PRINCIPAL’S ADDRESS As we transition back to full face to face teaching, the Principal team would like to thank all of our families for the support and
co-operation through our remote learning period and in maintaining the practice of ‘students who can learn at home must
work at home’.
As a staff we are very much looking forward to students returning, it is the human element and interaction that underpins all
that we do in our day to day business in schools and it is that we have all sorely missed.
Senior students
Over the last two weeks it has been great to see our Year 11 and 12 VCE and VCAL return to school and resume face-to-
face learning. The majority of students are very happy and glad to be back at school. We look forward to seeing the Year 10
students return to school for their full timetable next week, including our VCAL foundation class.
As VCAA have announced the Unit 3 / 4 exam period is to begin the week commencing the 9th of November, 2020¸ the
senior team have worked in conjunction with the curriculum committee to organise the end-of-year timelines for our Year 12
students.
The Unit 3 / 4 Practice English exam will be held on the first Monday of the Term 3 school holidays, the 21st of
September,
The remainder of the practice exams will occur during Week 2 of Term 4.
The senior team encourage the Year 10 – 12 students to keep working hard over the next few weeks in the lead up to school
holidays, before enjoying a much deserved break!
Junior years
With all students returning next week we are very much looking forward to welcoming our year 7-9 students back to on-site
schooling. After a successful period of remote learning we have put in preparations for a return to school for all of our junior
students. Our junior students will learn that there are a few changes at school to ensure we are providing a safe and hygienic
place for everyone. Students will be sanitising their hands at the start of every class and offered the opportunity to wipe down
their tables at the beginning and end of each lesson. All students will be required to bring their own equipment (books,
stationery, calculator, etc.) and a charged computer to school, this is to avoid borrowing of equipment. Throughout the course
of the first week all students who do not already have a lock will receive one to keep all of their belonging safe and secure in
their locker. We understand that many of you will have different feelings about returning to school, but rest assured we are all
in this together and we’ll all support each other through this. On behalf of the junior team we cannot wait to see all of you
return next week!

Learning Plans
To assist 7-10 students in their return to on-site schooling we will continue until the end of term with a consistent teaching and learning approach. The final ‘Block 5’ learning plan will be uploaded to Compass on Tuesday the 9th of June, however, students will complete the block during class with the guidance of their teacher.
Semester 1 Reports will look a little different when they are made available to students and parents at the end of term. They will include feedback on all CATS (Common Assessment Tasks) that were completed in Term 1 and a descriptive assessment of the Victorian Curriculum Standards that were demonstrated by the student during the period of remote learning in Term 2. Students will also provide a reflection on how they utilised their strengths and coped with the challenges of learning from home. – Mrs McQualter
Hygiene
To continue to support the health and wellbeing of all of our students and staff, our school will continue an enhanced cleaning routine and will encourage frequent hand washing and the use of hand sanitiser on entry and exit to class. If your child has allergies or sensitivity to the supplied hand sanitiser, please provide them with a suitable
If your child is ill or is feeling unwell, they must not attend school. They must remain home and seek medical advice. If your child becomes unwell at school it is a requirement that they will be collected.
A reminder the bubble taps have all been disabled as an added health and hygiene precaution. To welcome our students return to school, we have purchased individual drink bottles for every student. The year 11 and 12 students were pretty pleased with their new item this week, so we are sure the 7 – 10s will find them useful too.
Travel advice: back to school
As we have received several queries in relation to V-Line travel, we received advice in regards to train travel from V-Line as follows:
‘As students’ head back to school, V/Line will be running the normal timetable with increased cleaning taking place across the network. We’re cleaning high touch surfaces like door handles, MYKI touch points and handrails regularly and deep-cleaning trains and stations every night.
Here are some tips to help keep students healthy while travelling on our services:
Don't travel if unwell. Wash hands often, including before travel. If possible, carry hand sanitiser on your journey. Sit next to siblings if possible but otherwise keep your distance where you can. Cough into a tissue or elbow. Please ensure you dispose of tissues and rubbish in bins provided at stations. Spread out along the platform. Respect the clearance zone around our staff. Spread out along the platform. Keep doorways clear. Plan ahead. If it’s raining, carry an umbrella so you don’t need to gather under shelters at stops Please note that V/Line staff will not be limiting the number of people on board our services because this is likely to
cause crowding in other areas such as platforms and enforcement is difficult.
We ask students to be please be patient, respectful and kind to each other and our staff – we’re all in this together.
More information about corona-virus and travelling on public transport can be found at: https://www.ptv.vic.gov.au/
more/coronavirus-covid-19/
At school we will remind students of these practices, and if you could also have the discussion with them prior to
Tuesday morning that would also be helpful. Thank you.
Staffing changes
As we have some teachers who will be continuing to work from home, there will be some staffing changes at the commencement of term 3. We will be welcoming Ms Lisa Tullett and Mr Nathan McMillan for the remainder of the year.
For the remainder of this term, where classes have teachers that are working remotely and live streaming classes, there will also be a teacher present in the room to assist and support the students with their work.
Enjoy your long weekend as we all prepare for a full return next week.

