Types of plants—Non vascular
1. Bryophytes—Mosses, liverworts, hornworts.
--Reproduction only in water
--No vascular tissue
--draw water only by osmosisVascular tissue

2. Seedless Vascular plants—ferns and their relatives
--Reproduce using spores
--Have vascular tissue to transport food and water
--Xylem-moves water through the plant--Phloem-moves food through the plant

Microscope break…• At this point, you will use the microscopes
to look at a cross section of a fern leaf, which includes the sorus, which is the spore producing part of a fern leaf.
• You will then look at a fern gametophyte (prothallium).
• Sketch each on low power and we will label when done.

Vascular plants
3. Gymnosperms– conifers, cykads, ginkgoes, gnetophytes
--reproduce by seeds—have no protective coat (naked seed).
.--includes pine, spruce, fir trees
--sperm from pollen fertilizes egg
![Page 10: Plants -Multicellular Eukaryotes that photosynthesize. -Cell walls made of cellulose.](https://reader036.fdocuments.in/reader036/viewer/2022062322/56649ead5503460f94bb4974/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Gymnosperms continued!
Pinecones (female) contain the seeds.----
Male cones contain the pollen----
Where are the different types of cones located on the tree?

4. Angiosperms—Flowering plants
--Have flowers which attract insects and birds for more efficient pollination.--have ovary—covers seed (fruit)
--animals may carry fruit to new locations—other dispersalmechanisms?

Diversity of Angiosperms
Two classes:
Comparison of monocotsand dicots.
Monocots—corn, lilly, grass, orchids, palms, etc.
Dicots—roses, clover, tomatoes,
daisies, etc.
Dicotyledonae (dicots)Monocotyledonae (monocots)
