start. Thanks to everyone who supported the Book Fair and to those who
attended the first Spirit Night event. Please check our calendar on the last page
for upcoming events.
Parent/Teacher conferences are coming up on October 19th. See the information
on page two and expect a Connect Ed email message with more details soon.
Please make sure that we have your email address so that you receive important
notices and reminders. You may also want to make sure that your spam folder
isn’t blocking our emails 😊.
We will have a Halloween parade on October 31st at 1:30 p.m. Parents are
welcome to view the parade from the loop that circles our school.
Sincerely,

Federal Impact Aid Survey
On Friday, September 29, 2017, your child brought home a Federal Impact Aid Survey
form. Please assist us by filling out the information requested on the form and
returning it to Pershing Hill Elementary. The U.S. Department of Education is now
allowing a multiple child form. Therefore, AACPS has designed a form that will allow
two children’s names for your convenience. Should you have more than two children,
please utilize a second form that you can either obtain from school or download from
the AACPS website at www.aacps.org/students. Also, please note that the complete
address of the parent/guardian’s employer if they work on Federal property, the
complete address of the Federal property on which they work, and each survey form
must be signed and dated by the parent/guardian.
We will also be using our Connect-Ed Automated Telephone Notification System to
remind you about the significance of completing and returning this survey. The school
system receives approximately $2 million in funding from the Federal government in
support of our children after the forms are processed. Thank you in advance for your
support and assistance. Should you have any questions regarding this information,
please call 410-222-5200.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday, October 19th from 8:30 a.m. – 3:00
p.m. A link will be sent to parents through our Connect-Ed email system so that they can
schedule a conference through Sign-up Genius. Conferences will be scheduled on a first-come,
first-served basis. Teachers will not be able to meet with all parents on October 19th. If you are
unable to schedule a conference on that date, please contact your child’s teacher.
Quarterly Recognitions
There are four marking periods each school year. When report cards come out, there will be
four specific recognitions of students. Each recognition is explained below:
Principal’s Honor Roll
Students in grades two through five are eligible for the Principal’s Honor Roll recognition. In-
order to meet the criteria for Principal’s Honor Roll, students must:
• Have all A’s
• Can have no “Emerging” or “Needs Development” grades under “Expected Student
Behaviors” or in their cultural arts classes
Honor Roll
Students in grades two through five are eligible for the Honor Roll recognition. In-order to
meet the criteria for Honor Roll, students must:
• Have all A’s and B’s
• Students may have one (1) C as long it is offset by an A
• Students cannot have any “Emerging” or “Needs Development” grades under “Expected
Student Behaviors” or in their cultural arts classes
General of the Quarter
Students in grades 1 through 5 are eligible for this award. The General of the Quarter Award
recognizes students who receive “consistently demonstrating” grades in all of their cultural arts
classes and in the “expected student behaviors” categories of the report card. These students
will have demonstrated respect for themselves, others, learning, and property throughout the
school during the marking period.
Perfect Attendance
To receive a perfect attendance award, students cannot have any absences, tardies, or early
dismissals during the marking period.

Art News…
Mrs. Long and Miss Morgan are looking forward to all the fun projects, activities, and field
trips we have planned for art students this year. Most art students are already so close to
completing their first art project. All completed artworks from Mrs. Long’s classes will be
hanging in the hallways once they have been graded. Keep your eyes peeled for amazing art on
your next visit.
Please check your child’s take home folders regularly for important information we will be
sending home at the end of month about our upcoming Square 1 Art Fundraiser. We are very
excited to bring Square 1 back to Pershing Hill for a second year. Also, a flyer titled, “Art
Supply Donation List” will be coming soon too. There are some super easy things that families
can do at home to help support Pershing Hill artists. Stay tuned for more info!
Thank you so much parents and students for your support of the arts! Please come see Mrs.
Long if you are interested in helping or volunteering in the art classroom in any way. We can
always use an extra hand. We have a wide variety of tasks that volunteers with or without art
experience can help with, everyone is welcome.
