    Introduction

According to a study, there is an

    energy savings potential of 25 X 1012

    KWh/annum (25 Trillion Units/annum)

    reactive power compensation in India.

An unknown, but for sure a great

share of this potential is stilluntapped.

    Power Factor

    Low Power Factor

At AGL DTRs due to Inductive Nature of Motors

    Disadvantages:

    increases KVA demand

    increases line losses

excess system capacity is occupied requires larger capacity equipment

    reduces efficiency of equipment

    reduces line voltage

    Power Factor Correction

Power Factor can be corrected / improvedby adding capacitance

The Power Factor can be brought veryclose to unity

Achieved by installing an appropriate sizeof LT Shunt Capacitor at LV side

    Quantifiable Savings

Among the various advantages of a higherpower factor, we can easily monitor and

    quantify,

    Reduction in line losses

in terms of Millions of Units (MU) saved, bytaking periodic feeder level meter readings

    Maintenance & Monitoring

Viz personnel will periodically check the health of everycapacitor, and replace any defective capacitorsimmediately. Viz has estimated a total requirement ofhundreds of field staff for maintenance and repair of

    capacitors in AP.

Periodic meter readings will be taken at the 11 KV feederlevel, in order to monitor the effectiveness of theinstallations and measure the savings.
