PMI and Agile: The Evolution of Agile in the PM CommunityPresentation Abstract:

With the continuing growth and use of Agile practices in project management, many practitioners have added Agile to their “Project Management Toolbox” and use it as one of many techniques in managing successful projects. Moreover, organizations that utilize project management to serve both internal and external clients are seeing value in Agile methods to deliver projects for these clients more quickly. This session will provide an overview of Agile and how it is used in industry. It will also describe the resources available from PMI for Agile, including the qualifications and knowledge required for practitioners to pursue the new PMI Agile certification (PMI-ACP). The session will also describe how PMI utilizes Agile to improve processes that provide value to PMI members.

This month, PMI-Chicagoland chapter celebrates 35 years of facilitating education, personal growth, and profes-sional progress for thousands of area project management professionals.

The Chicagoland chapter was chartered in 1977, and from modest beginnings when all club members would meet at a couple of tables in a nearby restaurant, the chapter has grown to 4,000-members plus throughout Chicago metropolitan area. Today, PMI-Chicagoland is the 6th largest chapter in the world (as of December 2011) and one of the most active chapters in the Project Management Institute (PMI).

The PMI-Chicagoland chapter provides members an oppor-tunity to network with other Project Management profession-als and practitioners, in a diverse range of industries through-outtheChicagometropolitanarea.Throughthechapter’smany events, programs and partnerships, Project Managers can benefit by sharing project experiences, best practices, effective project management techniques and tools, and valu-able lessons learned.

Sinceitsfoundingin1969,theProjectManagementInstitute (PMI) continues to be vital and forward thinking – focused on the needs of project management professionals worldwide. An acknowledged pioneer in the field, PMI repre-sents a global community with a family of members and certi-fied individuals numbering over 600,000 in 188 countries.

PMI professionals come from virtually every major indus-try including, aerospace, automotive, business management, construction, engineering, financial services, information technology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and telecommu-nications. PMI establishes project management standards, provides seminars, educational programs and professional certification that more and more organizations desire for their project leaders.

Throughout the next year, PMI-Chicagoland members can expect events, programs and partnerships that will mark the 35th anniversary of the chapter and continue the spirit of sharing and learning among Chicagoland project management professionals.

The CQAA was established in 1984 to promote IT quality principles and practices within Chicago-area companies. CQAA is the second oldest and largest chapter within the global QAI chapter community. Currently CQAA has more than 1,600 active members and 5,800 contacts which it keeps informed regarding trends in the software quality and testing profession.

CQAA strives to meet the needs and interests of its members by sponsoring education and networking events. It hosts up to 10 educational events each year, along with “Lunch & Learns” and webinar trainings. Technology Update

PMI Chicagoland Chapter Migrated to a New WebsiteBy Arnab Dan, PMP, VP Technology

ThefirstphaseofPMI-Chicagoland’snewchapterwebsitewascompletedonFebruary12,2012bythechapter’stechnologyteam. The new system will provide an improved website experi-ence to members, potential members and chapter sponsors. Hereiswhatthehomepagelookslike:

some stand-out features of the new website include:

• SupportofvideotechnologieslikeyouTube,socialmediaintegration and rotating banner ads,

• Consolidationofeventregistration,newsletterandemailbroadcasts - under one technology platform,

• Moreaccurateandconcisereportinganddataanalysis.

As a result of this transition, chapter members will need to create a new password to access members-only information within the site, and to register for any events. An email has been sent to members with their login information. To create a new password, please complete the following steps:

1. Go to http://www.pmi-chicagoland.org

2. Under the navigation bar, you will see a username and password field.

3. When prompted, enter your username, followed by your PMI Member ID number as a temporary password. You can find your Member ID number on your PMI membership card or by logging into PMI.org and selecting My Profile.

4. You will be asked to create a new password (the new password must be at least seven characters long and contain both letters and numbers).

Non-members will also need to create a username and password,inordertoregisterforanyevents.Oneofthe improved features on this new site is the ability to recover login credentials more quickly, without needing to wait for a chapter volunteertoresetyourlogincredentials.Shouldyouhave difficulty or questions about this login process, please email PMI Chicagoland’swebsiteteamatwebteam@pmi-chicagoland.org. Chapter Leadership (2011 - 2012)

The Leadership Team consists of two groups. There is an elected Executive Board made up of the President, Past President and Vice Presidents. The primary function of this board is to set the strategic plan for the chapter and to oversee the execution of that plan by the Directors and their volunteers. The Directors are appointed by the Executive Board and are responsible for the execution of the strategic plan through the tactical day to day operation of the chapter. The Directors coordinate the efforts of chapter member volunteers to accomplish the activities of the chapter.
