An Interim Pastor Search Committee has been named. According to our by-laws, this committee consists of the three deacon officers, plus two active deacons appointed by the officers. Those on the Interim Pastor Search Committee are: Sally Higgins, Dustin Thomas, Jane Ferguson, Jason Hughes and Donald Crowe. This month, the committee will begin the discernment process of calling an Interim Pastor. Also this month, we will begin the process of electing a Pastor Search Committee. This is a longer process and will begin with the Deacon Chair, Personnel Committee Chair and at least three members-at-large from the deacon body and other church leadership. This committee will serve as an ad-hoc Pastor Search Nominating Committee. There will be a 30-day window to submit candidates for the Pastor Search Committee from January 12 through February 10. Forms for submitting a candidate for con- sideration will be made available by the church office. Nominating a wor- thy individual will require their signature, as testimony of their willingness to serve. Members may also nominate themselves. The nomination forms will be collected and reviewed by the ad-hoc committee. After prayerful consideration by the ad-hoc committee, a minimum of nine and a maxi- mum of 12 candidates will be submitted for a church-wide vote. These names will be published for two weeks prior to the church-wide vote. On the appointed Sunday, the church membership shall vote by secret ballot for six candidates. The six receiving the highest number of votes as set forth by the by-laws “Procedure for Voting” will serve as the Pastor Search Committee, along with the Deacon Chair serving as ex-officio member. It’s the �me of year that New Year Resolu- �ons are made and a new start begins. One of my New Year’s Resolu�ons this year is to grow more in my rela�onship with Jesus Christ. I hope that is one of your goals as well. The Bible has many things to say about new beginnings, but the first verse that comes to mind is Lamenta�ons 3:22-23 which says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” May you see the Lord’s mercies and faithfulness every morning in 2020! Dear Church Family, What joy it has been for Cele and I to share our second Advent season with you, experi-encing the wonder and mystery of the incarna� on. These lyrics from a song our Sanctu-ary Choir sang on the Christmas concert captures well my thoughts:
Where shepherds lately knelt and kept the angel’s word, I come in half-belief, a pilgrim strangely sti rred; But there is room and welcome there for me, But there is room and welcome there for me.
I am grateful to be a part of a church family that seeks to extend Christ’s welcome. There is room for all. Our choir/orchestra concert welcomed many guests to our sanctu-ary, providing a glimpse of the good ministries of our church. I am grateful to Bridget Hilliard and her team for the deligh� ul presenta� on of Guess Who’s Coming to Bethlehem. Our children’s Christmas musical involved 22 children who gave us the ani-mals’ Christmas Eve perspec� ve. Thank you, church, for your support of these events.