AT HOME LEARNING
Our school is a great place to learn
At Trafalgar High School we give our students the opportunity to discover and explore their passions – whether it’s in the arts,
music, sport or science. Victoria’s Respectful Relationships initiative supports school leaders, educators and our school
communities to promote and model respect and equality – and to teach our children how to build healthy relationships,
resilience and confidence.
The Royal Commission into Family Violence identified the critical role that schools have in creating a culture of respect to
change the story of family violence for future generations. From 2016, Respectful Relationships education became a core
component of the Victorian Curriculum from Prep to Year 12.
In addition to the work we do teaching students about building positive and respectful relationships, our role is to also create a
safe space for students, staff and the community. A way we do this is to provide information about help and advice. Below are
contacts for sources of support who can also assist with the process of safety planning –
ORANGE DOOR – 1800 319 354

YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE At this stage Year 10 work experience is planned for the week of December 7th to December 11th, 2020.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to experience work in an industry they are interested in pursuing in the
future. Work experience also assists students in making decisions about their year 11 & 12 subjects and courses.
During term 1 students were asked to complete their Career Action Plan (CAP) on Compass as this assists the
careers team to create work experience packs for the students. Students have also
been reminded about this throughout term 2 remote learning.
WHAT IS WORK EXPERIENCE?
The link below has some further information and benefits of work experience:
https://www.youthcentral.vic.gov.au/jobs-and-careers/volunteering-and-work-experience/what-is-work-experience Work experience is not simply taking on extra shifts in their part-time job, but an immersive program that offers
students the chance to be part of an industry they have an interest in.
EXPLORING OPTIONS
If a student is unsure of what they would like to do, part of the CAP process is to complete an online career quiz. Apologies the
WIRL one stated in the CAP is not working at the moment, but there are many career exploration sites on the Trafalgar High
School webpage:
http://trafalgarhs.vic.edu.au/career-development-resources/ A particularly good one is JobOutlook which provides students with the chance to complete a quiz as well as investigate key
elements of the job such as: education/training needed, salary, future growth, job description, similar jobs.
https://www.joboutlook.gov.au/ Students who completed the Morrisby assessment last year are also encouraged to revisit their accounts for ideas.
BENEFITS
Work experience is something employers value very highly, alongside attitude. In fact, research shows that
completing multiple hours of relevant work experience, sped up the transition to full-time employment by 12 months.
It is easy to understand why – on-the-job experience boosts confidence and helps to build understanding of how
skills translate to the workplace. (FYA 2019)
The careers staff: Jodie Deppeler and Gabrielle Evans are more than happy to answer questions students or parents may have about work experience. Further information will come next term as students make preparations for their work experience placements.

With the current restrictions in place we are unable to have an Information Evening at the school.
In response to this we held a live Facebook session where parent’s questions were answered about the transition from grade 6 into year 7. It’s a great opportunity to get an overview of life at Trafalgar High School. You will get to virtually “meet” our staff, our School Captains and learn about the great programs and curriculum for year 7 2021. If you missed out you can watch the video by following the link below

YEAR 7 2021
Sarah Sneddon and Chiara Gallo have made some cakes for year 8 science as part of their at home learning program. Sarah’s smartie cake is the left photo, and Chiara’s mud cake is the right photo. Great job Sarah & Chiara.
YEAR 8 SCIENCE
Our year 7 students have been lucky enough to have a skipping rope and some skipping activities sent home during at home learning.
The year 7 students would like to thank Ms Mclaurin for ordering and organising these and Donna Noonan and Wombat for packing these and sending them home via post.
Students who have been on-site learning have been practicing their skills during their PASE lessons and writing a reflection about what skills they learnt using their new ropes.
We encourage our year 7 students to bring these along when we return to school so they can practice skipping during break time or during some PASE classes.
