Preparing this article has been especially dif- ficult. There is so much I want to say and there is not room for it all. One thought continually crosses my mind is, what a privilege it is to have been your minister. You are, and I know you will continue to be, a “beloved com- munity.” We have learned from each other and done our best to search for the truth in love, believing that “there is always more light and truth to break forth from God’s word.” When I came to this church seven years ago, in addition to the inspira- tion of the John Wesley church facil- ity, another symbol of this community captured my imagination. It is the pas- sion for ministry that lives within the people of this congregation. John Wes- ley church has always reminded me of the parable of the sower (Mark 4: 1 – 9). It has always been a favorite of mine because I am convinced that its teach- ing is relevant to this church, and in its continued ministry; and relevant to your individual day to day living. In telling this story, Jesus was say- ing something like this, “I have come to sow God’s good news among you so that the love of God and neighbor will continue to increase, I have brought the seed and it is good seed. You, my followers, are also to be sowers of this good seed. It is your job, along with me to scatter this seed as widely as possible.” This is a parable of failure and suc- cess. Some of the seed will germinate and grow and some will go to waste, but this does not mean you are to stop sowing. We do not stop loving people because some of our love is not accept- ed and could theoretically be wasted. Can love ever be completely wasted? This parable applies to the living min- istry of this congregation, and that means all of us; employed staff, volun- teers and members who are the sow- ers of the soil. This parable reminds us that success and failure will be a part of everything you do. No failure is fatal and no success is final. No one is successful 100% of the time. Things do not have to be perfect to be good. I believe in our time together, we have experienced more successes than fail- ures. As I begin to transition on to my new appointment as the District Su- perintendent of the Connecticut-South Western Massachusetts district and the new pastor is transitioning into John Wesley, my prayer for you is that you will continue to grow in Grace. My final Sunday with you is on June 22, 2014, and I am calling it “Get Your Can to Church Sunday!” I am asking each person to bring a can of food with them that day, which will be donated to the Falmouth Service Center. On behalf of the Calhoun family, I leave you with these words from Wil- liam Shakespeare, “I can no other an- swer make, but thanks and thanks and ever thanks!” God bless you all, we will miss you! Many thanks, to the men and women who rose to the thes-pian tradition we have nur-

tured here in our wonderful church community. What a great way to work out some of our shyness and fear of public speaking, than by performing for those we know and love. A special thank you, to Betty Smith, our talent-ed Worship Chairperson, for her work in making the production of “WHOSE CROSS IS IT, ANYWAY”, a success. I look forward to future presentations and hope that you will think about a way to personally grow by working, (better said, ‘playing’) at a role with which you are comfortable. There are so many places to use your talents, experience, or training within our church. And if there is something you feel called to try your hand at, men-tion it to the Minister, or a Committee Chair person, or the church secretary and as the saying goes, “you will be glad you did”. But, please, don’t be shy, feel inadequate, or fearful – you ARE the church, we ARE the church.

Very much looking forward to working beside you as we become dis-ciples of Jesus and one step at a time,

grow our talents for God’s glory.Jeanne AmaralIgniting Ministries Chair

Here’s wHat’s going on witH tHe Missions coM-Mittee.

You have probably noticed the food drive going on at JWUMC for the month of March. We THANK YOU for all of your donations. Our plan is to restart the food drive, “Food on the Fourth”. If you have the capability/tal-ent to build a food collection box with castors (bigger than the current bas-ket), please contact Donna Fish.

Thank you for all of your contribu-tions to the Falmouth Service Center for the collections of coats, sheets, etc. organized by Bonnie Valade.

Another donation that you may want to consider is the shelter for bat-tered women. The Cape Cod Women’s Shelter provides sanctuary to battered women and their children. We provide funds and donations. You can put any donations in the large wooden box in the fellowship hall which are collect-ed on the last Thursday of the month.

Thank you, in advance, for anything you can contribute. For more informa-tion, check their web site: http://www.capecodshelter.org.

We made quarterly donations to the Upper Cape Chaplaincy, the Cape Cod Women’s Shelter, Catie’s Closet, Mercy Missions, and Smile Train.

The committee will beginning plans for the upcoming summer spaghet-ti dinner. If you can help, call Donna Fish. If you’d like to make a donation for the spaghetti, see Betty Bailey or Nancy Leger. We will be promoting it in the racers’ brochures, posters, and a newspaper article. Donations, after costs, will be going to Heroes in Tran-sition.

We received a thank you from Da-vid for the donation to his discretion-ary fund.

We received a thank you from the Friends of Fairwinds

I want to thank you for our gener-ous gifts. We value your support, and we want you to know that your funds

will be used wisely to ensure con-tinued success of the Clubhouse and its mission to further the recovery of adults who suffer from psychological disabilities on the Upper Cape

God, Our Father

The greatest Father of them allIs He, Who helps whene'er we fall.

If we but pray, He lifts us up,And takes from us the bitter cup.

Relieves us from darkest despair,He is our Father, He does care.

So, when our troubles seem too much,Reach out to Him and He will touch

Our very being with His love.We are so blessed by God, above.

The Holy spirit dwells within. With faith in Him, we’ll always win.

This life lasts just a little while.Let us walk with God every mile.

Betty Bailey and Eileen Rice have recently asked to step down from Altar Guild duties for

health reasons. It is preferable to have two members scheduled to serve each week. Current members are reviewing and updating the Altar Guild Hand-book and look forward to welcoming new members. If serving on the Altar Guild is something you might want to try, please speak to me or an Altar Guild member (Karen Briggs, Pat Din-smore, Linda Duane, Sharon Mulcahy or Patsie Tsarides).

Thanks! Betty Smith, Worship Chair

Welcome Pastor Rebecca Mincieli

I grew up in Indiana and graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in Busi-ness. I then moved to the New York City metro

area where I worked in sales and marketing for In-ternational Playtex. I met my husband, John, and we moved to Cape Cod in 1985, where we owned and ran a restaurant in Hyannis called Up the Creek. Eventually, we started a food products company, Olde Cape Cod Foods, and distributed our products (salad dressings, soups, condiments, and crackers) to supermarkets and local stores. In 2000, I received my Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton, and became the Assistant Pastor at South Yarmouth

United Methodist Church. For the past 10 years I have been the Senior Pastor at the Northside Unit-ed Methodist Church. I have two children and two grandchildren, and enjoy golfing, walking, kayaking, tennis and being outside. My faith in God has been important to me since childhood, and I always knew I wanted to serve God, and share the love of Christ with others. I deeply love the Lord, and I can honest-ly say I walk out the door every day saying, “I love my job!” I am very excited to be a part of the John Wes-ley family, and I look forward to sharing our Christian journey together. See you soon!
