AUGUSTINE, Larchmont, New York APRIL 21, 2019 EASTER SUNDAY NOTE FROM THE PASTOR: Let no one mourn that he has fallen again and again; for forgiveness has risen from the grave.Easter sermon of St. John Chrysostom Pastors Ne EASTER SUNDAY EVENING PRAYER Lent itself ends on the evening of Holy Thursday (the vigil of Good Friday). The Church then begins the Triduum, the most sacred three days of the year. Everything rests on the Triduum. All of the other feast days in the year are based on the mysteries that are celebrat- ed during the Triduum. The Triduum ends with evening prayer on Easter Sunday night, as dusk begins to fall. Also known as vespers, even- ing prayer is part of the Liturgy of the Hours. Today few parishes actually celebrate vespers on Easter Sunday evening. The reason for this is a praccal one: the parish ministers (especially the ministers of music) are usually exhausted aſter a long Easter Vigil and the Masses on Easter morning. AN EASTER THOUGHT Easter isnt just a feast. Its a whole season. Its a 50-day season to celebrate something that can brighten my darkest day. What is that something? Get ready for this: to place myself every day in Gods hands. Its not hard to do. Gods embrace always enfolds me despite my failures along the way. Then when I die, I connue to place myself in the hands of God, and God brings me through death. Its true. Jesus showed the way. Happy Easter! EASTER SUNDAY

NOTE FROM THE PASTOR:

“Let no one mourn that he has fallen again and again; for forgiveness has risen from the grave.“ Easter sermon of St. John Chrysostom

Pastor’s Note

EASTER SUNDAY EVENING PRAYER Lent itself ends on the evening of Holy Thursday (the vigil of Good Friday). The Church then begins the Triduum, the most sacred three days of the year. Everything rests on the Triduum. All of the other feast days in the year are based on the mysteries that are celebrat-ed during the Triduum. The Triduum ends with evening prayer on Easter Sunday night, as dusk begins to fall. Also known as vespers, even-ing prayer is part of the Liturgy of the Hours. Today few parishes actually celebrate vespers on Easter Sunday evening. The reason for this is a practical one: the parish ministers (especially the ministers of music) are usually exhausted after a long Easter Vigil and the Masses on Easter morning.

AN EASTER THOUGHT Easter isn’t just a feast. It’s a whole season. It’s a 50-day season to celebrate something that can brighten my darkest day. What is that something? Get ready for this: to place myself every day in God’s hands. It’s not hard to do. God’s embrace always enfolds me despite my failures along the way. Then when I die, I continue to place myself in the hands of God, and God brings me through death. It’s true. Jesus showed the way. Happy Easter!

Call to Discipleship: “God, the all powerful Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, has given us a new birth by water and the Holy Spirit, and forgiven all our sins.” From the Renewal of Baptismal Promises on Easter Sunday.

St. Augustine 125th Anniversary Campaign 1892—2017 RENEW + REBUILD

We are happy to report the tremendous progress made over the last year with our 125th Anniversary Campaign (RENEW + REBUILD). Pledges for $2,168,731.00 were received, exceeding our $2 million Campaign Goal. As of year end $1,281,996.00 of Campaign pledges were paid. Of this amount, $110,000.00 was used to meet our 2018 Cardinal’s Ap-peal Goal and $263,030.00 was used to support the education of children across the archdiocese and to care for elderly clergy and religious. The balance, $908,966.00, was placed in our Parish Campaign Account to be used for the stated parish purposes of our Campaign. In the future, 100% of all pledge payments will be for parish purposes and placed in the Parish Campaign Account. The 2019 Cardinal’s Appeal is separate from the RENEW + REBUILD Campaign and no further Campaign funds will be used for archdiocesan purposes. To date, over $400,000.00 of Campaign Account funds have been used by the parish. Because of your generosity we have been able to preserve and enhance the beauty of our 90 year old Church. The Church has been repainted and new LED lighting added, two additional stained glass windows have been refurbished and a new handicap accessible restroom has been added in the vestibule. In addition, in April, a more appropriate confessional for the celebration of the Lord’s reconciliation and forgiveness was installed in the front of the Church near the Sacred Heart altar. Funds have been provided for outreach purposes as well as to our Parish Facilities Maintenance Fund for special projects. In addition, preliminary work has begun on this summer’s projects to update the Religious Education office, the Kenny Hall Kitchen and the St. Augustine Gym. The heritage of our parish has been one of remarkable solidarity and community. Being part of our Campaign, is a sign of your solidarity and participation in the life of the parish.

Thank you for your support and generosity. Msgr. Thomas R. Kelly , Pastor

EASTER SEASON SMALL GROUP STUDY Join us for three sessions of Easter: Season of Life & Fire. This great celebration of Jesus’ death and resurrec-tion, the most important of the Christian calendar, is celebrated for 50 days. By taking this time to better under-

stand the overall mystery of our salvation in Jesus Christ, form his incarnation and birth through his sending of the Sprit to us, you will be more fully able to live the mystery of Christ in your own life. (Email [email protected] to let us know what your availability is: we will build a session around your schedule.)

THE CARDINAL’S ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP APPEAL

Last year, our parish participated in the Renew + Re-build Campaign which helped our parish raise funds for necessary capital needs. As you may know, the Cardi-nal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal was a part of that cam-paign for one year. Your participation in the 2019 Cardinal’s Annual Stew-ardship Appeal helps sustain a variety of programs that reach out to more than 2.8 million Catholics in our arch-diocese. The majority of the funds this year will now go directly back to parishes to ensure our parishes can keep providing a faith home to tens of thousands of Catholics. So far $57,900.00 has been pledged by 89 Families. To learn more and to hear from those directly impacted by the Appeal, go to www.cardinalsappeal.org. The goal for St. Augustine for 2019 is $134,500. Please prayerfully consider your participation.

Thank you for your generosity and support.

FOOD PANTRY Thank you to all who continue to support the Food Pantry. The need continues to grow

for families in need in our area. Your donation of food brings much needed nourishment. If each family brought even one non-perishable item to church each week and let your kids place it in the food baskets, it would make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors. Mother Theresa’s has changed their request and are asking especially for Rice & Pasta for their Soup Kitch-en. They have scaled back on their pantry. Hope Pantry requests non-perishable items in cans and plastic containers. Please no glass. Cereals and soups are especially needed. Thank You for your gen-erosity.

All God’s Blessings on this Easter Sunday.
