The Hydrologic cycle
This is also called the water cycle It is the recycling of the water between
the oceans, land and atmosphere
There are 6 main parts to the water or hydrologic cycle.

Part of the Hydrologic cycle
Solar Radiation- the sun, the source of energy need for the water cycle
Condensation –is the process by which water transitions from a gas (or vapor) phase into a liquid phase ( cloud)
Precipitation- returns water to the Earth in the form of snow, rain, sleet, hail
Evaporation- returns water to the atmosphere in the form a gas
Transpiration- is the evaporation of water from vegetation Water storage- place on the earth that water is stored
until it is re-evaporated into the atmosphere (lakes, oceans, ice caps)
Infiltration- is water soaking into the ground Runoff- water flowing along the surface of the earth

More hydrologic cycle
The Earth has a LIMITED supply of water Once we harm the water bad enough
we are not able to use it. Approximately 70-75% of the Earth is covered
with water ( salt). The amount of water that seeps into the ground
or runs-along the surface is influenced by:• Climate• Slope• Soil type• Rock type• Vegetation• Land use and degree of saturation
![Page 6: Part I The hydrologic cycle. This is also called the water cycle It is the recycling of the water between the oceans, land and atmosphere There.](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022080916/56649e5e5503460f94b58036/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Why does run-off occur?
Run- off occurs when:• The ground is
saturated• The slope is too
great• It is to cold , the
ground if frozen• When there has
been a lot of rain

Ground water
Ground water is water that is found below the ground
Ground water is filtered as it moved through the rock and soil.

Groundwater Zones
Zone of Aeration -upper soil layers that hold both air and water..
Zone of saturation- layer of soil below the water table where the ground is saturated with water
Water table- The level below which the ground is saturated with water.
Impermeable layer- a layer of solid material, such as rock or clay, which does not allow water to pass through..-

Water cycle project
Choose either the picture of the water cycle or the groundwater zone
On pasteboard draw a picture of what you have chosen.
Label and define each of the important parts
