Winches, winders & hoists

Winches & Winders manufactures the Fulton range of windersfor use mainly in the southern African mining industry.

Fulton winders are designed to the highest quality standardsand are built to last (see name plate at right). Today they con-tinue with the heritage entrenched nearly eighty years ago byJohn Kerr Fulton.

We design and install new winches , winders & hoists to ourcustomers’ special requirements and specifications.

The Fulton reputation for long lifeand high reliability is maintainedfrom job inception to final com-missioning and hand-over.

We hold full technical details, re-cords and drawings for all Fultonwinders in the market, and supplya full range of spares as well asupgrading and refurbishing ofexisting winders.

Our refurbishing capacity is alsooffered on all other makes ofwinders.

All projects are completed using the latest stateof the art winder technology, full CAD and FiniteElement Analysis capability in house.

Design & manufacturing capability—Winders

We design and manufacture a wide range of single or double drum custom designed winders up to750kW capacity. Designs take into account such factors as loads, speeds, working environments,duty requirements, haulage materials and safety requirements.

Duties range from stage winding to man, rock, and material hoisting, in vertical and incline shafts andin other construction applications.

Small Winches:Our single drum hoists, type 25kN, 34kN, 48kN and 1200/60kN, are named for maximum rope pull.

Large Winders:Our design and engineering facility is capable of handling a full range of single, double and four drummachines of up to 4 metres diameter with installed power of up to 1900kW per winder.

In response to market demand, we have designed an advanced single drum stage winder to be usedin multiples of two for a stage mass of up to 200 tonnes and a rope diameter of up to 60mm.

These have been manufactured for Eurochem’s potash mine near Volgograd, Russia.

For the Eurochem project, wedesigned and manufactured a3600mm diameter DoubleDrum Kibble winder with discbraking system. Drum ma-chining is shown at right.

Winders are safety critical. Brakes are designed to fail to a safe condition in the event of loss ofpower. Fulton winder braking systems are designed to suit the application, and include the most upto date hydraulically released calliper and disc braking systems.

We are presently supplying nine large winders, all with disc braking systems, to a variety of custom-ers. Below is a photo taken during assembly of nine disc braking systems, power packs & accumula-tors assembled in our factory.

We include very sophisticated speed and deceleration devices such as E.S.C.O.R.T.

We also supply a range of gear-boxes. We are the only manu-facturer of winder gearboxes inthe southern hemisphere.
