TEAM STATSTONIGHTThe Osprey resume their three-game series with the Helena Brewers by hosing the Brewers for the sixth chapter of a seven-game home stand. Left-hander Brady Muller takes the ball for the Osprey, looking to shake off a couple of tough starts in which he was tagged for a total of 17 runs and took losses on both occasions. Tonight, he faces a Brewers lineup that was heavily laiden with right-hand hitters on Saturday night when they exploded for three home runs and 11 runs in total, launching them past Missoula to a 1-0 series lead.

MUSICAL ROSTERSOn Saturday, the Osprey welcomed two additions to their roster after 2016 Missoula infielder Kyle Smith was transferred to the O’s from Hillsboro and pitcher Carlos Bustamante was signed out of the Mexican League and assigned to Missoula. The duo joins 2017 32nd-round pick, OF Will Gorman, as weekend additions to the Osprey roster. Entering the second game of the O’s series with Helena, the roster shuffles continue, as infield Ryan Grotjohn was transferred to Hillsboro following Saturday night’s game and infielder Jose Caballero arrived in town Sunday morning. Caballero, the D-backs’ 7th-round pick in this year’s draft becomes the highest draft pick from the 2017 draft to suit up for the Osprey. With the corresponsing moves on Saturday and Sunday, the Osprey have now made a whopping 22 roster transactions just 13 games into the season.

POWER SURGEAfter totaling just two home runs in the first eight games of the season, the Osprey have combined to smash seven blasts in the last three nights, including three on Wednesday. Between June 23rd and June 27th, the Osprey went a season-high 35 and 2/3 innings without hitting a long ball.

LAST NIGHTMissoula opened it’s three-game home series with the Helena Brewers on Saturday night, limping to an 11-1 loss. Starting pitcher Kai-Wei Lin worked four innings of scoreless baseball to begin the game before Helena broke the game open with five runs in the top of the fifth. Lin surrendered two homers in the inning--his fourth and fifth allowed this season--en route to falling behind 5-0. In the bottom of the frame, the O’s got one run back on an RBI-groundout from Andy Yerzy, but were unable to offer further resistance. At night’s end, the Osprey fell by a final score of 11-1 and sank to 5-8 on the season.

STARTING FROM SCRATCHThrough the first 13 games of 2017, the Osprey starting pitching rotation has struggled to provide substantive outings, instea stumbling to early exits regularly. To date, only two starts have lasted six innings or more. While neither the bullpen nor the starting rotation has performed particularly well, the Osprey starting staff has been a bigger weakeness than the bullpen. Starters have combined for a 6.35 ERA, compared to the 5.33 mark of the bullpen. Last night, Osprey starter Kai-Wei Lin turned in five innings of work in the process of losing his third consecutive start.

PROMOTIONAL PLANNINGOn Sunday, the O’s host a trio of events: Senior Sunday, Family Night, and Kids Day.

On Monday, the Osprey present the second of four fireworks extravaganzas, as they celebrate Independence Day one day early.

BRADY MULLER

PLAYER PROFILE...• 24-year-old left-hander pitches in his third professional season,

but first in affiliated minor leageu baseball.• Prior to being signed on June 19, Muller pitched for the Windy

City Thunderbolts of the independent Frontier League.• In his Osprey debut Muller became the first player in the history

of the MSU-Billings baseball program to pitch in an affiliated baseball game

LAST OUTING...Strugged through 4.2 innings in front of the Ogren Park at Allegiance Field crowd in his first home start for the Osprey. After two no-hit innings, the wheels fell off the cart of Muller, as he surrendered three homers in the subseqent 2.1 innings, matching a season-high for Missoula pitchers. Additionally, his 12 hits allowed and 9 runs surrendered are season-highs for the Missoula staff. While Muller enjoyed an early 3-0 lead thanks, in part, to a two-run homer from Gavin Stupienski, the left-hander was not able to settle into a rythm. As a result, Billings scored 9 consecutive runs from the top of the third to the top of the fifth.

2016 SEASON RECAP... Competed in first full season of professional baseball for the Windy City Thunderbolts after debuting in 2015 with the Thunderbolts. In 2016, posted a 3-9 record and a 4.48 ERA in 15 games pitched (all starts) spanning 84.1 innings of work.

OSPREY LAST NIGHTMISSOULA, MONT. - Despite notching nine hits, the Missoula Osprey (5-8) left nine men on base and managed only one run in an 11-1 defeat to the Helena Brewers (7-6), sinking them to their first loss since Wednesday.

The first four innings of Saturday night’s ball game offered the appearance of a competitive game, as the Osprey and Brewers entered the fifth scoreless. Osprey starting pitcher Kai-Wei Lin toed the rubber for the fifth inning having worked four scoreless frames despite escaping danger in the second. On his first pitch of the fifth, Lin’s string of scoreless innings came to an end when Brewers right fielder Jose Gomez lofted his first home run of the season to left field. The homer was the first of two for Gomez, as he added a grand slam in the seventh to round out the scoring.

Following Gomez’s fifth-inning homer, Helena added four more runs in the frame on a two-run single by third baseman Dallas Carroll and a two-run homer by Gabriel Garcia. In the bottom half of the fifth, the Osprey offered their only resistance of the night, plating a run on a one-out RBI groundout by catcher Andy Yerzy. Following Yerzy’s run-scoring grounder, Helena plated six unanswered runs to finish the game, pushing the score to its final number of 11-1.

At the plate for Missoula, first baseman Francis Martinez logged a three-hit night for his first multi-hit game of the season. Keshawn Lynch and Luis Lara each went 2-for-4. Yeison Santana logged two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to finish the game.
