Described as an unusual twist on the usual by merging fashion design and runway models to create exclusive pieces, Photo/Genics + Co are set to take the industry by storm with their latest lifestyle collection that includes everything from one of a kind denim rocker jackets and travel blankets to modern candle scents and statement tees. This grounding breaking new clothing line mixes uber hip vibes with clean couture runways lines exclusively designed by Photo/Genics models who are seen walking the runways from Paris to New York, with select items created internally by CEO Nicole Bordeaux herself. Designed in Los Angeles, each distinctive style from Photo/Genics + Co will fit every woman wanting to make a statement without ever saying a word and with each collaboration the industry is primed to receive this new version of apparel entering the market. District, they strive to make a lasting mark in the industry. Legendary Bordeaux Models founder Nicole Bordeaux and co-owners Dean and Davis Factor (founders of Smashbox Cosmetics & Studios) decided to come together and blend their ideas into an emerging fashion influencer space to combine branding and social media with fashion. Not only do they relentlessly search for the next new faces in beauty but ultimately change the landscape of pop culture with its unique outlook on how to bring high end couture styles to the millennial jetsetter. There’s just something about the street style aesthetic that seems to lure us all in. It’s effortless, it’s fun, and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. But with so many high-end designers gaining inspo from the streets, the line between high fashion and street-wear is blurred.

Los Angeles-based clothing company Photo/Genics + Co embodies this blending of the high and the “low” flawlessly. “This grounding breaking new clothing line mixes uber hip vibes with clean couture runways lines,” they note. The collection is exclusively designed by Photo/Genics models, and Bordeaux Models founder Nicole Bordeaux. The bread and butter of this clothing company is the collaborative spirit, bringing in passionate creative to produce cool lifestyle products. Oversized vintage denim jackets, and unisex tees feature original artwork by Ganna Bogdan and photographer Lena Shkoda. An oversized button down shirt features “tattoo design” by DJ and model Chloe Norgaard. The lifestyle pieces include a terrarium, and stationary to name a few. Minimalist jewelry pieces in gold, rose gold, and gun metal plated sterling silver are designed by Rachel Katz. Excuse our name dropping, but you can see the spirit of entrepreneurial promotion is what keeps this burgeoning brand thriving. We caught up with the Creative Director of Photo/Genics + Co Melanie De Jesus, to discuss the collaboration process, who they want to work with, and what we can expect to see in the future.

How Did Photogenics CO-OP program come about?

“The Photogenics culture thrives on creation and collaboration. Even as a modeling agency, we always knew that our strength lies in our ability to marry art and commerce, always drawn to unique and interesting faces and a more artistic, editorial approach to promoting the models, so it only made sense to tap into that when conceptualizing the brand last summer. The birth of PhotogenicsMAG and the Photogenics Art Books were a big eye opener in terms of the amazing things that can happen out of the collaborative spirit, so we want to bring that same spirit into the brand through our CO-OP Program, allowing artists, influencers, and talented people to essentially come and create their own brand with us. It’s been really rewarding and exciting for us.”

With so much untapped talent in art, fashion, and design how do you go about selecting collaborators for your capsule collections?

“Right now, we are using existing relationships —people we’ve been keeping our eye on over the years, people with something meaningful to say and promote, tastemakers with a very distinct style or point of view, and artists who just need a platform to stand on and amazing ideas that just need a little push. We’re about to launch a new season and a new co-op collection with Madison Paige [@madisonpaige], a brilliant music artist and model, who is an activist in the LGBT community promoting awareness for gender equality, and is just a positive role model. These are the kind of individuals we want to align ourselves with. We’ll definitely be on the hunt for upcoming co-ops.”

What kind of support do you offer creatives to give them a larger platform?

“I think the biggest thing creatives may have trouble with is the product development process, executing the big idea is not easy as we’ve been discovering through our journey so far with Photogenics+Co, and we provide the tools needed to make the ideas come to life, along with a full staff of creatives from, PR, and digital marketing strategists to designers, graphic designers, photographers, etc. The owner, Nicole Bordeaux, is also super hands on, providing guidance on the business side, teaching these creatives the ropes of being a business owner. It’s a priceless and

valuable thing that they can take with them forever.” Although you collaborate with others, there seems to be a cohesive aesthetic for the CO-OP. Describe that aesthetic, and how did it come to be?

“Well, the intention we set in the beginning with these co-ops and the reason for calling it the CO-OP, is not to create

completely separate brands, but rather extensions of Photogenics+Co the parent brand. We put out our own products

independent of any collaborations, and worked really hard to solidify the brand identity of Photogenics as a whole, so

the Co-Ops are meant to have a little bit of both the collaborator and us combined, which is to say each co-op should

still be clean, stark, minimal, monochromatic for the most part, and elevated. That’s what we’re aiming for, it’s truly a

collaborative effort.”

Given the lifestyle element of the brand, what else can we expect to see from you guys in the coming seasons?

“We have some more apparel in the works – a couple statement pieces launching early next month, but other than that we’re in the development process for a swimwear co-op (the collaborator is still hush hush), another artist collab is with this amazing painter, David Sutherland, doing stationary and table top items with him and more leather goods. We hope to keep it fresh every season.”

Are there any celebrities who you would like to bring on as partners?

“We’d love to work with someone like FKA Twigs – she’s just a magical creature with a completely unique vision. It’d

be really interesting to see what she’d come up with.”
