Page 1: Photoshoot planning project

I shall be photographing the city of London, from the various scenes that I picture in my head. At different times of the day. I will be taking these pictures for the London Independent Magazine article “London Through the Lens”. They would like some photos of places around London, some various styles of shots, some buildings & other iconic structures.

I’ll be traveling around the South Embankment area, I shall initially get there via Tube. Firstly by joining the Central Line at Epping, using my oyster card I shall travel down to Bank, where i’ll switch to the Waterloo & City Line. Traveling a short distance to Waterloo, where I’ll make a final switch onto the Bakerloo Line and head to Embankment. This journey will total to roughly an hours time. Below is the breakdown:The journey itself shouldn’t cost too mucheither, with my oyster card especially.I shall be traveling out of rush hour time,so hopefully the train should be relatively quiet.

Some of the main risks & dangers of beingin London are going to be the traveling. As it is a rather busy city, I will be expecting the worst when it comes to boardthe tube, obviously i’ll be sensible whenI get on and off the tube, but I shall be also carful in other situations, such ascrossing the road. Or whilst around water, mainly the River Thames. If I am asked tomove along from taking a picture, I will bewilling to leave the site & anyone that asks me if I have written permission, has full right to ask me to delete the pictures. I won’t be working with any additional electrical source lights, so I don’t need to take these into consideration.

To stay safe, I will try to eliminate as many risks as possible. I shall be traveling down to London with a friend, purely for the company but again she will act as a witness to where I am. I shall be informing my parents where I will be going and also where I happen to be at various points in the day. I will also gain permission, but I don’t imagine that it will be an issue. Whilst I take the pictures I shall be wearing a luminescent yellow jacket, this should eliminate the amount of interruption from other tourist activity.

Equipment Price

Lumix DMC-ZS3 Compact Digital Camera £119.70

I don’t plan on using any other equipment, this is to keep the shoot as low budget as possible. I feel that I can create some decent photos using a camera that isn’t of the best specifications that is out at the moment. I can always tweak them post shoot, if I feel that they need editing. I am always pleased when I photograph doesn’t need any editing though.

Here’s the specification for the Lumix, for comparisons sake:

To theme my pictures I have found a set of professional photographs, these will help me illustrate my own work and also set a guide to how I want to capture my own photographs.

The image above is roughly in the same location that I have chosen to do my photo-shoot, along the Embankment. Overlooking the River Thames, the London Eye and also Big Ben. I will try to capture the various sites at different angles and the possible lighting conditions throughout the day.

This picture is by the same photographer-Will Barton. It is taken from the bridgethat is just a bit further back. Where theprevious picture was actually taken fromthe bridge that you can see in the mid-ground of the picture. This image playswith various lighting conditions which iswhat I wish to achieve with my photographs.Fortunately I will be in London all day tosee it in all conditions of light.

Another Will Barton photograph, however this time he plays with the reflective surface of the water on the River Thames. It is quite a majestic image, the light picks up the windows and really highlights the tone of the image. It helps to create a feeling of elegance & finesse.
