The loyalists were people in the colonies who were loyal to KingGeorge the III.The Tory were the name given to the British soldiers by thecolonists. The soldiers were well trained and had provisions,

however did not know the land. The loyalists were mistreated by the colonists because the colonistsfelt they didn t belong there, so the loyalists were mistrusted andinsultedAfter the war was over, the loyalists either fled to Canadaor Britain. Historians think there were about 80,000loyalists left, and because they were the wealthier class, the economy suffered severely.

BE AN AMERICAN

The American patriots were for the new,

independent America. They wanted to make anew country for themselves away from Britishrule.

They were poorly trained soldiers, and for themost part had little money or experience withreading and writing.

However they knew the land and were devotedto their cause. They also had the French as allies, financially and politically.

Q . Could the revolution have been prevented?

The revolution couldn t have been prevented because at some point the colonies were going to realizethe tyranny of the British rule. Once the colonies realized this a revolution would be inevitable.

Q . If so, when were the major turning points?

The turning point with the biggest effect was the interactions between the colonists and the Britishduring the French and Indian war. Other turning points the acts put on colonial trade and the end of salutary neglect.

Q . What were the underlying reasons for the call of independence?

Almost all of the underlying reasons for the call of independence were related to the Britishgovernment making decisions concerning the colonies without any colonial representation. This

taxation without representation includes acts like the stamp act, sugar act and tea act.

Yes, the war was a movement to end British tyranny and give the citizens their natural rights of lifeliberty and the pursuit of happiness.
