventing the station to become an urban barrier. On both sides of the building, still on the ground floor level, there are also bus stations . In one side urban buses, and on the other side intercity buses. To connect these different levels we came up with the idea of “waves”. A versatile and fluid structure that works as floor and as cover. So pedestrians can use the structure of the station to go up and see the city , the sea and the horizon .

CONTEST: UNDER OVERPASSNational Contest of Architectural Projects for Urban Requalification of Under OverpassesBelo Horizonte|Minas Gerais| Brazil | 2014 Author: Julieta Fialho and Andréa Helou
1. OVERPASSES - The overpass structures are strictly de-signed for cars. Aim to ensure the car flow - above all. These structures cut through the urban ways and generate waste and dark spaces.2 . CONNECTION - The Avenue Lobo Silva crosses un-der the overpass, and fragments its two sides. To con-nect them and prioritize pedestrians, one level cross-ing transposes the street level creating a zone of low speed vehicles continuing the pedestrian sidewalk.3 . THE SKY IS THE LIMIT - What was once the bottom side of a road for cars shall be heaven for those who pass under it. This painting is meant to transform the limited space by bringing lightness to the massive ex-isting concrete and making the space more playful.4 . IN SEARCH OF LIGHT - The separation of the two upper tracks viaduct creates a flash of light that illu-minates the bottom area. Along the projection of that tear, plants grow in vertical tubes, bringing some green for the scenery, and creating an unusual construction for cars passing on the avenue on the overpass.5 . USE - Through a very basic structure, horizontal planes and vertical lines provide infrastructure and spaces of permanence. These ‘’ clouds ‘’ composite metal pipe and cement slabs create lightweight and easy to fit into the existing structure platforms. Light, energy, water, bleachers, tables, benches , bath-rooms, bike racks , skate park , swings . All this ensures the possibility of multiple uses bringing life to the site - both day and night. What once generated shadow now starts emitting light.

RE URBANIZATION OF CAVALO BRANCO SLUMSocial Housing Project by Estúdio Vertical, Escola da Cidade Col-legeSão Paulo| Brazil | 2011Team: Julieta Fialho, Julio Tarragó, Natália Coach-man and Natássia Figueiredo.
The chosen study area was Cavalo Branco Slum, lo-cated near Guarapiranga Dam, in São Paulo city. The goal of project was the reallocation of the fam-ilies living in risk areas to new social housing projects development by the students. The idea of the project was to create three floor buildings, with three difference floor plans. One main aspect was to keep the existing building characteristics. For that each apartment unit was positioned in a different plan, creating open patios besides generating an interesting movement on the facade.

COBOGÓ STOOLFurnitureSão Paulo| Brazil | 2013Author: Julieta Fialho and Andréa Helou
The Cobogó Stool was designed for an institute that shelters and provides after-school activities for poor children, in the East Zone of São Paulo city. The existing building’s rooms, lacked natural ventila-tion and illumination, which created unhealthy envi-rionment conditions inside the classrooms.Instead of using a conventional window, the Co-bogó Stool has double purpose. When placed into the wall, it allows natural illumination and ventila-tion. When removed can be used as a stool.
