Madiba DayThe ANC in the region did not sit on their backside on Madiba Day. A large group

gathered next to Mmuthlane Clinic near Moroke for a clean-up camppaign.

All structures of the organisation and a lliance partners were present, and

together with residents of the area the cleaned up the area a round the clinic.

ANC Member of parliament, Talitha Boshego, traditional leaders and business

people from the area were aslso present and together with their ANC hosts tackled

their 67 minutes with fervour.

They worked before the speeches. After all the rbuu sh was sta cked in a neat

heap against a fence, the party continued with its party political business of the day.

More than five hundred elderly men a nd women gather ed at Leeuwfontein Old Age

home to celebrated Nelson Mandela Day on Su nday, 18 J uly.

The celebration was accompanied by 67 minutes of work led by the Executive Mayor

of Sekhukhune District Municipality Cllr Mogobo David Magaba.

The District Municipality has chosen to plaster a nd paint the house th at cares for

more than fifty elderly from Leewfontein Township which is situa ted in Ephra im

Mogale Municipality outside Marble Hall. As part of the build up t o the main event

during the 67 minutes of service, hundreds of youths from th e township cleaned t he

streets.

Mayor Maga be, who was accompanied by Ma yor Lionel Seloan e of Elias Mots oaledi

Municipality, Mayor Yvonne Mma kola of Eph ra im Mogale Municipality, kgosi Boleu

Rammupu du III and hundr eds of councillors, honoured th e call to work for 67 minut es.During the m ini cake cutting function before the actual business of the day,

Executive Mayor Magabe hailed Tata Madiba as a true h ero Rolihlala Mandela is t oday

celebrated the whole world. As the District Municipality, we applause the decision by

the United Na tions Organisations to declare this day a n Inter national Day. And we

have called you, our Golden Boys and Girls, our beloved grannies and elders, to

celebrate with us. Like Mandela did, and still does, we hope that you will show us the

way going into th e futu re of our beloved South Africa.

Magabe added th at In Sekhukhun e District Municipality, we are going to work at

the house of our elders, we will again give them groceries, blankets and love.

The day was concluded with a career exhibition. The exhibition focused on learners

from the two Secondary Schools in Leeuwfontein. The day ended with style as everybody

shared t he large cake which was made available.

Home Based Care and SAPS Woman Cluster on behalf of

ECM.

Both these organisations have organised structures within

which they distribute blankets to families who are in n eed.

On Madiba Day, the 18 th of Ju ly, Itereleng han ded over th e

blankets to community members residing in Makgemeng.

The day had more tha n one purpose. The

people leading and representing the

commu nity could see h ow well equipped

and t rained their fire fighters are an d on

what a portion of the budget is being

spend. They had a tast e of what a ll the

aspects of the job entails. From fighting

real fires, learning about fitness and

training, absailling from the tower and

handling the best of equipment such as

the jaws of life. They were also trained in

how to react when a fire in their may

commu nities occur.

in an office or hometo fighting with

hoses connected tothe fire engine werewhat the groupexperienced.They had great fun,but by halfway

through the morning

admitted that thereis more to being afire fighter thanmeets the eye.

Sekukhune District last week received their brand new fire

engines. Three of them wer e delivered. One will be sta tioned at

the GTM fire stat ion while the others will be in Groblersdal.

It came last week and can discharge up to 3 800 litres of water

per minu te, explained Fire Ch ief, Amon Sikhosana. This fire

engine is equipped with all the n ecessary tools needed in an

emergency. It can a lso carr y six fire fighters were t he previous

tru ck could only carry thr ee. The old one will still do duty and can

even be used as a back-up tank er for th e new one by connecting

them with h oses. The fire engines ea ch cost R3.4 million. The one

that was originally ordered for Jane Furse will now be stationed at

Groblersdal and will do duty when the oth ers ar e being serviced or

when th ere is a big fire. The sta tion also received equipment

worth about R3 million.

Healers to

fight crime

Traditional healers in the Leboeng area between Echo Caves and Strydom Tunnel

gath ered at Leboeng Police Stat ion on Wednesda y under t he au spices of the Police to

discuss with the authorities how they can fight crime.

The meeting was also attended by the Department of Health. The Police explained that

traditional healers get into contact with criminals regularly, believing that the healers

can protect them from the Police when they are on the run, either by giving them somemedicine or even reques ting a ritu al bath to make t hem invisibile to the Police. The

Police said th e main a im of the meet ing was to explore ways an d mean s to improve

communication with the traditional healers so the crime can be eradicated from the area.

Traditional leaders also attended the meeting with t he healers, and Khoshi Malapo

addressed them, together with th eir own leaders, the Department of Health and th e

Police. The healers ar e not only dependent on their own means, but as explained by

them, th ey have regular ciontact with health a uthorities and also undergo training with

regards t o health car e. The stat ion comman der of Leboeng Polce Station, captain

Solomon Moholane said that everybody in the community should stand together against

crime, and appr oaching the tra ditional healers wa s only one of the avenues t o explore a

more united front against crime.

Tubatse Police were invited to attend the church service in Praktiseer on 19 July2010 at about 19:00. Lieutenant Colonel Mahlaola and Capt Nemaitoni attended.

