Hello Ponytellers and welcome to a new issue of the numbah one maga-

zine in all of teamliquid.net. When working for a theme for this issue, dis-

ciple came up with winter. When it comes to thinking about the seasons

Its kind of odd living in the southern hemisphere in this aspect. Let me

give you some insight.

Right now, everyone in the US is talking about the snowstorms. That makes

for 40% of teamliquids population (I made that number up but its prob-

ably pretty close). While you guys talk about snow on the roads and no

school, it never snowed where I live, and just three days ago we had 40C

and 90%+ humidity. So its kind of hard for me to get in the mood for the

whole winter thing.

Luckily, as always, I have disciple working with me, who lives in the north.

This month we had Lip working with us too (from the north too!). He has

been a great addition to Pony Tales as you can see, making the artwork you

see in this edition, as well as the comic for the Caption Contest.

As always, funsies, bans and the things you are used to, but hopefully, bet-

ter.

The Sports & Games section isgrowing more every day.

Even though Teamliquid is a Starcrat site, as time

passes by we nd people making threads on oth-

er games to play with TL users. This could be or a

variety o reasons. Maybe people just want a ca-

sual game when they get tired o Starcrat. There

are also those who watch Starcrat games live,

but rarely play themselves. O course, maybe TLusers just eel at home playing with others rom

the site. Whatever it may be, these other games

are a lot o un. I experienced my air share with

Travian back in the day and more recently League

o Legends.

This month I saw a thread about a game called

Haven & Hearth.

The game basically plays out like this: you start

o a hobo in the middle o nowhere and you arebasically as skilled as a worm. You begin checking

your surroundings and doing basic things, such

as lighting a re or building a place to sleep. As

you do this, you gain points to spend on stats or

skills which unlock more interactions with your

surroundings. The game has no goal. Meaning

you can go and play it a la Minecrat or you can,

you know, organize yoursel with some ellows

and go kill people. I you are interested in play-

ing, you should read the two threads available(here and here) and try to contact ellow TLers

so you dont start like me, in the middle o the

woods alone and drowning because you thought

you could swim when you barely started playing.

In Maa, one o the hardest roles to play is the

serial killer.

The town gets to be with the crowd, the maa getshis scum buddies, but the serial killer is all by him-

sel. In act, no serial killer has won a game o TL Ma-

a.

As serial killer, you have a great survival role. You

cant be killed at night, so as long as you are not

lynched, you win! O course, surviving is harder than

it sounds. Lurk too much, and the town will proba-

bly kill you, thinking that youre maa. Be too active,

and the maa will hit you. Sure, theyll ail, but then

they will try to get you lynched.

A great way to do this is to stay below the radar by

making a ew good posts with new analysis. This

way, when someone tries to analyze you, theyll get

nothing. But at the same time, you are able to shy

away rom attention so people arent really con-

cerned with analyzing you or killing you. Staying in

the limelight is a great way to be killed, so be the

random townie thats too araid to vote dierently

than everyone else.

Hit List: Who to Use Your Night Kills On

Detectives - These people can expose your role and

make your lie really hard. Its a good idea to try to

take these out beore they can investigate you.

Maa

I you kill too much o the town, you might just lose

the game i the maa takes over. Hit a ew maa,

and the town wont be so concerned with trying togure out who you are.

Emergency! Youve Been ound!

Dont worry; its not the end o the world. You can

still win. Just convince the town that youll help

them win. In Maa XXXIV, ater being recognized,

the serial killer claimed his role to the town and tried

to help them kill some maa. I you somehow get

the game down to one townie, one maa, and your-

sel, you win!

Its Sunday, 4 o clock in the aternoon, and Im just

waking up. In an hour the national ootball team willbe playing against Argentina, all my riends are gather-

ing in dierent houses or pubs just to watch the game. I

get several invitations but I respond to none. I go down

the stairs to eat my breakast, my sleep scheduled is

denitely messed up.

