A pedagogical drawing is a form of visual skill that makes use of marking materials like ink, felt
pens, sketch pens, markers, pencils, crayons, charcoal or chalk and
support material for such a drawing as writing-paper or available boards to aid learning.
Temporary pedagogical drawings may be made on a blackboard, whiteboard or display-board or videograhed.
For a teacher, it is the simplest and most efficient means of communicating through visual symbols in a semi-concrete way.
In the light of the relatively easy availability of basic pedagogical drawing material, pedagogical must be promoted as most desirable visual medium for teachers for classroom instruction.
Visual symbols are simple recognizable representations of direct reality, which come in the form of signs and symbols as semi-concrete experiences in learning . The different kinds of visual symbols are line drawings with minimum strokes, implied drawings, continuous drawing, structure-cum-strokes drawings, stick drawing, sketches, cartoons, comics or strip drawing, diagrams, charts. graphs, maps, and posters.
Rules of Thumbs in Using Visuals1. Visuals must be directly relevant to the textual and audio content.2. Redundancy between visuals and audio must be avoided. Words must
accompany visuals. If words are displayed, viewers must be given time to read it.
4. Visual displays must be simple.3. Visual displays should be big enough to be seen by the farthest pupil.5. Visual displays must be aesthetically presented to maintain good taste.
The attributes of a pedagogical drawing are that it should be
~simple without details ~meant for recognition only and not as art work ~quick to draw ~related to subject matter ~aid to illustrate as a communicative tool ~a visual symbol or a diagrammatic
