Everyday Stewardship

Recognize God in Your Ordinary Moments

What else is there to give when one has already given away their body and

their life? What more can one say or do to demonstrate love for another when

all they have has been given to another? This total giving of self to loved ones

cannot be trumped by flowery words or material gifts that are fleeting. This is

the ultimate in love. This is the love Jesus had for us on the way to his passion,

at the institution of the Holy Eucharist. This is the love he has for us daily in

the celebration of the Mass on altars in every church, in every city, in every

nation on earth. No one can give more. No one can ask for more. This is the

true heart of Christian stewardship.

If you take the time to gaze

upon your God in the simplest

of forms and begin to reflect

on what has actually taken

place with bread and wine

becoming the presence of the

Divine, then you can begin to

understand true humility,

sacrifice, and love. And when

you have the privilege to take

that Real Presence into your

body at the meal where you

are an honored guest, you

become one with the one who

is the embodiment of

stewardship. Then, you must

ask the question of yourself,

"How can I even begin to

reflect the love that I have

encountered at this feast?"

The answer is you can begin

with the simple actions of the

day: where will you go, whom

will you meet, and in what work will you partake? Jesus Christ has shown that

the greatest gift ever given can be disguised in this world in a piece of bread.

By joining your body to his, he can now transform human hearts, not by grand

acts but by everyday acts, by everyday people, practicing Everyday

Stewardship.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT

We are one community nourished and transformed by the Eucharist.

As the body of Christ, we are led by the Holy Spirit to know, love and serve God and one another.

STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD

Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida

Jesus sent two of his disciples into the city to meet a man

who would help them locate the place where they would

prepare for the Passover meal. He said:“Go into the city

and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water.”

Reading this sentence, which identifies the person for

whom the disciples should look, makes me wonder how

we are identified to others.

We tend to describe people by age, height, weight, what

they do or have done to make a living, perhaps even

where they reside or what they drive. All may help

identify someone unknown to another. These descriptions

provide physical details of one type or another that help

us recognize ‘who that someone is’. It does not provide

us any depth of knowledge about the person beneath the

face.

If someone was going to describe you, how would you

choose to be identified? Would you wish to be identified

only in a physical sense, or would you desire to be known

in a deeper, more interior way?

Are you a compassionate individual who is empathetic

toward others whose burdens and cares are great? Can

you celebrate the joy of another without feeling envy or

jealousy?

Are you generous in sharing with others, especially those

who have less? Are you willing to share your precious

gift of time?

“Mother Teresa’s was the face of a woman whose eyes

were difficult to read, fathomless, as if behind them

burned an unseen light: not a soft glow but a fierce,

blistering, scorching conflagration of a light that had

been endured for a lifetime—for two thousand years—in

silence. It was the face of a woman who had so loved the

poor that, at last, she became one of them.”1

Who are you - really?

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos

The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ / Solemnidad del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo

a misa.

As we ponder the reality of the Resurrection

of Christ, some may ask: "If He rose again,

where is He?” To answer this question, we

must understand the multiple presences of

God in the world in which we live.

Even those removed from the Church recognize that being

a Catholic depends upon the presence of the Eucharist in

one’s life. To detached observers, practicing the faith

involves participating in the Mass. To be a "practicing"

Catholic is to go to Mass, and to be "non-practicing" is to

not go to Mass. A non-practicing Catholic might say, “I do

not put my faith into practice because I do not receive the

Eucharist.” This connection between practicing the faith

and the Eucharist is fundamental. To be a Catholic is not

just to pray, to read the Word, to help the poor…. Truly

living the faith is intimately linked with the Mass and all it

entails.

Sometimes Catholics may go to Mass in a routine way,

more by habit than by active devotion. Perhaps the

language used by the priest does not connect or even reach

them. However, that does not affect the immense reality of

the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.

The Church reminds us that the Eucharist is the creator of

fraternity and community. The Eucharist is a point of

arrival and a starting point. For some people, approaching it

can mean an authentic activation of their spiritual life and a

new way of letting go. For others, it means a deep and intimate

encounter with the Lord Who is present in their lives.

The surrender of the

body and blood of

Christ is the greatest

self-donation ever

made. If we would

be grateful to

someone who

donated a physical organ that allowed us to continue living,

how much more grateful we should be to One who for love

gave His whole life and left us His body and blood so that

we can have life in fullness!

Marriage Prep

Marriage, according to the Catechism of the Catholic

Church, Second Edition, is: “A covenant or partnership

of life between a man and woman, which is ordered to the

well-being of the spouses and to the procreation and

upbringing of children. When validly contracted between

two baptized people, marriage is a sacrament.”

* Have you ever thought of sharing the gift of your faith

as husband and wife with couples who are also

considering the Sacrament of Marriage?

* Are you willing to help guide them in their preparation

for married life?

* Can you offer them insights for sharing responsibilities,

respecting and loving one another during “good times and

bad”, and oftentimes sacrificing self for the love of

family?

* Can you share the joys, as well as the challenges of

creating, providing for and nurturing the lives of

children?

* Will you offer them encouragement to continue their

journey of faith, keeping God, His commandments and

sacraments at the center of their lives when they become

one through the blessed Sacrament of Matrimony?

If you feel called to this sharing experience and would

like to pursue the necessary formation through the

Diocese to assist in this Sacrament, please call the Parish

Office at (435) 673-2604 and schedule an appointment

with Father Martin to discuss this opportunity.
