Thank you to all who celebrated Catholic Schools Week with us. Please continue to pray for our Students and their families, our alumni and all the future students and prospective parents. If you went to any Catholic School any time in the last 50 years, you helped create the success of Catholic Schools, so thank you again for your financial support, your time, your talents and your prayer.

The New Year is a perfect time to reflect on and explore the ways we provide for the needs of our Christ the King family. As believers in Christ, we know that all we have and all we are come from God. In gratitude for everything and as a reminder of the goodness of God, we return some part of this "everything" to the Lord as an offering. "What return can I make to the Lord for all His goodness to me?" (Psalm 116) This desire to make a return to the Lord is a common Christian attitude, the attitude of one who is aware of the

great grace that has been given to us in Christ. "In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." (Colossians 2:3) Is it possible to give to the needs of the Church without this awareness? Yes. We know that we are always capable of just "going through the motions", that we can give of our stuff without giving of ourselves. But is it possible to be aware of all God's goodness to me and hold back my offering? No. A true awareness of God's blessings makes me want to imitate God in His goodness. This grateful awareness makes me attentive to the needs of those around me. Jesus tells those He has healed and freed in the Gospels to "go and do likewise", to continue His work in the world. My friends, we need each and every one of you to continue the mission and the great works the Lord is doing here at Christ the King. Look at our bulletin or browse our website to see all the great things we do to build up the Body of Christ, the Church, here in Mesa. Let us reflect on what we are doing to help further this mission. As part of your commitment to follow Christ, I ask you to prayerfully discern your tithe, your grateful offering to the Lord. I recently learned about the four P's of tithing, and I think they will be helpful for you as you reflect on this topic that with all the demands on our time and our wallet, can sometimes seem overwhelming. 1) Prayer: This is the first step, because it is what helps us to give with awareness, not just to go through the

motions. What return can I make to the Lord for His goodness to me? 2) Planned: The first time we think about giving to the needs of the Church should not be when the basket is in

the row ahead of us! Let's plan ahead and come prepared to Mass, or even prepared for the months and the year ahead. What will my expenses be? What takes up most of my time or most of my money? What "room" can I make so that I can be more generous to the Parish and to the larger Church?

3) Progressive: Tithe literally means "ten percent", which can be very overwhelming. The important thing is to start somewhere, and to see that I can live with a little sacrifice. Over time, I can ask myself, Can I give a bit more? Can I increase the time I spend in prayer or in volunteering? Can I sacrifice one more meal out this week so as to give a little more?

4) Percentage: This is related to the previous two, planned and progressive. I look at my expenses for the month, or at my upcoming schedule. It can be an eye opening experience. I spend what percentage on x, y, or z each month??!! I spend that many hours doing x, y, or z (usually watching TV)??!! And then, we write into that plan what percentage we are going to give to God. We start with what is reasonable right now and are open to a gradual increase.

It is not always easy to talk about these things. It is not always easy to practice these things. But the Church asks us to practice the spiritual discipline of giving to the needs of the Church, to educate us to the reality that everything we have and are comes from God. Let's end on a practical note that can help us to live this discipline better: An easy way to ensure your financial commitment occurs whether you attend weekly Mass and/or travel all or part of the summer months is through electronic automatic checking account withdrawal (ACH). Please prayerfully consider ACH as a part of your new year’s resolution to be a more intentional follower of Jesus Christ. The form is included for your convenience. Please include a voided check and return the form to the Parish Office. For electronic or credit card tithing, please go to www.ctk-catholic.org/give. As we enter the second month of 2015, let us use the 4 P’s and make an offering to God from whom all blessings flow, "for where your treasure is, there also will be your heart." (Matt. 6:21) In Christ, Pastor

2015 Charity and Development Appeal “Whenever our eyes are open to acknowledge the other, we grow in the light of faith and knowledge of God. Let us try a little harder to take the first step and to become involved.” –Pope Francis

As we look forward to the 2015 CDA Launch Weekend on February 7 & 8, we wish to thank the parishioners at Christ the King for last year's outstanding participation in the Charity and

The CDA plays an important role in supporting and nurturing the faith of all those in our Diocese. The CDA is love and faith in action. The Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I be-

lieve in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all

things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered

death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds

from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of

sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Water You turned into wine, Opened the eyes of the blind. There's no one like You, none like You. Into the darkness You shine, Out of the ashes we rise; There's no one like You, none like You. Our God is greater, Our God is stronger; God You are higher than any other. Our God is healer, Awesome in power, our God, our God And if our God is for us then who could ever stop us, And if our God is with us then what could stand against? And if our God is for us then who could ever stop us, And if our God is with us then what could stand against? Then what could stand against?

Be with me, Lord,

Be with me, my Lord. When I'm in trouble and I don't know where to go,

Be with me, Lord.

When I'm blind, when I cannot see, When all life's troubles sweep over me.

When I'm in darkness, and all I see is me, be with me, Lord.

When I refuse to hear Your word. When I hear Your voice and do not follow.

When I'm in trouble and I don't know where to go, be with me, Lord.
