  • Syllabus/Class DescriptionThe primary objectives of the Art Department are to encourage students to develop individual expression in the fine and applied arts, to stimulate their curiosity regarding the world around them, and to make them aware that individuals can either beautify or spoil their environment.This course focuses on the elements and principles of design and composition through digital photography, photo editing and digital imaging. Skills and knowledge are further developed through art criticism, art history (particularly pertaining to photography), and aesthetics by looking at art by other students and artists.The student will create a digital portfolio project using PowerPoint throughout the semester and the completed digital portfolio will act as the Final Exam.

  • SUPPLIED MATERIALSTEXTBOOK: ArtTalk and Foundations of ArtStudents use the book that corresponds to their Drawer #

  • TOOLSStudents should provide their OWN digital cameraClass cameras may be available to check out for use.Each student must have the cords and batteries necessary for their digital camera.

  • CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONSThe following is a list that goes along with the rules stated previouslyAttend classes regularly and on time.Listen while the teacher is giving directions. NO music players.Complete each assignment to the best of your ability with good craftmanship.Complete homework when assigned.Hand in your work on time.Improve your work when directed by teacher.Clean up daily.Be responsible for the supplies loaned to you.

  • Class Rule #4- HAVE FUN!You are making this for you! Your idea, your work!Think of a design/composition which you can accomplish!!!This is YOUR art so make it personal!!

  • PAPER NEVER goes in the garbage. ALL paper is RECYCLABLE.

  • ATTENDANCEAttendance is critical for success in this class. A daily participation grade will be factored into your quarter grade. Poor attendance CAN cause failure if it becomes excessive. Parents will be notified when absences/tardies accrue and a referral may be sent to Counselor/Dean for disciplinary action, up to 3 notices a quarter. NO PASSES will be given for Tardy students to use the restroom or leave the room for any reason.Absent student can view the Daily Objectives at:www.pwhsphoto1.edublogs.org

  • ATTENDANCEALL Excused absences should be made up on the next day student is in class or during their lunch period or after school by appointment. Excused means cleared through the attendance office by a parent or the administration. Unexcused means not cleared by a parent of the administration.

  • CLEAN-UPStudents are responsible for cleaning up all area in which the work everyday. Students will be given the last five minutes of class for clean-up. No passes during clean-up time. No passes will be given for students who clean-up late. Failure to clean-up properly will result in the student being given a Clean-Up appointment to be fulfilled after school. Students will remain in their seats until the bell rings and will be dismissed by the teacher.

  • STUDIO PROCEDURESEach day you should take out your folder from your drawer and keep it in your station.Next step is to read the Daily Objectives on the board. This is a daily checklist, do them in order!!!!Do the Daily Bellringer from the board! Handouts are in the tray or in your drawer.

  • STUDIO PROCEDURESALL students should complete the Bell Ringer assignment at the beginning of each class.These assignments are counted for daily points.Mostly they contain review or opinion questions.Although they are not worth a lot of points, continually not doing them can drastically affect your grade.

    Now that is EASY points!!

  • STUDIO PROCEDURESProjects are assigned typically on Monday and are due on Friday. Students must use the week to take photos (in class or at home), download, edit, and turn in with their self-critique.

  • STUDIO PROCEDURESNotes are assigned every other week. They are typically assigned on Monday and are due on Friday. Some notes will include creation of posters or powerpoints to be made and presented by the students. Or teacher will lecture the Monday following the due date.

  • STUDIO PROCEDURESFaPs come in sets of three. The teacher will instruct and send the photos that need to be fixed typically on every other Monday (opposite of the notes). Students must correct the picture using all knowledge to that point in class.

  • STUDIO PROCEDURESCritiques will start a couple weeks into class. These will typically be at the beginning of class Tuesday (will not take the entire period). Students will first talk about famous works, then old student work, other classes work and then move into talking about each others.

  • STUDIO PROCEDURESGrades are posted in Powerschool before they are returned to the students. Check them weekly!!!! Get the ZEROs out!

  • Why NO Zeros?Assignment #1 = 90/100 pointsAssignment #2 = 0/100 pointsTotal points = 90/200Percentage = 45%This is BELOW failing!!!

  • Fail NOT Zeros?Assignment #1 = 50/100 pointsAssignment #2 = 90/100 pointsTotal points = 140/200Percentage = 70%This is CAN be improved!!!

  • Why NO Zeros?Student #1: Grade = 50% + ??? = passingStudent #2: Grade = 0% + ??? = passingStudent #1: Needs to do 10% extra work to passStudent #2: Needs to do 60% extra work to pass

  • STUDIO PROCEDURESWORK NOT clearly marked with a students NAME and PERIOD # on the project will be graded down. Work deemed needing additional work will be returned to student and a new deadline set.

  • Reading AssignmentsStudents will complete additional reading and written assignments in class on various aspects of the class. All assignments will be done in class with the provided textbooks, using the book that has the same number as your drawer. These assignments may be turned in late for partial credit but ALL late work must be done outside of class time. Better late then a ZERO!!!!

Written assignments will range from 20 points to 50 points, photo projects will be worth 100 points and participation grade will be based upon number of days in grading period.A = 100 - 90%B = 89 - 80%C = 79 - 70%D = 69 - 60%F = 59 - 50%0 = Never turned in for credit/Unexcused Absence1st/3rd Quarter = 2/5 of your grade 40%2nd/4th Quarter = 2/5 of your grade 40%Final Exam = 1/5 of your grade 20%
