Over the course of the evening there will be the opportunity to try an instrument and participate in a variety of workshops suitable for all ages, hear about our programmes for 2018 and 2019 and enjoy short musical performances from participants in our summer programmes throughout the County. About Music Generation dlr Music Generation believes in every child and young person’s musical potential and their innate artistry, that it is every child and young person’s right to have the choice of access and the chance to participate as a musical citizen and that music doesn’t just change lives, it transforms lives. In September 2017, Music Generation dlr was selected for participation in Music Generation, Ireland’s national performance music education programme initiated by Music Network and co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds and the Department of Education and Skills and Local Music Education Partnerships. Locally, Music Generation dlr is managed by dlr Music Education Partnership (MEP), led by dlr County Council in partnership with Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board, TUSLA, Southside Partnership dlr, Blackrock Education Centre, IADT, UCD and Crosscare. Music Generation dlr will begin the implementation of programmes for children and young people across the county of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, commencing in September 2018.

MusicCumann na nÓg Traditional Music EnsembleLevel 3 5.00pm-6.00pmA group of talented traditional musicians featuring among their ranks a number of winners of prestigious national competitions, members of Cumann na nÓg have also performed at the Temple Bar Tradfest and events in the Isle of Skye, Glasgow, San Sebastian and Sitges.

Orchestral AgesOutside in Moran Park 6.30pm-7.30pmNewpark Concert Orchestra joins forces with local youth groups for this exciting new project ‘Orchestral Ages’ to celebrate and encourage intergenerational music making. The newly composed work, A Day by the Sea, commissioned through the Arts Office and composed by Vincent Kennedy, will be unveiled to the public at this year’s Culture Night in dlr LexIcon.With thanks to: Kilternan School of Music, The Cassidy Academy, Rachel’s Music Centre, Churchtown School of Music, Newpark Music Centre and Rathdown Music School.

Guitar Concert with Drazen DerekLevel 3 7.45pm-8.30pmA founding member of The Café Orchestra, as a soloist, Drazen performs a range of styles including Jazz, Classical, Avant-garde, Eastern European and Latin. He has performed and toured across Europe, the US and South America with international artists. Enjoy an eclectic mix of repertoire for Culture Night.

Art Workshops in The Project RoomPrint Workshops with Kim JenkinsonThe Project Room, Level 3 5.00pm-8.00pm, Ages 3-6yrsJoin us for some creative fun in this printing workshop for younger children. We will be experimenting with various simple printing tecniques such as mono printing, styrofoam printing, printing with found objects and everyone will take home their very own print on the night. Weaving Project with Tunde TothThe Project Room, Level 3 4.00pm-8.00pm, Age 4+Using paper, thread, fabrics, ribbons and an array of recycled materials participants will create striking woven pieces and have the opportunity to contribute to a large scale art work. Suitable for everyone from 4 years of age.

Both art workshops are drop-in.

Storytelling for Families with Fiona DowlingChildren’s Library, Level 4 5.00pm/6.00pm/7.00pm/8.00pmFiona tells to audiences of all ages with energy and humour. Her performances weave together stories, drawing, song and even sometimes dance!

ExhibitionSea Change IADT: 21 years of art, film and animation.Municipal Gallery, Level 3 5.00pm-9.00pmThis anniversary exhibition includes contributions from alumni in the specialist fields of art, film and animation. The works in this exhibition have been selected by Oonagh Young to highlight the diversity of artistic practices that have been developed over twenty one years by graduates.
