Occupational Protective Gloves Part 3: Protection against mechanical risksThe purpose of this Standard is to provide users and manufacturers with requirements for gloves intended to provide protection against mechanical injury including: abrasion, blade cut, puncture, tear or impact cut. Hand protection must meet the protection parameters detailed in SDS, safe work method statements or job safety assessments. The most common performance indicators for hand protection are as follows:EN388 applies to gloves that protect against physical and mechanical hazards. It specifies requirements for resistance to damage from abrasion, perforation, tearing and cutting.EN374-3 tests gloves for permeation resistance to chemicals with each combination of chemical/glove classifies according to resistance time. Under the standard AS/NZS2161.10 (EN374-3), the symbol describes a permeation performance level equal to or greater than 30 minutes for a group of 12 industrial chemicals (see right).Chemical gloves should be checked routinely for leaks and rejected gloves destroyed immediately.

Powered Air Respirator

•ComplieswithAS/NZS1716:2012PAPRProflow SC 160 incorporates a waist-mounted blower unit supplying filtered air to the facepiece through an 80cm EPDM breathing hose. A NiMH battery is encased in a polyurethane casing with a microprocessor controlled charger for charging. The blower unit features a DC motor powered radial fan. A microprocessor calculates the power required to maintain the set flow rate and automatically adjusts the fan speed to maintain the required air supply. If the airflow rate falls below the minimum 160L/min, an audible warning sounds. A fully charged battery has an operation time of around 6-7 hours.The Promask respirator features a wide T-Bar sealing edge, transparent inner mask with two inhalation valves, 5-point adjustable rubber harness with quick release plastic buckles, speech diaphragm and panoramic visor. The Promask PAPR respirator features a side fit hose connection with 90 degree elbow fitting, enabling the user to wear the respirator with little or no intrusion from blower hoses.

A competent person should undertake an appropriate risk assessment to determine exposure levels and working conditions.

Standard: AS/NZS 1800:1998 recommends that in general terms the Safety Helmet should be replaced every three years based upon industry testing. Each Helmet has an issue date sticker on the inside of the helmet for the wearers to record their name and first date of use.Safety helmets and components should be visually inspected for dents, cracks, scratches or other damage that may reduce the degree of safety originally provided. Helmets showing damage or deterioration to the shell should be immediately disposed of.

AS/NZS 1800:1998 Occupational Protective Helmets – Selection, Care And UseThis Standard sets out recommended practices for the selection, use and maintenance of occupational protective helmets meeting the requirements AS/NZS 1801 for head protection in building work, construction, general industry, underground working, mining, quarrying, forestry, bushfire fighting, high temperature workplaces and other occupations with similar hazards.
