Employability at Brunel• Employability has always been at the heart of Brunel as a result of

our strong links with business and industry and our history of sandwich placement

• Purpose built employability centre and award winning service provision for three consecutive years

• Over 30 dedicated staff, including specialist industry consultants who understand recruitment processes

• A new ‘Ready for Work, Ready for Life’ module for 1st years will be piloted in Sept 2013 to help students understand the skills employers are looking for and the opportunity to develop them

• Employability is linked to the teaching curriculum via employer led projects and projects led by the Placement and Careers Centre

• The graduate employment market remains competitive and the most successful students will need a proactive approach to develop the experience and skills employers are looking for

• Overall starting salary for 2011/12 leavers was £21,432• 88% of students were in full time work, further study or a combination

The advantage of Sandwich Placement • Brunel’s tradition and reputation means that we have placements

available with companies such as IBM, BMW, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, PwC, McLaren, Dyson, NHS

• Graduates who complete a sandwich placement have significantly better employment outcomes than those who don’t

• 2012 sandwich placement graduates earned a salary premium of just under £4000 more than their non-placement peers

• Placement recruitment processes are competitive and mirror those used in graduate recruitment

• 92% of placement students went onto be in work or further study or a combination

• On average the starting placement salary in 2012 was £ 14,000