Shaft portal excavation. This follows short

While the open cast is intended merely as

Shaft is intended t o replace South 1 Sha ft

trekking sal plaa s vind op die 31ste Julie 2010 met

die pr ysuitdeling.

biltong, boskarre en sn uisterye wat die dam es

Die kinders gaan weer heerlik vermaak en bederf

Op Ohrigstad verkoop die Op-en-Wakker Groep vir bejaardes hou elke laaste Vrydag van die

maand pannekoek- en vetkoekverkope by die Pure Plaas stalletjie. Hulle hou ook vandag

padstalverkope, so moenie hulle heerlike kos en tuisgebak misloop nie. Al die geld wat

hulle in die eerste deel van die jaar ingesamel het, het gegaan vir liefdadigheid. Nou werk

die bejaardes om geld in te samel vir hul toer na die Kaap later vanjaar.

Wildevy 4x4 Dag

Die Wildevy 4x4 Dag vind oor twee weke op 31 Julie plaas. Slegs 120 voertuie word op die

baan toegelaat. Besprekings kan reeds gedoen word. Plek is beperk en voertuie sal op n

eerste bespreek en betaal basis voorkeur kry. Die dag sal weer heerlik vir die hele

familie wees. Daar sal stalletjies wees, heerlike kos en hope pret by die verskillende

punte. Daar sal weer n wa en trekker tussen die punte ry sodat besoekers wat nie

deelneem nie, kan gaan kyk wat vang die bestuurders en hul spanne by die verskillende

uitdagings aan. Daar sal verskeie kompetisies wees. Die jaarlikse hoogtepunt, die

sogenaamde show stopper, sal om 16:00 plaasvind. Hierdie item is waar n uitgesoekte

groep voertuie n modderbad deurkruis.

Winter Festival

The Winter Festival at Winterveld on 24 July promises to be an experience not to be

missed. The event will boast live entertainment by Jakkie Louw, William Blackrose and

Jaco Labuschagne. There will be a pot jiekos competition and a soap box derby.

The Mr & Miss Winter Festival will also take place. A first for the area will be the ice

rink that will be erected for the festival. This is definitely not to be missed. Bring the

whole family and come and enjoy the day at Winterveld Club.

Entrance will be R20 per person. Stalls, food and entertainment for everyone. The day

starts early and will go on until late the evening.

Work can be fun

Seen cleaning on the beat of music on Mandela day ...

Samancor, Eastern Chrome Mines (ECM) took the initiative to arrange a day packed

with fun and games for the whole family. Everyone living in or around Steelpoort, or

who will be passing through for the weekend, is invited to this fun packed day. The

Festival will commence at 09:00 in the morning at the Winterveld Club.

There will be plenty of fun for the kids. Amongst others, the kids entertainment

includes an ice rink, gyroscope, a ferriswheel, a train, an obstamat, face painting and a

fufi-slide. Boys and girls ages 3 to 18 can participate in the Mr & Miss Winter

Festival.

The Potjiekos competition seems to be the biggest hit of them all . We already have

more than 30 teams that are taking part. By looking at the names of the teams, we

expect some great fun. To name but a few: Tyre Corp, Caribbean Teasers, Boeretroos,

Everest, Inbreeds, Bosveld Klong, Kaalgat Klonkies, Elektro Diesel, Sanlam, Olmec

Tribe and High-Tech. The teams will not only be judged on their food, but also their

decor.

To inspire a bit of creativity and probably the birth of a few engineering candidates

for the company, we are also introducing the Soap Box Derby. Herewith a few of the

team names: Ama-Cheeta Cheeta, Olmeca2, Ama-Krok-Kro, Flash, Energade, Old

Chevys and Hi-Tech.

By looking at these names, it seems the heat is rising! We encourage all the mines

and businesses in the area to enter teams. Anyone interested can contact Christo

The festival will also be packed with stalls. Products and services that will be sold

include: food, drinks, ice cream, cake, pan cakes, arts & crafts, t-shirts, tupperware,

books, wooden doors, body piercing, jewellery, educational toys and many more.

Last, but not the least, are life performances by Jakkie Louw, William Blackrose and

Jaco Labuschagne. This Winter Festival will heat up the blood in your veins. It is not

to be missed! Entrance fee for the day will be R20 per person, this includes the live

Doorndra ai dam. The competing 5 anglers were pa rt of 87 anglers at the competition. Due to th e cold weather

only 4 fish were caught in 3 days.

gaan speel. Zebediela is n klein klub m et pra gtige bane en n baie

ywerige afrigtiger wat die klub se ak tiwiteite dryf.

Wintreveld Dames B wen naelskraap met 22-20.

Bennie Wheeler was die dag se skeidsregt er. Winterveld se spelr

van die da g was Anne-Marie Deyzel. Sy is n lyn verdediger en het

puik balbesit omgekeer en hard gewerk.

Die Dames B het t wee ander sp elers gebruik om die span voltallig

te maa k omdat twee van die spanlede nie die wedstryd kon speel

nie. Zandria Wheeler en Zelna Wheeler het as onderskeidelik kant

verdediger en kant doel uitgehelp.Die spanne speel Sat erdag by die Waterval CVO bane op die R37.

Dit sal waarskynlik die laaste tuiswedstryde wees. Hulle vra almal
