Pentecost Sunday
Dear brothers and sisters,
Blessed be God who has allowed us to open our three parishes right before the
great celebration of Pentecost. We hope that the Holy Spirit will abundantly pour
out his gifts on all of you and your families in this difficult time that we all have to
live through.
Our collaborative was granted permission to reopen last Thursday, May 20, when we were able to meet the re-
quirements established by the Governor and the Archdiocese itself. These rules and requirements are especially
aimed at ensuring the safety of all who come to celebrate the Eucharist in our parishes.
The key of the whole success of our reopening was that we were able to meet with the Tri-Parish Council via
Zoom every day for one hour at least for updates. The members of the council did a great job to find the right
people to do the cleaning of the churches and to prepare the seating arrangement. We made a rehearsal withy
the volunteers, one in each parish on Saturday morning. Since our parishes rely so much on volunteers, it was
quite easy to put them to work, but we are still in need of more people who may want to cooperate to maintain
the order and security in our celebrations.
Our three parishes have been thoroughly cleaned, and a disinfectant suggested by authorities is being used to
ensure all surfaces are germ-free. Special care has been taken to disinfect the benches and kneelers where you
are sitting. After each mass a volunteer carefully disinfects the places where someone has been sitting. The
pews are marked so that a good safety distance can be maintained. St. Mary’s can welcome up to 120 people;
St. Thomas’ up to 140; and OL of Lourdes’ up to 190 people, being the parish with the largest space. A volun-
teer always keeps count of the people who arrive so that this allowed number is not exceeded.
Our safety procedures and hygiene are working very well. When parishioners enter the church they are all
asked to remove their gloves (if they are wearing any), to wash their hands and to wear a face mask. After that,
the volunteers ask you to sit in a designated spot.
Regarding online masses, our idea is to help people who are most vulnerable and who cannot attend mass. Un-
til our parishes are completely reopened, all our broadcasts on our YouTube Channel (St. Thomas Aquinas
Parish) will be done from Saint Thomas:
- Sundays, Mass in English at 10 am and Mass in Spanish at 12:30 pm.
- Monday to Friday: Masses in English at 12:00 pm.
- Masses during the week in Spanish at 7:00 pm (only Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.)
- Divine Mercy Chaplet bilingual; every day at 3:00pm.
- Rosary in Spanish: Sundays at 8:30pm.
During the next few weeks, if there is someone who is unable to come to Mass and would like to receive the
Eucharist or the Sacrament of Reconciliation, please contact the rectory, and one of the priests will contact
you.
Finally, I remind you that the financial needs of the parishes are extreme. I ask that you be generous with your
contributions. People who do not come to mass may continue to contribute by sending a check payable to your
parish (to any of the three), but to the address of Saint Thomas Aquinas (97 South Street, Jamaica Plain, MA
02130). Another way is to use the online methods found on our website catholicjproxbury.com. The most vul-
nerable people can even ask us to go to their houses to collect their contributions, if they call the rectory.
Thank you for your support! See you soon! Pray for us! Fr. Carlos and Fr. Andrea.
Queridos hermanos y hermanas,
Muchas gracias. ¡Nos vemos pronto! ¡Oren por nosotros! P. Carlos y P. Andrea.
