    2 PROMOTION 2 JULY2010

Shopping made easyOK Minimark Burgersfort this month celebrates its first birthday.Looking back over the past year the store has experienced a largeamount of growth and is ready to adapt for the future.

Ms Elize Kilian, general manager of the store gave a bit away of

what clients can expect in the future. Well be making quite a fewchanges. One will be regarding the vruit and vegetable department.

This will be moved from the back of the store to the front, she said. The fresh produce will keep better in the smaller, heavily airconditioned area with the on tap water supply. The sweets and dried

fruit currently in this section of the shop, will be moved elsewhere. The Coffee Shoppe at the back of the store will also get a revamp. Itwill be enlarged and a wider menu will be available. Weve foundthat many people use the coffee shop as a place to meet clients oreven do interviews for jobs. Now there will be more space and wewill be getting someone who has worked with a chef to handle the

    food side of things.

What weve done during the past year is to try and accommodateour clients as much as possible. When they request a specific item,we try to get it. Clients however sometimes do not understand thatwe are still a convenience store and cannot keep stock of all thesizes available in a product range. We simply do not have thespace, Kilian added.

Another of the changes that will be coming is in the butchery and

this is aimed at providing not only a better service but also moreconvenience to customers. Currently only pre-packed meat is

available. After the planned changes a client will be able to buymince or boerewors per kg. You will also be able to ask for aspecific size T-Bone or instead of two or four as they are in pre-

packed form, buy only one piece of meat. Customers can also ordermeat hampers from the butchery and then pick i t up from the storethe next day. This will save them the hassle of stopping in town.We would like to thank all our loyalcustomers for their support during thisyear. Without them none of our plans for

the future would have been possible.Thank you for the positive feedback andthe way in which theyve made the storetheir own. Also thanks to the staff thatwork very hard to help create thissuccess. Their efforts are truly

appreciated. Another thank you to ourmanagement who is always there with

help, advice and encouragement, Kiliansaid. She also thanks the Lord for theblessings theyve received during theyear.

Ms Elize Kilian (store manager) with cashiers, Ms Jeanette Maupa, Ms Cecilia Makofane, Ms Martha Mashitwaand Sarah Leshabane.

Ms Lizzie Malatjie of the CoffeeShoppe.

Mr Simon Tsie is the person to speak to in the Bakery. Ms Winnie Matsana is the person in charge of perishables: fruit &vegetables.

Above: Mr John Pretorius and MsMpho Boshego are managers at thestore.

Left: Ms Elsie Morema, Mr Dingaan

Makhado and Ms Pretty Lekgau are

Residents of Maparen g, a village between Echo Caves and Leboeng contacted

Platinum Gazette earlier this week, saying the water problems at the village is

persisting and that the Greater Tubatse Municipality has done nothing so far

to fix the reticulation pr oblems.

People must n ow fetch dirty water form the river. Mapar eng has been

stru ggling with water pr ovision for months now. Two pumps is serving the

commu nity, one electrical and one diesel. At one stage one of the pu mps was

fixed, which alleviated t he problem a little bit, but one pum p was not enough t o

fill the reser voir. Residents sa y it seems tha t th e calls for reapiring of the t wo

    pumps fall on deaf ears.

Contacted for his comment, th e Ward Councillor, Cllr Josias Mah lake(photograph), told the newspaper on Wednesday that attention is given to the

problem at Maparen g. He said as far as he knows, technical staff are in the

process of repairing the diesel pump. Repa iring the of the electrical pump h as

been delayed as some component s have been ordered, but has not been received

    yet.

Cllr Mahlake said that as soon as the components have been received,

repairs to the electical pump will commen ce.

Should South Africa bid toHosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup is a

milestone for South Africa an d Africa, but

now government is aiming at the 2020

    Olympic games.

This week president J acob Zuma said tha t

the successful hosting of the World Cup

should be used as a springboard for a bid to

    host the 2020 Olympics.

The country has previously put in a bid for

the 2004 games, but then Cape Town as

host city lost out to Athens.

It is also speculated that t he stat e of the art

Soccer City st adium will be a good venue.

Experts h owever foresee tha t a ltitude could

be a problem for th e ath letes.

Durban is another a lternative as a host city.

Their Moses Mabhida Sta dium is already

fitted with a ru nning tra ck.

Should South Africa be successful in their

bid to host the Olympic games it will be the

    first for t he continent.

A host city will however ha ve to be able to

cope with at least 10 000 athletes, scores of

media and of course su pporters. The

Olympic games stretch over 16 days of

intense competition and any city will feel

the stra in on its tra nsport and security

network. Training facilities should also be

available to athletes. It is estimated th at a

host city will need at least two football or

    rugby stadiums.

The 2016 Olympic gam es will be in Rio de

Janeiro. This will be a first for South

    America.

The Inter nat ional Olympic Commit tees

president, J acques Rogge was a lso quoted

saying that he would love a credible African

    candidate to host the games.

We asked readers how they feel about a n

Olympic bid and why they feel that way.

Ms Dineo Makgamatha said: I think thatit is a good thing because we havealready hosted the Soccer World Cupand will in 10 years time be able to hostthe Olympic games. South Africa isdeveloping.

Mr Bennett Brown said: Ek dink dis ngoeie ding. Ons sal dit kan doen. SouthAfrica is developing by the minute.

Mr Thabo Ntopi said: It is a good thingbecause we are getting money fromforeigners and it will reduce poverty, thesame as the World Cup.

Ms Anna Matabane said: It is good. Weare hosting the World Cup and noteveryone believed we can. We can do itwith the Olympics too.

Ms Thami Moimane said: It is a goodthing becausemaybe South Africawill make it work, especially theSouth Africanteamsparticipating.

Mr Godfrey Lekgothwane said: Yes,because South Africa will make a lot ofmoney and create jobs.

Mnr Andr en Me. Marietjie Wolmerans s:Dit sal n goeie ding wees vir Suid Afrika, maar nou moet daar seker weer stadionsgebou word.

Mr Jack Zulu Komane said: They mustgo ahead. We want SA to have fixedroads and better transport. Maybe nexttime they host a big event we will get ourown train.

Me.

Mnr Schalk Loots s: Dis seker n goeieding. Dit sal goeie wreldbemarking virSuid Afrika wees.

Mr Moses Monareng said: They can do itprovided they take into account theoutcome of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. IfSouth Africa can benefit, especially thepoor, then maybe the bid will be fine. It alldepends. With him is SiyabongaMonareng.

Mr Clever Chinyanganya said: I think it is

a good idea. The country will benefiteconomically and we will have politicalstability. With him is Nyasha.

Mr Wide Marape and Mr Joel Motjelele said: Yes, they must go on with the campaign.Well be civilized after 2010. We are developing.

Mr Geoffrey Phoku said: Yes, we mustbecause South Africas unemploymentwill get better.

Mr Joseph Matjie and Mr Ronny Maboka said: No, they must notput in a bid because we are not benefitting.

Regs: Mnr Johan Lombard s: Nee, ekdink dis geld mors. Daar is nie eens metdie sokker geld gemaak nie. Nou nuwestadions vir atletiek. Wie moet daarvoorbetaal?
