4:00pm Sing Sunday
¶ We Gather for Worship
Welcome and Announcements
Opening Sentences
We meet in the name of God:
God the Father,
God the Son,
God the Spirit:
God is one.
Opening Prayer
Holy God,
holy and strong,
holy and immortal:
have mercy on us.
Holy God,
holy and strong,
holy and immortal:
have mercy on us.
Eternal God, source of all blessing,
help us to worship you
with all our heart and mind and strength;
for you alone are God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
for ever and ever.
Amen.
Hymn
4
1. Father, Lord of all creation,
ground of being, life and love:
height and depth beyond description
only life in you can prove:
you are mortal life's dependence
thought, speech, sight are ours by grace;
yours is every hour's existence,
sovereign Lord of time and space.
2. Jesus Christ, the Man for others,
we, your people, make our prayer:
help us love – as sisters, brothers –
all whose burdens we can share.
Where your name binds us together
you, Lord Christ, will surely be;
where no selfishness can sever
there your love may others see.
3. Holy Spirit, rushing, burning
wind and flame of Pentecost,
fire our hearts afresh with yearning
to regain what we have lost.
May your love unite our action,
never more to speak alone:
God, in us abolish faction,
God, through us your love make known.
Words: Stewart Cross (1928-1989)
Music: Abbot’s Leigh, Cyril Taylor (1907-1991)

¶ We Say Sorry to God
Prayers of Penitence
‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty.’
We long for the fire of God’s cleansing
to touch our unclean lips,
for our guilt to be removed and our sin wiped out.
So we meet Father, Son and Holy Spirit
with repentance in our hearts. cf Isaiah 6 and Revelation 4
We have not always worshipped God, our creator.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
We have not always followed Christ, our Saviour.
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
We have not always trusted in the Spirit, our guide.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
5
May the Father forgive us by the death of his Son
and strengthen us to live in the power of the Spirit
all our days.
Amen.
The Collect Almighty and everlasting God,
you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith,
to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity
and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity:
keep us steadfast in this faith,
that we may evermore be defended from all adversities;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Hymn
1. Father in heaven,
grant to your children
mercy and blessing,
songs never-ceasing;
love to unite us,
grace to redeem us,
Father in heaven,
Father, our God.
2. Jesus, Redeemer,
may we rememb~r
your gracious passion,
your resurrection:
worship we bring you,
praise we shall sing you,
Jesus, redeemer,
Jesus, our Lord.
3. Spirit descending,
whose is the blessing,
strength for the weary,
help for the needy:
sealing Christ's lordship,
blessing our worship,
Spirit descending,
Spirit adored.
Words: Daniel Thambyrajah Niles (1908-1970) Music: Halad, Elena Granada Maquiso (1914-1995), possibly based on a
Philippine folk melody, arranged by Geoff Weaver (b 1943) © Christian Conference of Arts (Ancient & Modern – 271)

¶ We Hear the Word of God
Reading – John 16.12-15
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them
now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak
on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to
come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the
Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.’
This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Hymn
1. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;
holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
2. Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert and art and evermore shalt be.
3. Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy, there is none beside thee
perfect in power, in love, and purity.
4. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
all thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;
holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessed Trinity!
Words: Reginald Heber (1783-1826)
Music: Nicaea, John Bacchus Dykes (1823-1876)

¶ We Affirm our Faith Let us declare our faith in God.
We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family
in heaven and on earth is named.
We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith,
and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us
with power from on high.
We believe in one God;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. cf Ephesians 3
Amen.
Hymn
1. Father, Lord! We give you adoration,
who, through the gift of life, yourself have given.
Hold us in light,
keep clear our sight,
give us the vision of your glorious way.
2. Jesus, Son! You taught by your example,
that we on earth should live to sing your love.
Teach us to pray,
help us to stay
close to the way which you to us have shown.
3. Spirit, God! You came to the disciples,
filled them with love and light for all to see.
Keep us aware,
through love and care,
you are the way by which we live our lives.
8
4. Holy Three! and greater than the heavens,
power overwhelming, greater than the earth.
Save us through love,
and, from above,
your way will prove to us the life oflove.
Words: Peter Nardonne (b 1965)
Music: Hurst Green, Peter Nardonne (b 1965)

