The existing building, which dates from the 1950s, will be demolished to make way for new male and female toilets, change rooms, bike racks, accessible toilets and extensive landscaping. An additional smaller building will be built for the winter swimming club. There will be temporary public toilets and space for the swim club to use during construction. “Mahon Pool is a lovely, sheltered place to swim if people aren’t keen to tackle the waves of Maroubra Beach,” said Mayor Neilson. “It’s a favourite of both recreational and club swimmers, and both groups will appreciate the upgraded amenities which have been designed to blend in with the lovely sandstone surroundings of the area.” A café will not be part of the design after Council resolved at a meeting not to include this in the new plans following community feedback. Funding for the project has been allocated as part of Council’s Our Community Our Future program in the 2018-19 Capital Works Budget.” Melbourne Cup Day Tuesday 6 th November The day will commence at 10am with Bingo followed by Lunch at 11.30am; Entertainment will commence at 12pm with The Girlz Duo. There will be prizes for Best Dressed; plus a raffle & Trivia Quiz; Cup Sweeps will be available from reception and TAB facilities in the Sports Bar on the 2 nd floor. Members can swipe their cards for $10 free raffle tickets. There is no ticket charge just come along and enjoy the day. A great selection of dishes will be available from the Bistro with a glass of sparkling wine or soft drink included with any meal purchase. Please note - the usual $12.90 specials will not be available on Melbourne Cup Day. $100 to be won every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday at 8pm plus entry into the major draw to win a Suzuki Swift plus $10,00 in cash on Saturday 8 th December at 6.45pm. The proceedings commenced with posthumous honour award presentedto Bernie Spies family. Bernie who sadly passed in January contributedgreatly to the Seals Winter Swimming Club and also the Seals IndoorSwimming Club and will be sadly missed.
