Link to URL of MP3or M4a on web page to listen Create XML file RSS2.0 feed with enclosures-
(Feedburner online or Feeder $29.99) Link to URL of XML file on web page Submit podcast to directories Visitors subscribe through iTunes, directors or web
page links
PreProduction Preproduction takes at least 3/4 of production
time Develop format - host, topics and segments? Need a creative, catchy title Research, write and rehearse scripts Students develop a podcasting voice Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse! Have students listen to sample podcast Who is audience - students, parents, etc. Length should not be long 8 to 10 minutes
Recording External mic better than built -in Recommend Logitec noise filtering headset Set sound preferences of system to recognize
external mic Best app is GarageBand on MAC or Audacity
on PC Can also use browser based app or iPod with
mic GarageBand is nonlinear but easiest to record
in order of script Record short pieces less chance for mistakes Leave space for intro, outro and bumpers
Speaking Mistakes Talking too fast Honor periods Drop off end of words Popping p’s Puking – using a fake voice Ware mic practically next to eyes Eating the mic too close Touching the mic Enunciate clearly Speaking a normal volume – speak to friend Prepare and practice Record in short portions and then put together Reduce the background noise Smile while reading
PostProduction Edit clips Eliminate pauses and interruptions Add intro, outro and bumpers Use loops from GarageBand Audacity needs to download podcast safe
music Adjust music tracks for ducking When perfect send to iTunes and convert it
to MP3 Place MP3 on web server
Publishing Podcasts Once you created your audio program and uploaded it
to a web server, make links to it on a web page or blog . Your final step is to create an RSS feed which converts your audio files into a bone fide podcast.
