Photographer - SurenManvelyan Why I picked this photographer I picked Suren to look at specifically as I am interested in two of his portfolios, one being the eyes and the other nature. Within these portfolio’s he uses macro photography in order to capture specific detail, after looking at a few photos I found this inspiring and therefore wanted to research more into it.Suren became a professional photographer in 2006, and since then his worked has been published in newspapers and magazines worldwide, therefore showing his high level of skills and quality. His portfolios of eyes have proven to be very popular getting many views on the web worldwide, this is probably how I found his work and then decided o do further research. This is one picture I found from his portfolio which was really interesting. The image is of a horses eye which I found hard to believe as I have taken images of horses eyes before but they have never looked like this. However this is because he has used a macro lens which ha enables him to capture more detail than me, I like the fact you can see the lashes and the skin in so much detail, as mine never caught this. I also like the fact that you can see the reflection in the eye, this is something I did manage to capture and it worked out well. Another thing I like about this photo is the fact you can see the light reflecting of the eye, I think it looks more natural. This image is of a turtle’s eye, I found this very interesting, as I’ve never seen a turtles eye up close before. Looking at it straight away I would have thought it was a snakes eye due to the colours, however I was shocked to see it was a turtles eye, as I didn’t think it would be these sorts of colours. I like the stripe it has through it as this is different, I think this image would have been very important as I’m sure a lot of people have never seen a turtles eye up close therefore they will find it interesting. I think the colours stand out as I like the mix of the greens as they’re different shades. This is an image of a human’s eye; I picked this image as I thought it would be good to see the difference between the human eyes and the animal eyes. As you can see there is lots of differences, for example the human eyes has more of a mixture of colours compared to the animal eyes which I didn’t expect as I thought it would have been the other way around. I like the swirls and the fact you can see the veins of the eye, also I like how you can see the individual colours and how they are mixed together, as this is something you wouldn’t necessarily notice face to face.

Why I picked this photographer I picked Suren to look at specifically as I am interested in two of his portfolios, one being the eyes and the other nature.

This image is one I found from his nature portfolio, even though y main focus was eyes I wanted to analyse another one of his images, as I really like this one. I like how you can see the individual frost crystals on the leaf; the fact that the background is blurred out makes this stand out more. I have tried something similar to this before however I have to be dependent on the weather if I want to get images likes this; therefore it would be quite hard. Another thing I like about this image is the positioning of it, I like the fact that the leaf takes up most of the image.

How this photographer has influenced me Suren has influenced me as he has made me more aware of the details within human and animal eyes, after looking through his portfolio I am thinking about re-doing some of my shoots do with animal an human eyes. I have already done a shoot on eyes, which was based around human eyes, however now I would like to re-do it in order to be more specific and try and capture more detail like Suren has. The shoot would therefore take place in the studio so I could set up the lighting specifically, also I would have to use a macro lens. I would also like to try another shoot based around horse eyes, I don a shoot like this in my unit 3, which I thought was quite successful however I think I could of got more detail, obviously this would be harder as I will be outside and will not be able to use a macro lens. Also after looking through his nature portfolio he has given me some ideas of what to capture next, I would like to do a shoot based around frost however, this is something which I will have to time right with the weather.

SummaryOverall I am very impressed with the work from Suren, I found it to be very different from all my other photographers I have looked at in detail, however, I found him very useful as I could link him to some of my shoots I have already done. I thought his work was good when I first looked at it, however I became more interested in it as I went along which shows his level of skills and wide ranged portfolio, I know Suren is successful through his photos as they have been published in many places, therefore I knew he would be a good photographer to look at for my unit.
