Holiday Seals Fundraiser

The holidays, my favorite time of year – the days are short, the air is brisk, families try their best to be closer and most people seem happier and more at piece. At no other time of year do these words ring any more true, “while the receiving is good, the giving is even better.” The holidays are a time of giving – giving that warms the heart and the soul…

Moose Charities and The California/Nevada Moose Association are partnering in a fundraiser that benefits our Association and the Mooseheart Child City & School. In early November, active Loyal Order of Moose members will receive an envelope containing a sheet

of Holiday seals, designed by Mooseheart students, and a donation request.

Holiday seals are traditional ways to dress up your greeting cards or seasonal letters to friends and loved ones. Using these seals will spread the joy and love of the holiday season and your donation will help support our Association and our children of Mooseheart.

I wish everyone the best for this holiday season and thank you kindly for your support!

CNMA PRESIDENT WILL GO HAIRLESS?

IS IT TRUE? IS IT FALSE? IS IT FACT OR FICTION? OR IS IT JUST NEWS NUGGETS FROM UNDER THE MOOSE’S TAIL?

It was purportedly overheard at a recent Moose gathering, of both Lodge and Chapter members, that California/Nevada Moose Association President, Ace Charlton, would “shave off his beard” and maybe “the hair on his head” if the Association’s

membership quota is met or exceeded by April 30, 2010!!!

Further un-substantiated information indicated that the “de-bearding” would take place at the CNMA Annual Association Meeting in Palm Springs, in September 2010!!! Single beard clipper strokes to remove said beard may be auctioned off as well, and the proceeds donated to the Association! It was further rumored that if the “facial” hair auction was successful, the hair on his “head” might also be put on the auction block.

There are only a two facts that are known. The first, if the Quota is not reached we will never know what the face behind the beard looks like? And second, does it cover up a whole bunch of pretty? The challenge has been made. We have our chance to find out what this President looks like “hairless…”

Brother Jack was on a well deserved vacation last month. Look for his message in next month’s newsletter. For now, enjoy some pictures from our Halloween Party ‘09.

Governor’s Message

Senior Regent’s Message Hello to all!

I can’t believe that this year is almost over. We’ve really had a lot go-ing on the past five months. All of our Co-workers should be proud of all your accomplish-ments.

I would like to intro-duce you to our Sunshine Grandmother, Bonnie Maas. She lives at Moose-haven and a year ago her daughter joined her there. We have been in contact with her and if you look on the WOTM wall area you’ll see her picture. She

would love it if we could all send her a line, just to say Hi. She doesn’t re-ceive much mail, and I’m sure she would love it. If your interested in contact-ing her, please contact me. I would love to give you her contact information.

Christmas is almost here and the planning for the Children’s Party and Adult Party are under way. Please come and en-joy Christmas with us.

We really need your help in providing meals at the lodge. Our Officers and regular volunteers are

in need of some relief. When we meet to fill the calendar, we end up with the same volunteers every month. So, please, if you have an idea for a new or current meal to make at our World Famous Moose Lodge, let one of our Offi-cers know about it and we will be glad to get it on the calendar. It would be greatly appreciated by all of us.

I would also like to ask that you pray for our troops and their families during this Christmas sea-son and throughout the

new year.

I would like to person-ally give thanks to every-one who has helped me throughout the past five months and hope that we can all continue to work together in peace and har-mony.

My Love to all and God Bless.

Senior Regent

Alice Aikman

• Be aware. It is essential to be aware of your surroundings at all times. By being alert, you may be able to stop an attack before it occurs.

• Trust your instincts. Listen to what your intuition tells you. This will allow you to avoid a situation that does not feel safe.

• Keep your cell phone handy. It is critical to have a cell phone at all times, but do not keep it glued to your ear. Talking on the phone causes people to be less aware of their surroundings.

• Avoid presenting a victim profile. When out in public look people in the eye, keep your head up, and walk with a confident stride. This could prevent an attack.

• Lock car doors and leave. Many people have the tendency to get into their car and sit. This gives an attacker the ability to break into the vehicle and cause bodily harm, or allow them to steal the car.

• Keep your wallet close. Always carry your purse or wallet, do not leave it in the shopping cart. For added security, men’s wallets can be carried in the front pockets of their pants to help avoid pick pocketing.

• Walk in pairs. When shopping alone and leaving at night, ask a security officer to accompany you to your car. When carrying several packages you become a target; safety comes in numbers.

• When attacked, attack back. You need to make your attacker fear their own safety. Strike their weaker points: the eyes, knees or throat.

• Almost anything can be a weapon. Everyday objects such as keys or pepper spray can be used against an attacker.

• Take a self defense class. It does not hurt to be properly trained so if an attack occurs you’re able to protect yourself.
