The Parents in Equity Group was formed in 2019 to help facilitate

communication between schools in the pursuit of cultural

proficiency and equity for all of our students and families. This

group of parents and administrators will work together to continue

to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all families

at every building in our school district.

PIE Committee Mission & Vision

The Parents in Equity Group (PIE) has parent representation from every

building in the district. These parents meet every other month to learn about

what is happening in the district in the area of cultural proficiency, as well as

share ideas and collaborate across the district on projects aimed to promote

the mission and vision of the group. On alternate months, PIE sub

committees will meet.

PIE members are also asked to actively participate at the building level

Cultural Proficiency and Equity (CPE) Team at their home school(s). PIE

members will work with the members of the CPE team to implement building

specific tasks and objectives, and foster the exchange of ideas between

their school's CPE team and the other members of PIE across the district .

-Encouraged members to connect with their book fair chair people with the purpose of amplifying diverse and inclusive books available at the book fair and prominently feature topics pertaining to autism, religion, race, gender, and family dynamics.

-Created a shared google drive of Book Fair Resources which included fliers, informational reading about how and why to choose diverse books, and a list of suggested books to highlight for purchase. Many of these resources were included in weekly communications at the building level throughout the year.

StoryWalk®

Laminated pages from a children's book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you're directed to the next page in the story.

Encourage adaptation of the StoryWalk® Project at Elementary Schools to align with PIE’s mission by selecting texts that feature diverse characters and messages of inclusion.

Be an Ambassador and an Advocate

Understand the work happening at the district level in order to be an ambassador and advocate of that work at your building level. Increase the visibility of the work within the district and provide others with opportunities to bet involved.

Engage and Contribute

Actively engage in the efforts at your building, invite others to join in the work, contribute to the sharing of information between buildings, and relay information between your building team and the PIE group.

Your Role as a PIE member
