Today’s great weather is perfect for enjoying the outdoors so my cycling buddies and I met up for a trip to admire the beautiful greenery of Bang Waad Dam whilst working up a sweat on our bicycles.

The 6-kilometer route around the dam was filled with fertile plants and trees growing wild, and we cyclists couldn’t be more appreciative of the fresh air that filled our lungs.

The route was challenging and filled with uphill and downhill slopes. Though tired, everyone had fun because the surrounding scenery and large trees kept us feeling refreshed.

Often found in high mountains, we saw little streams that originate from rocky crevices evolve into waterfalls. Little children were splashing around having a good time in the fresh pool of water.

Our group continued cycling until we reached the edge of the dam. The small, open path allows for 360 degree view of the surrounding area that was covered with greenery and dotted with rest areas along the way.

Today’s cycling trip to Bang Waad Dam has proven to be lots of fun for everyone. We took turns taking over and showed off whatever new tricks we could come up with.

The path around the dam was filled with people lazing around enjoying the view or engrossed in their daily jogging exercises.

At the entrance of the dam is Phuket Country Club Golf Course where lots of trees grow, making the air is significantly cooler than the vast, open spaces nearby. We like this whole area so much that we plan to cycle here daily if possible.

Baan Sam Chong Tai is renowned for its picturesque morning ray that shimmers against the surface of the water. This area is where the three canals meet and thus became the name of the village (Baan Sam Chong means home of three channels).

This holiday is going to be extra special because we booked ourselves a day tour from Phuket to a very wonderful destination. The scenic trip on the spacious white boat took just over an hour to reach the coveted paradise called Maya Bay located in Krabi Province.

So you can probably imagine how delighted we were to be here. We made a mental list of activities to make sure we didn’t miss anything and among these were picture taking, strolling on the beach, lazing on the sand, swimming, snorkeling and generally taking in every sight and sound of the island.

Not to waste any time, some of us dove right into the vast ocean where schools of fish thrive. And while these were so delightful, snorkeling around the coral reefs made the experience even more enchanting.

From Maya Bay, we walk on foot to Loh Sama Bay located on the other side of the island. Though small in size, it is brimming with beauty. The emerald water and the surroundings were like a creation of Monet, only they are very real and very tangible indeed.

Another landmark found here is the monument of “Phraya Rasadan-upradit Mahisornpakdi” or Korsimbee of Ranong, a prominent man who, during his years in office, had developed and laid out solid foundations for Phuket in its early days.

Baan Kanan is a small village in Amphur Thalang where local residents practice age-old tradition as example for later generations to learn and follow. For this trip, we wish to take our readers on a journey to find new cultural experiences which the locals were very happy to share with us.

We made Thalang’s Somtam that uses freshly crushed pepper-corn as the main flavoring agent, then chili paste using herbs and fresh shrimps, crushed together by hand the way kapi chili paste is made. For soup, we cooked up some really tangy soup using sour orange as the main ingredient.

For sweets, there were three stations. The first was Kanom Khu, a local sweet made of flour dough rolled into round balls, covered with toddy palm sugar and shredded coconut. The second one was Kanom Krok, a pancake-like coconut milk cake taken with unrefined sugar. And the last one was grilled sticky rice mixed with coconut milk stuffed inside bamboos.

Ji liew told us that every morning at six a.m., her employees would start cooking 60-100 kilograms of sticky rice. The amount depends on the order which increases a lot during the festival period.
