community.Withthehelpofengineeringorganizationsandfromotherkindprofessionals

likeyourselves,wehavegrownintoagroupofmotivatedundergraduateandgraduate

studentswhichaspiretoassistinthestrengtheningofthelargerLatino,Hispanicand

Minoritycommunities.Westriveonthemissionofempoweringourmemberstorealize

theirfullestpotentialandimpacttheworldthroughSTEMAwareness,Access,Supportand

Development.Weprideourselvesinhelpingtobuildastrongworkforceofindependent

innovators,scientists,mathematiciansandengineerswhomayonedayleadour

communities.

Ourorganization,althoughstillontheprocessofgrowthandbalance,continuously

strivestobecomelargermorefar-reachingorganizationwhichnotonlypromotes

professionaladvancement,butfocusesonacademic,chapter,leadershipandoutreach

developments.Awell-roundedstudentintheseareaswillmakehimastrongercandidate

tograduatesuccessfullyandwithinaSHPEfamily.Throughspecificprogramingand

activitiessuchasdiversityinengineeringevents,networkingbanquets,corporate

representativemeetings,resumebuildingworkshopsandacademictutoringprogramswe

buildrelationshipswithinourchapterwhichoftenleadtooverallintellectualinterpersonal

growth.

Inthispartnershipproposal,youwillfindnotjustwhatwehavedoneandare

planningtodo,butanopportunitytohelpusachieveevenmorethanthat.Withyour

supportwehopetobeabletolifttheentirecommunityupandtransformitintoamore

unifiedandeducatedone,whichwillaffordeveryonetheopportunitytofulfilltheir


potential.Ourorganizationwouldliketoagainthankyouforyourinterestinbecoming

partofthelargereffortthatourstudentorganizationisgearedtowards.Wewillcontinue

WhatisSHPE?TheSocietyofHispanicProfessionalEngineers,Inc.isanon-profitnation-wide

organizationdedicatedtoincreasingtheparticipationofcollegestudentsinthefieldsof

science,technology,engineering,andmath(STEM).TheNationalorganizationis

composedofindividualchaptersallthroughoutthenation,fromHighSchoolto

ProfessionalLevels,whichinvestincreatingaricherandmorediverseprofessional

environmentforallunderrepresentedminoritiesinSTEMfields.Inourchapterweutilize

theprogrammingoftheNationalchaptertodeveloptheleadershipskillsofourmembers.

LocalMembershiplastyear,wehavebecomeakeycomponentinthegrowthoftheLatino

studentbodyatCWRUinthelastcoupleofyears,shownintherecord-breakingincoming

Classof2020ofLatino/Hispanicstudents.Weareveryproudofourmembership,andthe

studentswhichbecomeinvolvedarealwaysupforachallenge,astheyaredrivenand

hardworking.

Throughyourinvolvementandparticipation,youwillbegiventheopportunitytoaccess

ourlocalchapterofabout30activeLocalandNationalmembersandbeabletomarket

yourcompanytonotjustadiversegroupofstudentsinmanySTEMfields,buttothe

greaternationalandinternationalaudienceswereachinourtravels.

WealsooftenteamupwithotherorganizationsintheCWRUcampus,likeNSBE(National

SocietyofBlackEngineers),WISER(WomeninScienceandEngineering),andtheCase


EngineersCouncil(CEC).Therefore,yourSponsorship,Collaboration,andCareerSupport

hasaneffectonatleast100studentsfromtheundergraduateandgraduatelevels.

Wealsoacknowledgethatmanymembersofthecommunitywhoarenotpartofthe

STEMfieldsalsorequireassistanceandsupport.Thatiswhynotonlydoweholdsocial

andprofessionaleventsforourstudents,faculty,andstaff,butwealsoreachouttothe

goal,istonotjustbuildupthemembersofouruniversityintotheprofessionalstheywant

andithasbeenahiteverytime.Withthisbi-annualevent,webookagreatLatinDJ,a

invitetheentireuniversity.Ourgoalistocreateasafe-environmentforourstudentsand

memberstohavefunwhileallowingthemtoexperienceatraditionalclub-like

environment.ThiseventservesasourMarketingeventforeachsemester,wheremainly

firstyearstudentsgetintouchwithLaAlianzaandSHPEinafunandcasualway.