¶ We Pray to God
Prayers of Intercession
High and holy God,
Father, Son and Spirit robed in majesty,
Lord of heaven and earth,
we pray that you will bring justice, faith and salvation to all peoples.
God of love
hear our prayer.
You chose us in Christ to be your people
and to be the temple of your Holy Spirit;
we pray that you will fill your Church with
vision and hope.
God of love
hear our prayer.
Your Spirit enables us to cry, ‘Abba! Father!’,
affirms that we are fellow-heirs with Christ
and pleads for us in our weakness;
we pray for all who are in need or distress.
God of love
hear our prayer.
In the baptism and birth of Jesus,
you have opened heaven to us
and enabled us to share in your glory:
the joy of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit
from before the world was made.
9
May your whole Church, living and departed,
come to a joyful resurrection in your city of light.
God of mercy,
you know us and love us
and hear our prayer:
keep us in the eternal fellowship of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Amen.
Hymn
1. Father God, we worship you,
make us part of all you do.
As you move among us now,
we worship you.
2. Jesus King, we worship you,
help us listen now to you.
As you move among us now,
we worship you.
3. Spirit pure, we worship you,
with your fire our zeal renew.
As you move among us now,
we worship you.

The Lord’s Prayer
We praise the Father,
and pray in the words of Christ himself.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come; thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.
10
Hymn
1. Come, let us sing of a wonderful love,
tender and true;
out of the heart of the Father above,
streaming to me and to you:
wonderful love
dwells in the heart of the Father above.
2. Jesus, the Saviour, this gospel to tell,
joyfully came;
came with the helpless and hopeless to dwell,
sharing their sorrow and shame;
seeking the lost,
saving, redeeming at measureless cost.
3. Jesus is seeking the wanderers yet;
why do they roam?
Love only waits to forgive and forget;
home! weary wanderer, home!
Wonderful love
dwells in the heart of the Father above.
4. Come to my heart, O thou wonderful love,
come and abide,
lifting my life till it rises above
envy and falsehood and pride;
seeking to be
lowly and humble, a learner of thee.
Words: Robert Walmsley (1851-1905)

¶ The Conclusion
Concluding Prayer
O God our mystery,
you bring us to life,
call us to freedom,
and move between us with love.
May we so participate
in your dance of trinity
that our lives may resonate with you,
now and for ever.
11
The Blessing
May God keep us in all our days.
May Christ shield us in all our ways.
May the Spirit bring us healing and peace.
May God the Holy Trinity drive all darkness from us
and pour upon us blessing and light.
Amen.
Hymn
1. Hallow the Father's Name!
Through all our hopes and fears
his heart of love is still the same
amid the changing years:
who formed us in his grace
and keeps us by his power,
who calls his church to seek his face
and serve this present hour.
2. Glory to Christ the Son,
the Prince of life who died,
the Servant who salvation won,
the Saviour glorified!
Teach us to hear his call
and tell his truth abroad,
who gave himself to save us all
and reigns our risen Lord.
3. Welcome the Spirit blest,
whose fruitful gifts increase
the grace of God made manifest
in love and joy and peace!
A new resolve impart
to serve our neighbours' need,
intent to bind the broken heart
and see the captive freed.
4. Honour and power and might,
dominion, love and praise,
be unto him who reigns in light
through everlasting days:
from earth to realms above,
from sea to starlit sky,
exalt one Trinity of love
in majesty on high!
Words: Timothy Dudley-Smith (b 1926)

Dear Friends, I can't thank you
enough for the wonderful send off and
the most generous cheque you
presented to me at my leaving service
at All Saints. It's been such a privilege
to get to know you all and very
humbling that you have allowed me to
be alongside you to share in your
times of joy as well as in more difficult
and painful times in your lives. A
heartfelt thank you also to all the

Clock Restoration
Appeal
A fundraising appeal to preserve the
historic clock in Oakham church tower
has been launched with a front page
article in the Rutland Mercury. The
clock is an important timepiece,

regarded as the finest clockmaker in
19th century Britain, and is now in
need of restoration and upgrading. For
more details about the clock and the
appeal please see the website.
Icons for All
An Icon writing retreat takes place
in June and July at Ketton, led by Revd

life. Icons for All is a small group of
Iconographers led by Revd Ian
Holdsworth who are committed to
establishing Icons within the
mainstream of UK Church life. The
course runs over five Saturdays of
work and prayer – 4/11/18 June and

10am to 5pm. Traditional materials
will be used, including 22ct Gold,
Earth and Mineral pigments on a
linden wood panel covered with
