AMFA SYLLABUS –
www.albertamusicfestival.org – Please refer to
page 1 of the AMFA syllabus for a listing of all the 2016
changes and page 2 for rules & regulations.
All changes are also highlighted in yellow in the syllabus.
Of particular note: A. For Musical theatre: “The following
THREE stage props will be provided by the festival: chair
(or rehearsal block), table, coat rack. No other stage props
are allowed.”
B. The format for RECORDED CHORAL CLASS entries in
Provincials is now MP3.
MUSICAL THEATRE LIST – The AMFA website now has a
listing of popular Musical Theatre repertoire which classifies
each selection as Up-tempo or Ballad. Selections performed
from this list must be entered in the classification specified. For
selections not on the list, use your judgment.
LOCAL ADDENDA and the DANCE SYLLABUS are available on the
festival website at www.camrosemusicfestival.ca
ON-LINE REGISTRATION: THIS IS THE PREFERRED
METHOD OF REGISTRATION: we encourage you to use it
if at all possible. You can enter the information early and
modify it as necessary up to the entry deadline. On-line
payment with PayPal is again available, but is optional. If you
need assistance with this, please contact the festival secretary.
For this year there will still be paper entry options which you
can print from the website, but we hope in future years to use
only online registration.
A huge Thank You to the City of Camrose! They have granted
the Festival one of their FREE DAYS at the Lougheed
Performing Arts Centre, which we will use for Dance. Along
with a $2000 monetary grant from the city, this is a wonderful
boost to the festival.
GRAND CONCERT Tickets– We are delighted that thanks to
support from Camrose Kiwanis Club the Lougheed PAC will
again be the venue for the Grand Concert on Tuesday, April 11.
To prevent a line-up at the door, tickets will be available a few
weeks ahead of time at www.camroselive or at the box office.

Festival Schedule
The scheduling process should be completed by early March.
The following procedure will be used to inform entrant of their
performance times:
The rough schedule will be emailed to teachers as soon as it is
finalized, hopefully by early March. We request that teachers
forward this information their students immediately upon
receiving it.
The Festival Secretary must be informed of any schedule
conflicts within a week to 10 days, before the program goes
to the printer.
Once the program has gone to print no changes will be
allowed, only cancellations. Printed programs will be
available 1 week before Festival.
Entry Form Tips
1. Double check your entries carefully! : Information may
appear in the program exactly as you enter it!!!!!!!!
Please include all information asked for. Online entries will not
register if certain blanks are not filled.
Use complete selection titles, including, where appropriate, opus
numbers, movement names and/or numbers, musicals from which
Musical Theatre numbers are drawn, and names of arrangers as well
as composers.
2. To help avoid scheduling conflicts please indicate any band, choir,
ensemble dance group etc., with which a soloist is performing, and other
solo classes he/she entered in other disciplines (e.g. piano, violin). For
internet entries use the “Special requests” box.
3. Performance time must be given so that ample schedule time can be
provided...especially crucial for advanced students. Timing should be to the
nearest minute.
4. LATE ENTRIES will NOT be accepted!
Common Errors on Entry Forms
l. Incomplete Class titles: omitting
genre (e.g. Piano Solo, Vocal Duet,) or
age/grade group (e.g. 12 & under, or
Grade 5)
2. Incomplete song titles: opus
numbers and movement numbers or
names are required where applicable,
also names of Musicals or Revues from
which Musical Theatre selections come
must be included.
3. Composer’s or arranger's names
omitted.
4. Confusion about Concert and
Recital classes: -
-Concert Class selections must all be
of the same style of music.
-Recital class selections must be of 3
different styles.
5. Errors in fees: please note the new
fee structure. Take special note of Solo
Concert and Solo Recital Class fees.

with the “Rules for Recorded Competition” outlined on page 81 of the AMFA

be responsible for their own recording arrangements, with the recording
witnessed by a member of the Camrose Festival Committee. Please consult
with the Festival Secretary. Note: the format for entries is now MP3 only.

More Helpful Hints
Buy music early: If you will need an
extra copy of your music for the
adjudicator, arrange for it weeks ahead.
Art Songs: Remember that the language
of the art song, NOT the language of the
composer, will determine in which class
an Art Song should be entered.
Rules and Regulations: Please take
time to read the “Rules Governing Local
Festivals” on pages 2 and 3 of the
Provincial Syllabus, especially noting
rules regarding copyright. Published
copies must be provided for the
adjudicator.
Important note re copyright rules:
Legally downloaded music must have
the receipt attached or written
permission from the publisher or
composer. If an entrant comes with a
downloaded copy without a receipt there
will be a waiver form available to be
signed by the parent or teacher affirming
that the music has been legally copied.
ACCOMPANISTS ARE REQUIRED
TO DISPLAY A PUBLISHED COPY
OF THE MUSIC ON THE PIANO even
if it is being played from a photocopy to
facilitate page turns.
