Bayonne to Unveil Utility Box Art in Bergen Point on Thursday, October 12Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the City of Bayonne will hold an unveiling cere-

mony for utility box art on Thursday, October 12, at 11:00 a.m. The event will take placeat the Bridge Art Gallery, 199 Broadway, in Bayonne’s Bergen Point neighborhood. Bay-onne’s Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ) has been funding utility box art that has been pre-pared by six local artists. Mayor Davis said, “Bayonne’s UEZ has worked to make ourcommercial areas more attractive for shoppers and visitors. By placing art on utilityboxes in our commercial areas, the UEZ is improving the visual appeal of our commu-nity. I would like to thank the UEZ and all of the participating artists for making thishappen.”Six artists have participated in the program. They are Samantha Llanes, Stephanie

Petersen, Jeff Ware, Maria Lupianez, Tiffany Patrice, and Gary Wyans.Samantha Llanes earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Animation at the School of

Visual Arts. Her professional experience includes creating stage design for children’splays, often using children ages 6 to 12 in the set-building process. She teaches story-telling through set design and art. Her skills include layout and background digital col-oring, pen and ink, illustration, layout pencil line work, conceptual art, and group work.As part of the UEZ program, she turned a rusty, old utility box into a work of art at 8thStreet and Broadway.Stephanie Petersen is a photographer and graphic artist. She grew up in Bayonne,

and is raising two sons here with her husband. She loves Bayonne and thinks it is agreat place to raise her children. Stephanie is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts.She has worked with top cosmetic and fragrance companies to create and install graphicimages for special events and product launches. At 8th Street, she has created art withheavy-duty, outdoor commercial-grade vinyl that is intended to attract viewers.Jeff Ware is a resident of Bayonne, and has been employed by the Bayonne Department

of Public Works for ten years. He has transformed two fire pull-boxesinto a work of art. He has worked on several murals in Bayonne andNew York. He is happy to see that Bayonne is transforming and ismaking Broadway more appealing. He believes that art brings beautyto a community. Jeff is honored to have the opportunity to take partin this project.Maria Lupianez is a resident of Bayonne and an artist. She painted

a utility box at 7th Street and Broadway. She is a mother of ten and afull-time student who found the time to transform that utility box.Maria enjoys being creative and is a lover of art. After giving birth recently to a baby boy,she gave herself two weeks of rest, then went outside to create a work of art.Tiffany Patrice has always loved being creative. A lover of all art, fashion, drawing,

painting, music, writing, and everything in between. If there is anything creative goingon, she wants to be part of it. Once she realized that she could combine her love of artwith fashion, she set her sights on New York City. With a fashion degree in hand, she lefther Midwest roots for the Big Apple. While working in the corporate fashion world atsome of the top fashion companies, she continued to pursue her great interest in art.After much soul-searching and a strong desire to follow her dreams, she decided toreturn to her true passions - drawing and painting. With much excitement, Tiffany de-cided to leave the corporate world and follow her artistic dreams.Gary Wyans is a Jersey City artist and loves to have the opportunity to participate in the

utility box art project. He has a daughter who lives in Bayonne, so he appreciated the op-portunity to submit an art proposal to the Bayonne UEZ. Gary was happy to be chosen forthe utility box project, so that his daughter could see his art in Bayonne and be proud. Hehas done several murals and art on numerous utility boxes in Jersey City, from Downtownup to the Heights. In Bayonne, he has painted a large utility box right off of Cottage Street.
