Eligibility requirements for exam and certification:

PCN Welding Inspector

Experience Training

Level 1 1 month * 20 hours

Level 2 12 months * 50 hours

Level 3 2 years experience as Welding Inspector Level 2 (or)

5 years experience having typical job responsibilities of a Welding Inspector Level 3

40 hours

* Relevant weld inspection, welding qualification, material inspection, welding process and etc…

Examination Content

PCN Welding

Inspector Examination Content Time

Level 1

Theory exam:

30 multiple choice questions 45 minutes

Practical Exam:

Assessment of Fit-up joint as per WPS 30 minutes

Assessment of completed fillet weld 1 hour

Assessment of completed plate groove weld 1 hour

Level 2

Theory exam:

30 multiple choice questions 45 minutes

4 narrative questions 1.5 hours

Practical Exam:

Assessment of joint preparation / Fit-up joint as per WPS 30 minutes

Assessment of completed plate groove weld 1 hour

Assessment of completed fillet weld 1 hour

Assessment of completed pipe groove weld 1.5 hour

Review and report macroscopic test and bend test or fillet fracture test specimen

30 minutes

Level 3

Candidates not holding valid BINDT recognised Weld Inspector certification will be required to successfully complete the Weld Inspection Level 2 examination prior to attempting the examination for Weld Inspection Level 3.

Theory exam:

30 multiple choice questions (questions from NDT Level 2 standard)

1 hour

4 narrative questions 1.5 hours

Practical Exam:

Scrutinise and comment on three inspection related documents

1 hour

Inspection of 2 weld failure samples 1 hour

Understanding of welding fabrication drawing symbols 1 hour

Interpretation of six radiographs of welds. 1.5 hour
