attendance.
Have arrived at the elementary
We are very happy to have new teachers that have joined our staff this year! We welcome them with open arms to our Brave family. They have brought fresh exciting ideas and new spunk to
our school building. We are excited to introduce them below:
Andrea Anderson—Andrea teaches 5th grade this year. She is a veteran teacher who has previously taught at North Shore Plaza and South Prairie schools. She is a
loving and tender -hearted teacher. Her main goal is to have her stu- dents love learn- ing and achieving. We are blessed to have Andrea here!
Andrew Zarembinski—Andy is a go-getter and ready to tackle any job! He is an enthu- siastic teacher who is excited each and every day to be at our school. Not only is he one of our 5th grade teachers, but also our Athletic Director, Cross Country coach, and Assistant Track coach. We appreciate all Andy does for our district.
Kendra Meyer—Kendra is our Kindergarten superhero teacher. She brought her race car to school to get the students excited about attendance. She is bright and bubbly and al- ways smiling. We are lucky to have Kendra on our staff.
Sasha Snow—Sasha comes to us from Montana. She is a brand new teacher and ready to learn and grow. She wants only the best for her students and is dedicated to providing that. Sasha is kind and caring. She also has a true desire to be the best teacher she can be. Welcome to our school Sasha!

ELEMENTARY SPOTLIGHT Daily Attendance
Attendance is very important for our students. We have start-
ed a new initiative focused on daily attendance and making
sure that we are here as much as possible. Outside our main
office we have posters that are changed each day based on our
daily numbers. Please remember that our NDDPI goal is
to have 94% attendance each and every day. Every mi-
nute matters when our children are learning. Please also re-
member that we have changed our attendance policy. We are
now doing attendance based on 1/4’s. For example: If your
child needs to go to an appointment at 3:00 and they need to
leave at 2:00, they will only miss 1/4 of the day instead of a
half a day. We are trying to work with families as much as
possible to help your child stay at school. Let Mrs. Wheeling
or Miss. Kim know if you have any questions.
Fall Assessments
We have started our fall assessment schedule. We are working on completing all beginning of the year as- sessments. With these scores, we will determine what your child needs to focus on in order to raise their level of
understanding, while making academic improvements. We are currently using our NWEA assessments, along with our SFA and iReady programs to determine the needs for each child.
Your child’s teacher will be reviewing their individual scores at Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday September 30, 2021 from 3:30pm—9:30pm. We will be sending home more information about those confer- ences shortly. We would like to have every child represented by a family member attending conferences. These
are important meetings and we must work as a team to provide the best learning experience for your child.
Principal Corner—Mrs. Wheeling I really want to thank everyone for the kind welcome to Parshall Elementary. I am so happy to be here and because I know so many of you already, I feel like I am coming home. We have many things planned for making improve- ments at the school. I pledge to give each student and family a great learning environment and a welcoming atmosphere. Please do not hesitate to stop by with any questions, concerns, or ideas for making more improvements at our school. I believe in teamwork. I also believe in giving your absolute best each and every day. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to spend my days with your children.

Middle School Spotlight
My name is Erica McRae, and I teach Middle School English. We are excited to have a brand new English curriculum this year! Students have both an online platform as well as a textbook. We are also having weekly spelling tests with words being sent home every Monday. Please feel free to reach out to me any time!
Hello! My name is Leslie Odermann, and I’ve been teaching for 32 years. I am
married and have four children, three of whom have graduated from PHS and one
who is currently a junior in high school. This year I am teaching math to the
classes of 2026-2028. Prior to this year, I was the Title I math teacher at Parshall Elementary and I also taught middle school math in NewTown. I have some of my
former student’s children in my classroom! This year we are working to build a classroom of thinkers. I want my students to
be able to think about problem solving and to make sure that their answers make
sense. One of the first problem solving tasks assigned to the students was to
figure out how many squares there are on a chessboard. At first, many of the
cooperative groups found 64 or 65 squares. After some probing questions from
me, some groups found over 200 squares! We have a quote by Fred DeVito in our classroom; ”If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.” My students know
that it’s ok to make mistakes, because by making those mistakes, they will grow! I look forward to spending my last year of teaching in the same building as my
son, working with a wonderful staff and teaching awesome students!
Mrs. Sowagen: Hello my name is Mrs. Sowagen. I have been teaching at the Parshall School District for 4 years. I am adventurous and love to travel. I love to eat pizza and hang out with my family while dancing to “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran . My love for dogs and lizards is one of a kind. Ask me the names of my pets! I am really excited for the school year and to have students explore science :)

Mary Quillin, Special Education teacher. This is my 5th year at PHS. 2 1/2 years as a para in special education. It will be 2 years in January as a certified teacher. Live south of Parshall on a little hobby farm. Married to Matt for 21 years and has 3 teenagers. LOVE being a Brave. It's never boring and it's some of the most meaningful work I've ever done. I love being able to come alongside our students when they need assistance or may struggle to make sure they feel and KNOW they are capable, smart, and can achieve their goals. I work with an incredible team of paraprofessionals, who are just as committed to your student. Please continue to support your student at home with their work and get here on time. We can't do much if they aren't here. We are deeply committed to your student and so proud of them. :)

Mrs. Crystal Hayden
Hello Parshall! I hope everyone was able to enjoy their summer break. I am excited to start my second school year as the 6th-12th grade School Counselor! It's been so wonderful to see students back in the building again! Summer went by way too fast but I am looking forward to making this year even better. In July, I had the opportunity to at- tend the ND Indian Education Summit at the Capitol for a couple of days. I was able to connect with so many great speakers and collaborated with many to bring programming ideas together. I am eager to share my experiences and ideas for this school year. This month, in addition to schedule changes and stepping into classrooms for Meet the Counselor Intro's, I will be meeting individually with the senior class to discuss their goals for this year and after high school so that I can help them navigate their path and graduate prepared. It is my personal goal to make sure every Parshall senior gradu- ates and that our students are graduating Choice Ready with the essential skills to be successful for whatever path they choose. Students are able to demonstrate being Choice Ready in 3 domains: Post-Secondary Ready, Workforce Ready, and Military Ready. Let's make 2021-2022 a remarkable school year!!! #TogetherStrongerBraver
