About the Zurich Sessions
W hen the folks at Bulldogfish Productions approached me, I was fascinated by the idea of the Zurich Sessions as a platform for
bringing together experimental musical setups. The Zurich Sessions don’t follow the approach of conventional pop music productions of today’s music industry. Instead, the ‘session nature’ of the recordings allows for an individual artist to contribute with his or her individual skill, style, passion and personality. You don’t find this method of recording very often these days – and this is why I became interested in the concept. My very special thanks to Dani Schaub, the executive producer, for keeping us all together focused on the same song sheet… and of course to all the musicians who joined me from near and far and graced me with their incredible talent: Guys, it is an absolute privilege to call you my friends!
I wrote the songs on this album over the course of several years and at various stages of my creative work. It has always been important to me to write music and lyrics that my audience could easily connect with – both musically as well as emotionally. The songs selected for this album tell of true friendship, trust and love that transcend time and space. Of the desire to be needed and the commitment to always stand by someone. Of the romance of distance and the melancholy that resides in proximity. Of the future that is here and the past that is yet to come.
Call My Name is my newest composition and intended as nothing more than a catchy folk-pop song, inviting listeners to sing along and become part of the Zurich Sessions. Old Friend is one of my personal long-time favorites and digs a bit deeper. It’s more thoughtful – certainly not amongst my most lighthearted writing ever – with a haunting groove that plows steadily through uncertainty and sadness, ending in a crescendo of confidence. Restless is one of the most personal stories I’ve ever told – and I appreciated the respectful stance the band adopted to make telling this story for me a wonderful and unexposed experience.
These songs have some sort of an auto-biographical meaning to me. But they’re subtle enough to leave plenty of room for my audience to personally connect to the music. The songs aren’t meant to be heavily analyzed or interpreted – they rather sail along smoothly, elegantly and pleasantly such as the Zurich Sessions did as a whole!
I much appreciated the state-of-the-art environment and professional management at the 571 Recording Studios where international music history is regularly being written. A big thank you to the teams involved front- and back-of-house for their important contribution. Peter Baumgartner

Verse 1Some place in a distant landWhere strangers aren’t strangeThe only constant in my lifeIs a life of constant change
One day I’ll be looking backNo sign of regretBut all the years I left behindGetting harder to accept
Chorus ICall my nameMillions may respond to the sameBut you know where to go
Call my nameThousand miles away from where you cameBut I know where to go
Verse 2Far away from my comfort zoneNowhere near the markA simple word of love and trustAnd a bright light fills the dark
A perfect time on a perfect dayNo chances left asideThe joy of simply going strongAnd a future shining bright
Chorus II & IIICall my nameMillions may respond to the sameBut you know where to go
Call my nameThousand miles away from where you cameBut I know where to go
Call my nameCounting countless tears is not my gameNo, no, no, that’s not my gameWhen we know where to go
Call my name…Yes we know where to go

Chorus ILike the old friendThat came along and no one was waiting
Verse 3Guiding you to the place you belongSomething you’ve been waiting for so longLaughing about the dangers of lifeWhile healing the wounds from a knife
Verse 4And it’s a wind of uncertainty that blowsOut of which understanding will growGrowing as a sign of timeTime that can give, or take and decline
Chorus IILike the old friendThat came along and no one was waiting
Chorus IIILike the old friendThat came along and no one was waitingAnd the whole worldIs losing all the words he’s been sayingAnd this old tuneThat in his ears – it is still playingMy old friend