4. GalaLatina** 10/1/2016

OurfirsteverGalaLatinawasheldlastyearduringHispanicHeritageMonth.We

partneredwithofficesandorganizationson-campus,suchasLaAlianza,CWRUCareer

CenterandtheOfficeofMulticulturalAffairs.Thiseventisanightofnetworkinganda

celebrationoftheHispanicculture.Itisanopportunityforourmemberstointeractwith

Graduatestudents,ProfessionalsfromtheClevelandarea,FacultyandStafffromCWRU

andotherEntrepreneursandStudentsfromtheNorthernOhioRegion.Withthiseventwe

hopetoshowcaseourstudentbodyandthesuccessesoftheLatinocommunity,

demonstratingitsstrengthandgrowth.Ourguestswillhaveaninformative,familial,and

uniquedinnerwithstudentsthatcareabouttheircommunity,theirprofessional

developmentandtheirheritage.

5. DiversityinEngineeringNetworkingSocial10/07/2016***

Generally,thiseventhappensduringtheUniversity’sDiversityWeekend,where

underrepresentedgroupshavetheopportunitytoreceivesubstantialsupportand


recognition.SHPEwillworktohaveasuccessfulnetworkingsocialwheremembersfrom

localorganizationssuchasNSBE,WISERandSWEcaninteractandmeeteachother.Thisis

atimewhereprospectivestudentsandfellowmembersofthecommunitycanshare

experiences,whileatthesametimepracticetheirnetworkingandelevatorpitchskills

withprofessionalsandotherrepresentatives.

6. SHPENationalConference 11/02/2016to11/06/2016

TheSHPEConferenceisthemajoreventfortheSocietyofHispanicProfessionalEngineers,

Inc.andisoneofthelargesttechnical,careerandSTEMconferenceintheUnitedStates.It

isalsothelargestLatino/HispanicSTEMconferenceinthecountrywhereeachyearclose

to5,000STEMprofessionalsandstudentsgathertogetherandenjoythesharingof

knowledgeandexperiences.Theconferenceisanopportunityforengineeringcompanies

andcorporationstorecruittoptalentfromSHPEmembership.Lastyearwetook18

studentstotheconference,wherealmost30%gotadirectAcademic/Careerofferor

contactfromtheconference.Itprovideseducational,technicalandcareeropportunities

forprofessionalsandstudentsinSTEM.

7. SHPERegionalConference April2017

TheRegionalLeadershipDevelopmentConference(RLDC)inRegion6wasdevelopedto

fosteranenvironmenttoaccelerateandenhanceourmembers’leadership,management

andtechnicalskills.ItisaplacewhereSHPEundergraduateandgraduatestudentscan

networkwithprofessionalsandcompaniesinterestedinthemember’scareer

development.ItishostedannuallyinsevenregionsacrosstheUnitedStatesbetweenthe

monthsofFebruaryandApril.RLDCinRegion6willimproveleadershipskillsofthe

upcomingnewchapterboardandgeneralbodymembers,helpingstrengthenthestudent

andprofessionalchaptersineachregion.

8. StudyTablesProgram Recurring(Everyotherweek)

AnewprogramwhichfocusesontheAcademicDevelopmentpillar,specificallytargeted

toourFreshmanmembers.Adjustingtocollegecanbechallenging,speciallytominority

students.Thepurposeoftheseprogramistodevelopedaflexiblementorshipwithinour


chapter.WewillconnectFreshmenandUpperclassmenstudentsintutoringsessionon

theweekends.Thiswillmakesureincomingandrecurrentstudentsstayconnectedand

withintheacademiccompetitiveenvironmentofCaseWesternReserve.
