Summer Reading Adventure
Welcome to PENGUINO 3.0!
We are so excited to announce PENGO/PENGUINO 3.0 for our Penguin Pals Summer Reading
Program! Again, this summer, we invite you and your child to explore all that reading has to offer. We
have created an amazing PENGO/PENGUINO game board for our Pengwinners to complete.
The PENGO/PENGIUNO game board works just like a BINGO board. Just place a sticker on the box
when you’ve completed the activity. We challenge you to get four corners, complete a row (horizontal,
vertical, diagonal), or for the ultimate challenge – blackout! Bring your winning boards in the first week
of school for the ultimate summer reading prize. We will have an all school READ-A-BRATION! You will
want to be a part of the prize! Hint……tons of fun colors!
Some of the reading challenges will be easy and independent to attain, while others will require an adult’s
help. Whatever you can complete on the board will take you on an adventure! Feel free to be creative
and come up with your own reading challenges. Just add them to your plastic sleeve.
Once again, all the books on the K-2 Picture Book Board are the Star of the North book award
nominations from this year. The 3-5 Board includes both the Star of the North books as well as the
Maud Hart Lovelace chapter book award nominations. We will again vote on our favorite books during
the 2020-2021 school year. Your challenge is to read a book and do the activity that goes along with it.
The board is color coordinated, and the activity and book have the same color and are adjacent to each
other.
Also new this year, please put all your amazing work in the sleeve your PENGO/PENGUINO board
came in. We are excited for you to share all your activities when we see you our first week of school.
All the books are available at the public libraries for pick-up and available on-line for your convenience.
Please check out our school website for additional reading resources. We also have at least one copy of
each book in the atrium that will be available for check out over the summer. These copies will be
available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00am-1:00pm during the summer. Just pop into
the atrium, find the book you’d like, sign it out in the binder, and return within two weeks. One book
can be checked out at a time by each child. Any books that aren’t returned by the first week of school
will need to be replaced by the family. Thank you so much for giving every child the opportunity to read
this summer.
In addition to the award books, each student will have the opportunity to check book over the
summer. These can be traded in during the summer during the atrium times listed above. There are
also sets of books available in the atrium, so students can have a book club if they’d like!
We hope you enjoy hanging out with a great book this summer!
Happy reading!
