This is considered a
positive aspectbecause kids under
the age of 12 can
play in the park. The
park is clean and safe
for families to comespend time with their
kids. The people in
the community
wouldnt have to
worry about brokenglass or any
dangerous aspect of
the safety of their
children.
Clean, neat, cool, and a safe place in thecommunity where the kids go and play.

This is considered a
negative aspect
because a beaten up
car is taking up spacefor a garden or a
community center. A
beaten up car was
not being used by the
owner which gave theimage to the
community it was
okay to have a
beaten up car any
where you likebecause no one is
using the vacant lot
for anything besides a
storage space for
broken down cars.
Beaten down rust bucket and veryold.

This is considered a
positive aspectbecause in the
Woodlawn
community there
isnt anything in the
empty vacant lotsand having a garden
is a perfect use for
it. A garden is a
perfect example of
a way for thecommunity to take
care of the
neighborhood.
Green and earthy, it brings life uponthe community.

This is considered a
negative aspect
because a little girlhad fallen into that
hole. This hole
could be dangerous
to the community
because any littlekid could easily fall
into the hole and
get hurt. The
community should
find a way to eitherwarn people about
the hole or just fill
the hole with soil.
Dark deep hole in the middle of avacant lot. Also a little girl hadfallen into it.

When we went past65thand Kimbark
we saw someone
cutting the vacant
grass. He tried to
make theneighborhood
better by keeping
the grass
maintained at a
short height.Community effort: fresh cut grass in avacant lot

Its good to see
many schools in the
Woodlawn
community, so when
people get olderthey can give back.
When people give
back it makes the
community look
better and helpsothers in the
community.

The walls under the
viaduct are
crumbling. There is
graffiti on the wallsand they are
molded. The water
is leaking from the
surface.

Its wrong that
people choose to
destroy what so
little good things we
have in the
neighborhood.
Because of that
people on the
outside looking in
judge us.All the graffiti everywhere

Some areas in the
neighborhood need
to be reconstructed
(for example, all the
empty lots and
abandoned buildings
we saw and pot
holes). Its a lot of
pot holes around
here in every
neighborhood they
filled the pot holes
except for the areas
Woodlawn Stony
Island.

Murals can be
created to set a
positive mood.
Make most graffiti
into a different
meaning.
Build moreinspiration for
others using a
positive way for
graffiti.
The decayed pieces
of areas can be
created as a statue
for a bigger
meaning.

Good for safety
Should be placed in
more commonplaces.
Could help solve a
lot of crime taking
place any where.Emergency call box

community.

The first positive
aspect was while wewere exploring the
community we went
past a beautiful
piece of land, the
65th/Woodlawncommunity garden.
I believe its pretty
important because
its symbolic of self-
determination,team work, and
care. Its a piece of
art.

The second positive
aspect is the
Woodlawn Adult
Health Care Clinic.
This is a positive
aspect because its
more convenient for
people who dont
have a constant
transportation, and
elderly people who
cant get to an from.
It makes the
community look
outstanding.

The first negative
aspect of the
dilapidated house is
it seems as thegovernment has
manipulated the
building, numerous
half done
constructionprojects were done.
They also had an
available entry
opening to thieves
and animals. It putsa bad imprint on the
community - some
may see it as a trap
house.

The second negative
aspect is while we
were on our journey,
we went passed a
big ball of garbage
next to a garbage
can. It shows as if
our community is
unfit to take care of
our land and its just
a negative all over.Ball of garbage

In the neighborhood
we saw good and
bad sights. We saw
gardens, all differenttypes of gardens
such as the Japanese
garden. We had a
tour of the garden.
We also saw oldviaducts and
abandoned
buildings. The
viaduct could use
more work on it.The church we saw
was a positive thing
for the
neighborhood.

Abandoned
buildings are not
good because
people can getkidnapped and
taken into the
building. Also there
are broken windows
in the abandonedbuildings.Abandoned buildings

Bad things about
the viaducts: It wasdark and had
broken glass.
How to make it
better: Maybe someart work on the
walls and a little
light so people can
see at night. Maybe
they can put somehistory of the block
on the wall.

After hitting thatmain street (Stony
Island) many young
African American
boys started to
appear. When wewalked past the
boys they shouted
out Hey you? What
do #FTL mean!
Come here and heasked how old I was.
As a female I felt
disrespected.

Some good qualities
about the
environment is the
buildings are new
and nice and parks
are clean. Another
good quality is the
park is a safe place
to play.

One negative
quality is the soil
and this is bad for
the community. Itsbad because of the
littering and now it
hasnt been kept up
with.