I turn on the TV, where the newscasters are talking about someminers getting trapped inside a mine in the north, I quicklychange the channel, is the eleventh time in the week they havereported the same story. I go to the PC and quickly log on toteamliquid to read the post game interviews. Sadly its the same

as usual, Thanks to my coach and partners who helped me prac-tice says the winner. Oh, how I miss Savior.I live in a country where sport is synonymous with ootball, ten-nis barely appears in the news and others like basketball, rugby,boxing or hockey are simply not considered worth it. When Iwas young I wanted to play ice hockey like the Anaheim MightyDucks or escape rom a dog like the guy rom The Sandlot. Weeven discussed some o the play o the Little Giants with myriends. Wrong country, I suppose.It didnt get any better when I discovered Broodwar. those dildo-like sticks. And Im sitting here, 22.000 kms o oceanbetween me and the Coex Mall. Wrong country, denitely.But I I have it hard? What about the others? I have to stay awaketill 8 am to watch the games but I still have broadband andteamliquid. Maybe theres a young monk trying to load the 2005pimpest plays rom a crappy wi in Tibet. looking or some irony here) it wasnt till 2 years ago, while ran-domly looking trough videos in youtube that I truly discoveredBroodwar.The game was Tempest vs Light on Byzantium II, it started withtwo cheesy marines and it ended with the most badass dragoonin the history o progaming: 32 kills. Why would I want to use aWC3 hero when in Broodwar I could make every single unit one?

Ater that I discovered Teamliquid and the rest grew exponen-tially. I started showing BW to my riends and visiting the pak-gamers and wcck orums to nd others like me, I stopped goingto play Cricket and threw a couple o LAN parties even.Lunch time is over and the ace match just nished, SKT1 won,cant ask or a better dessert, i PayPal recognized my country Idnow be wearing the red T1 shirt to celebrate, cant complain toomuch though, at least I dont have to try to stay awake to watchthe games.I shut the PC and leave my house to hang out with my riends,a pleasure I probably wont have in a couple o years. Most othem (either by their own will or encouraged by their parents)are thinking o leaving the country. Once I graduate, Ill probablydepart too. By the 5th editionI won 2nd place and decided to start actively participating inthe organization. We began a team league while throwing smallevents like race wars. We have a mail list and regular weekly andmonthly meetings to organize the various events in a scene thatkeeps on growing and attracts new players every day.Today we have people in charge o the tournament, the promo-tion and the production o the nal event. The group stage isdone online and last 2 months while the nals and 3rd place aredone ater a month o preparation in ront o a live audience. The

2010 Red Bull Havana Star League nals were nothing short oamazing.Guevara once said, the true revolutionary is guided by great eel-ings o love. Well, this is our revolution, guided by a burning pas-sion that hasnt diminished in 8 years, and while our revolutionmay not be televised, rest assured that it will be live.

Whats even better, I nallycould read Jump in the top 5 o the thai ladder.I wanted to do more than just compete though, the BW scenewas slowly dying here and while there were still some lonely anscheering or their heroes ghting in the MSL and OSL the battleto preserve starcrat was pretty much lost. I we want SC2 to en-dure, we needed to be active about it.Starcrat 2 gave us chance to keep the scene alive, new play-ers were coming and the old ones that had let the game weretaking it back up again. Sadly internet connections here arentas massive and the internet cas dont have powerul enoughcomputers or people to try SC2, which may end up turning SC2away rom the masses and into a niche game or the elite whocan run it.The government isnt too helpul either, while in Korea they pro-mote gaming, here they see it more as some kind o drug thatcorrupts the youth. I want to change that. I decided to ghtagainst these perceptions by helping the community grow by

moderating the orums and organizing tournaments.But we still have hope though; while Dota and FPS are more pop-ular with gamers, they are old now and SC2 still has a lot o uturein it. I wish Blizzard would pay more attention to our community;ater all, Thailand is pretty cheap so they can aord to take bigrisks. They can organize a GSL or hal the price!We are taking small but constant steps so that one day, when allthat government obstacles are gone, a real pro scene can de-velop, and maybe Ill also be there playing, Mothership rushinglike Kiwikaki , but even i Im not playing, thaicybergames will bethere, waiting.

Epilogue

Tonight is the Proleague and no riend would stay and

drink with me until the game starts, there are no beers,

no nachos or popcorn. Only me and the screen fashing

while I eat the dinner letovers and drink rom a coke

with hardly any gas let.

But at least I know Im not alone, tonight is Proleague

night and I join the others, those hidden expos o an-
