PILOT MOUNTAIN RCC MEETING - MAY 26, 2103 FAIRVIEW MORAVIAN CHURCH - 2:00 P.M.

Jo Beth Boyles called the meeting to order. The Rev. Bob Peek opened the meeting with a prayer and gave a devotion on John 3: 1-18 which is the story of Jesus and Nicodemus. RCC members introduced themselves. Those present were: Matthew Allen, Tammy Lewis, and Louise Hester from Oak Grove; Jo Beth Boyles and Jeff Jones from Bethabara; Bob Peek and Randy Peddycord from Providence; Dan Nelson and Kelly Lintner from Fulp; and Pat Sapp, Dorcas Hauser, and Scott Venable from Fairview. Scott Venable read the minutes from the last meeting held at Oak Grove on January 27, 2013.

Jeff Jones reported on the monthly Moravian Ministerial Association meetings and noted that the next one was scheduled for June 6th at Trinity. The theme will be Nurturing Spiritual Growth in Your Congregation and will be led by the BCM. A lunch for those interested will follow in the Resource Room in Salem. The RCC pastors continue to meet the first Monday of the month for prayer and lunch. The next meeting will be Monday, June 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview in the Conference Room. (The July meeting will be July 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove).

Oak Grove and Fulp reported on the Staten Island mission trip where seven of their members are going August 24-31, 2013. They will stay at Great Kills Moravian Church on Staten Island and help rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The cost is $500 per person. T-shirts are going to be sold for $12.00 each as a fundraiser. The possibility of a RCC mission camp at Laurel Ridge will not happen due to competing youth events such as Convo and Sr. High Camp.

Jeff shared about the Music Ministry at Bethabara including a Summer Recital Series that is open to the public and runs from June 15th through August 3rd. There will also be a Provincial Choir Concert on November 15th at 7:00 p.m. and an Anniversary Lovefeast on November 17th at 3:00 p.m.

Randy asked about revisiting the idea of having an RCC Choir and/or RCC Band. Discussion followed with no definite decision made.

Scott mentioned that all the RCC churches were invited to Fairview’s Independence Day celebration on July 4th at the Activity Building and Picnic area at Fairview. Games for all ages begin at 4:00; the band gives a concert of patriotic music at 5:00; and the cookout is at 6:00 p.m.

On the second Sunday in September (September 8th), Providence will give a band concert at 4:00 p.m.

Providence Church has a need for a permanent pianist. The current pianist has been ill and they’ve had to rely on several volunteer pianists. Any suggestions are welcome.

Jo Beth mentioned the BCM E-Newsletter as a good communication tool for what is happening in the Province.

Randy spoke about the (Highway) 66 Club that meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. at Providence. They have a potluck lunch and program for Seniors in the area.

An RCC outing for members of all five churches at Pilot Mountain was discussed. Jo Beth will call and get available Sunday afternoon dates for the Fall. The Pavilion could be rented. Two dates that were discussed were September 15th and September 22nd. A possible schedule could be hiking at 3:00, a combined band concert at 4:00 and a cookout at 6:00 p.m.

The next meeting of the Pilot Mountain RCC was set for Sunday afternoon, August 11th, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethabara.

Jo Beth passed out printed information on the Moravian Leadership Network. New officers for the BCM are Paula Hall – Chair; Lisa Kirkman – Vice-Chair; and Walter Bishop – Secretary.

Dan Nelson closed the meeting with prayer. All enjoyed refreshments provided by Fairview.

Respectfully submitted,
