The recipe for Pepsi, the soft drink, was first developed in the 1890s by a pharmacist and industrialist, Caleb Bradham, who named it "Pepsi-Cola" in 1898

Ownership of this company traded hands several times throughout the 1920s and 1930s, and in the early 1960s its product line expanded with the creation of Diet Pepsi and purchase of Mountain Dew

PepsiCo was formed in 1965 with the merger of the Pepsi-Cola Company and Frito Lay, Inc.

As of 2009, 19 of PepsiCo's product lines generated retail sales of more than $1 billion each, and the company’s products were distributed across more than 200 countries, resulting in annual net revenues of $43.3 billion

The Coca Cola Company is a beverage retailer, manufacturer and marketer of non-alcoholic beverage concentrates and syrups.

The company is best known for its flagship product Coca-Cola, invented by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton in 1886.

The Coca-Cola formula and brand was bought in 1889 by Asa Candler who incorporated The Coca-Cola Company in 1892.

According to the Annual Report, the company sells beverage products in more than 200 countries. The report further states that of the more than 50 billion beverage servings of all types consumed worldwide every day, beverages bearing the trademarks owned by or licensed to Coca-Cola account for approximately 1.5 billion

Of these, beverages bearing the trademark “Coca-Cola" or "Coke" accounted for approximately 78% of the Company's total gallon sales

Coke went public in 1919 under the leadership of Robert Woodruff, they were listed on the New York Stock Exchange at $40.00 per share.

Pepsi, The stock of its parent company, PepsiCo is traded on the NYSE under the stock symbol PEP. In addition to its parent company, The Pepsi Bottling Group is a separate corporate entity, traded under the symbol PBG. Pepsi went public in 1941.
